Merchants House Hotel

Really helpful staff. Brilliant location just off the main town square in old town. Lovely room - nice size and good amenities like a full length mirror. Bathroom was bright and had a roll top pedestal bath ... not such a good thing for showering your hair as water goes all over the floor. Really the only snag to our whole visit. Great breakfast in a vaulted cellar. This place has oodles of character.

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Merchants House, the perfect location for us, central, just off the main square. From check in to check out, everything was great. would denifetly recomnend staying here!

Location-Right next to the main town square In the centre of the old Tallinn - so very easy to walk to all parts of old town, city walls, museums, churches etc. Nothing was more than 10 minutes walk away, but some streets steep, and uneven cobbles- so bring the right shoes! There’s no lift- so quite a few stairs if your on the top/ third floor. The areas UNESCO status means they have had to preserve old walls- so the rooms are all different shapes. Ours wasn’t particularly big. Despite High ceilings, an opening window and/ or air conditioning I still found it too warm at night. The central location means bars and restaurants are in your doorstep- but they are the ones that trade on the tourist market. Pay for the medieval ambience, or alk 5-10 mins out of the centre to see your food bills drop by 30%. Was area was very busy in the daytime, and quite noisy in the evenings. So- if you want convenience to all the sights, it’s great: character, a bit quirky, plenty of history and lovely staff. But if you want to avoid the crowded streets, and don’t mind a bland hotel room, then stay in the new town areas. I’d stay again( but my other half prefers a quieter area).

The hotel is located in heart of old town. Very helpful, kind staff. Breakfast is ok, nice that you can use the sauba upon booking by your own. Excellent location for Old town :) The wifi definitly should improved, in the room was not available at all, also not the best in the lounge. Towels could be better quality considering this is a 4* hotel. All together I had a nice time here, will stay the same place when returning to Tallin.

Merchants House is in a beautiful historic building in a great location, and it could be a truly special hotel. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing stay for a number of reasons. Our room was very dirty, and even after complaining to management some of the issues were not addressed (especially the moldy shower). The furnishings, carpet and linens in the room were quite shabby, worn out or stained. The bed was terrible - we woke up with aching backs each morning. And the staff was inconsistent at best, a few went above and beyond, but others were practically surly. All of these things might be overlooked, given the age and charm of the building, if the rooms were priced much more reasonably. We stayed in three other (expensive) cities on this trip, and this was by far the worst value for the money spent.
