We spent a few days on the island and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Maria Carlota was marginal at best. The room was small, had no windows, and poor lighting; the "hot" water was lukewarm; the cleanliness was just passable; the wifi was spotty and slow; and the physical plant is in need of upgrading. There is no restaurant or pool, while the advertised garden was a strip about 4-feet wide of rocks and plants along the first floor. I would not stay there again, and would not recommend it unless cost was the only consideration.

I booked my first night as my "budget" room before transfering to a resort up the street and I wish I would have saved myself the extra $200 a night and just stood here the whole time. Hotel is centrally located to the downtown square, but quiet enough to be able to sleep at night. The rooms were cute and comfortable with an amazing coffee shop downstairs. If you don't stay here, at least go to the coffee shop. There are two rooms with patios that have hammocks and a view. Only the room above the coffee shop has the view, the other is blocked by a big white building that sits across the street. The front desk guy was nice, but had very little smiles to share.
