The George at Wath - Ripon

The room I stayed in was rather small (one could say cosy), but all was gratified with great sevice by the hotel staff. All in all, hotel recommended.

At 1st may I say the staff were friendly, helpful and a credit to the place, especially as the owner and 'head chef' were away. However we expected better decor / fittings and a less plain menu based on the previous reviews. We were in room "Thistle" which was freezing on arrival. Remedied by switching on the radiator using the "dodgy theremostatic […] radiator valve". The shower was great but the surrounds and the bedroom furniture need some TLC. The menu was not as interesting as expected but maybe this is due to the fact that the pub changed hands in January (we had chosen the George partly based on it's 2012 food reviews but what we got was more like well prepared pub food) Lisateave

needed to find overnight accommodation near Ripon, found a gem, food excellent, staff friendly and most helpful, the chef even gave me the recipe and method for the dish I had, so I could replica it at home, all in all a very good stay and one we shall repeat.

The George, although in a very rural situation is a thoroughly modern establishment in every other way. The staff are welcoming and friendly, without being pushy, and make you feel comfortable and "at home" as soon as you walk in. There is obvious attention to detail in every area of the establishment, which is contemporary in style and spotless, and […] displays plenty of character/atmosphere. The bar is a friendly area to glance at the Yorkshire Post or have a good chat with locals in front of the log fire. Add to this a good choice of real ale,excellent wines and gourmet food...no wonder I would have happily stayed longer than 2 nights, and I have no hesitation in recommending The George. Lisateave

Village location, bustling pub, rooms appointed to a very high standard, top class evening dining in the restaurant and an outstandingly good Yorkshire Breakfast. Not sure if there was much vegetarian choice so check first if this appies to you. Service perhaps a tad slow in the retaurant, to be hyper-critical, where some noise wafted in from a bustiling […] bar in the evening...and there was a little mix up with the bill. But overall extremely pleasant helpful professional staff and highly recommended place to stay. Lisateave

The room was very clean and modern. The bedroom area was quite small. The staff were excellent. The food was amazing. Breakfast was also excellent quality (and the choice was very good). Good facilities for relaxation - we had a few games of pool!
