The Angel Apartments

It was a terrible experience. Not clear you have to deal with another company apart from H.com to confirm booking, check-in, check-out, etc. They bombard you with emails, messages, instructions... Never staying at an apartment-hotel was so complicated. On top of that, the unexpected fees for late check-in and cleaning are rather annoying, plus a deposit that takes ages to be paid back. Dark, with no air flow and a very noisy place, not staying there again.

I was asked to pay £79 cleaning fee upon arrival (for one nights stay) which absolutely was not made clear when I booked originally. Once I had paid that I was then asked for a £!50 deposit which was refundable as long as I didn't break anything. Again not advised of this when I booked. I then had to chase to have this returned. When I arrived I was told my room wasn't ready. I was asked if I would shower in a room that was ready then move my belongings in to the room I would be staying in. Room was clean and spacious. Location was good.

For starters, this is not a hotel. This seems to be a couple renting out a small apartment that they own. The facilities in the apartment were of a decent standard. Nice kitchen and a comfy bed. The bathroom was of an acceptable standard and the location was convenient. The main issues with the apartment that I have, are the way it is being run. Charging "tenants" £60 for a cleaning fee regardless of stay is a ridiculous way of operating.in my opinion. Had I have seen the cleaning fee was payable regardless of length of stay, there is absolutely no way I would have booked it. Because of this I spent over £180 on a single nights stay in an apartment that could not have been worth more that £100 (based solely on the location). Furthermore as per the communication with the landlord I waited for him outside a local pub, as requested at 4pm. It was freezing cold and raining and we had to wait there for 20 minutes before a lady eventually turned up. I sent the phone number I was told to contact 2 text messages, and tried to call them during that time and was ignored on all three occasions. If, like me, you arrive in the area before 1pm, there is no chance you will be able to check in early. Nor can you leave any luggage in the apartment, as I was told it was "impossible to do so". I was instructed that there is a luggage storage shop near by, where we had to pay to leave our possessions for 6 hours. Exchanges with the management left a bitter taste with this "hotel".

Apartment was spacious, modern, clean. A few things didn't work, but overall very nice. We will book again. It is proximate to Angel Underground, as well as King's Cross. Many bus lines pass nearby. Reasonably close to central London activities. We have a friend in Islington and always stay near there, so this was a good location. Immediate street is shabby, but surrounding area is OK overall.

Well outfitted, comfortable bed, but no AC. No usually a problem, but it was quite warm when I was visiting and not the most comfortable. Shower head was hand held only and was broken so impossible to take a proper shower.
