Best Western Chula Vista/Otay Valley Hotel

It was supposed to be non-smoking but it smelt like cigarettes. I was going to use the microwave and then found someone else's chicken left in there. This obviously means the rooms aren't thoroughly cleaned.

After reading the reviews I was on the phone trying to cancel my stay. But it was non refundable so I kept it. The Place is NOT as bad as they say in the reviews. It’s not outdated or dirty . It’s well kept and clean. It does smell like dust. Our continental breakfast was in a to go bag.

Staff is aloof, manager is no better. Waited 2 hours to check in. No rooms available 5 min before 4 pm. Rooms are kept to bare minimum standards and supplies for toiletries/towels. Only 1 towel in a room booked for a week. Waited 4 hours for a fresh towels.

The stay was alright but I did have some issues with the room. One - when I checked in, there was only one set of towels in the room despite my booking saying two people would be there. When I called to request another towel, I had to wait 4 hours to get it. Also, the a/c unit in the room worked somewhat but the heat did not work at all which made for cold mornings since it was like 40 degrees in the morning. Housekeeping was kind of hit and miss due to COVID which I get but I have stayed at other hotels in SD during this time and my housekeeping requests were fulfilled with no issues. This wouldn’t be my first choice of stay next time I am in San Diego unless you are just doing an overnight stay or something but if you are there a longer duration (week or more) I would pick somewhere else.

Its difficult finding out how to pay

Had problems at check-in service blamed my card for declining when the machine just didn’t read it. Had a full week planned, so we were leaving early every day. First day there, we went to leave and our deadbolt wouldn’t retract and we couldn’t close our door. Went to the service window and told them about the problem and they immediately asked if we were checking out and kept insisting on it. 3 out of 7 days our room wasn’t cleaned (trash hadn’t been taken, sheets not changed, bed not made etc...) accidentally booked a night short, they didn’t call to ask if we wanted to rebook. Just charged my card again. Didn’t let us know about that at all, and we didn’t find out until we went back our room and key cards wouldn’t work. Went to the service window to find out why and was told then that our booking had ended and our card was recharged and we needed new keys to get in.

Overall my experience was less the ideal. No remote for the tv in the room. Had to ask the front desk twice before getting one. The phone inside the room did not work. The hot water in the shower was luke warm. The freeway noise was unbelievable loud. The guests at the hotel were on the shady side. I would not stay there again.

Rude desk guy (or whoever it was) told us we couldn't "camp out" next to our vehicle waiting for roadside assistance after locking our keys in our vehicle after we checked out. No concern or customer service, no "Anything we can do to help?".. nope. Just pointed toward an area to wait to get off their property. I have never been so disappointed with a hotel staffer in all of my 47 years of fearless adventuring. This might be the closest accommodation to my daughter's new apartment after moving to Cali from out of state but I may stay farther away rather than stay here again. Would not recommend.

First of all when looking at the pictures of the hotel you’re like wow but then you step in and it’s bad the outside is terrible looking I was missing two light bulbs in my room and there wasn’t even a control remote for the tv, no didn’t even have a sign of the phone contact list on the room phone and the pillows looked old and worn as well as the blankets one of them even had a cigarette burn on it. I know it’s not an expensive hotel but atleast get new blankets and pillows and make sure there’s a remote for the tv to make us feel comfortable.

Why charging a 50 dollars deposit?, room was paid for in advanced. I understand a key deposit of 15 dollars max, but not 50 dollars of just a deposit. 50 dollars deposit will be returned in 5 business days
