Ship & Trades - Chatham

Enjoyed our stay at Ship & Trades. The hotel is part of a pub restaurant and we spent a good evening in the hotel. The food, drinks and atmosphere were all good. The immediate area has a number of shopping and food options. We were able to visit tourist attractions in the area without fuss even though we stayed over a Bank Holiday. The only criticism […] is that the Ship & Trades shares the building with a store. Certainly in the room we stayed, the early morning deliveries to the shop disturbed our night. This may be less of a problem in other rooms. Lisateave

Loved the conversion from old dockside industrial unit to hotel with clever integration of old and new. Food was excellent and good value. Great service on check-in. Useful little co-op shop next door for sandwiches to take away and wine for the room. Loved it and hope to be back.

Interesting post-industrial decor from the old foundry buildings on the docs. Friendly staff. Bit noisy at night from outside plant humming, but not enough to stop us sleeping. Lots of interesting sights close by

Ship and Trades seems to be one of the best places to stay in Chatham. It is noisy though with alarms and lorries during the night not helped by the fire alam going off in the hotel in the early hours. Not the staff's fault but they could have communicated better with guests

Overal the Hotel / Inn was really nice and perfect for our requirements. The service and greeting was lovely both upon arrival and when leaving. The room was clean and decorated within the theme of the area, which i liked. The breakfast that was included was brilliant and gave us the perfect start the next day. The only issue we had and this wasnt […] totally the fault of the hotel but... because the Inn is located next to a Co-Op store, we were woken at 6.15am by loud banging and lift noises from the lorry delivering the bread. Maybe installing thicker glass may solve this issue. Other than that it was a nice place and i would recommend it but request a room with an even number so you are at the back of the hotel and away from the delivery area. Lisateave

The hotel is in Chatham Maritime and convenient for nearby offices, Medway towns, the university and connections to the rest of Kent. The rooms are well equipped although the light was not working in the bathroom. They are all on the first floor with the pub, a shop and the local chip shop underneath so it can be quite noisy. There is a charge for wifi […] connection. OK for a one night stay but I would not want to have an extended stay. Lisateave

I stayed here for one night with my wife while visiting family in Kent. This hotel is situated above a pub but we weren't disturbed by any noise from patrons. There is a small restaurant on the same level as the rooms which served us a cooked breakfast. Room was similar to the pictures on the hotel's website and were quite clean. There were some air […] conditioning units under our room window which would occasionally switch on and made quite a racket. We bring a white noise generator whenever we stay in hotels so the air conditioning units luckily didn't disturb us during the night. I think they would have done otherwise. The area is right on the docks and is a short bus ride from the station. It's easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, Dickens World, and a cinema. We opted for a Chinese Buffet in the evening which was nice but expensive. It was also the first Chinese restaurant that didn't have chopsticks to eat with. We even got funny looks when we asked for some. All-in-all was a pleasant stay and would stay again if I'm ever in the area. Lisateave

We spent 2 nights here 2 weeks or so before Christmas to get the "Dickens Experience". The hotel is modern and pleasantly situated next to the marina and a few shops and also nearby is a new outlet shopping centre. The room was fine and was made to give an air of being part of the former dockyard with some rough wood in the bathroom and a rope around […] the mirror. The premises are mainly used as a pub and a separate restaurant with the hotel as an add on. The restaurant is on the same floor as the hotel rooms and being the festive season season there was considerable noise until about 3 am on one night although quieter the second night. There was also a smell of smoke in the room which we feel emanated from outside where smokers tended to congregate. Lisateave

Top marks to the architect / designer. The fitting out of this converted warehouse has been very well done indeed! Character designed features, all very well done. Staff get top marks too; very friendly and very helpful. Regretfuly, disappointed that they have incorporated a Co-op store in one end of the building with it's associated early morning deliveries […] ( including Sundays ) waking everybody up at 6.00am! Bedroom & ensuite OK. Maniac shower head over a small bath; no cubical. Bedroom sparsely furnished; could have done with a bed-side cabinet on both sides of the bed. Cleaning OK, but need to check things like the lampshade; this was so thick with dust that I was able to write " Clean Me" and the date on the shade. Lisateave

There wer a number of niggles about the room. One light not working, only one bedside light, bath plug not attached to chain so nearly impossible to remove and bathroom blind cord broken so impossible to lift. The convienience of the hotel and the fact it was a pub that served food compensated for this. Generally fine, rather than super.

Since the refurbishment the place is stunning, not only the restaurant (with best ever gravy), but the rooms are beautiful as well, very spacious, comfy and everything you need. We're already planning of coming back soon.

We chose the hotel because it was near the Royal Dockyard Museum and The World of Dickens. It is also near the marina, a large shopping park and a restaurant area. Dinner and breakfast were good. The rooms were well sound-proofed. Staff were very helpful.

Meget positiv overraskelse. Vi skulle bruge en overnatning inden den sidste tur til Harwich (1½-2 timers kørsel fra færgen). Hotellet og pub'en er indrettet i en af bygningerne fra et nedlagt skibsværft, og det er virkelig gjort med stil. De gamle arbejdsbænke og er genbrugt som borde. Der er rå New York stemning med arbejdslamper og rør i loftet og […] beliggenheden er direkte ud til den gamle tørdøk. Gæster med havvand i blodet vil elske det. Menukortet er bøf og burger-orienteret, men meget veltillavet og med friske råvarer. Fint øludvalg og meget rimelige priser. På en lun sommeraften er terrassen ud til lystbådehavnen vidunderlig. Alt i alt - godt tilfreds. En enkelt kommentar skal der dog falde om de kompressorer der står lige nedenfor værelserne. De kører og støjer hele natten.Nu var det jo koldt og bæsende da vi var der så der var en del "naturlig" støj, men om sommeren må det være irriterende. Værelset var lille, men når man kun skal sove der, så er det helt fint.
