The Wallfoot Hotel & Restaurant - Carlisle

Need to get past first impression: building old, public spaces a little tired. Rooms still have old locks, and carpeting, but beds are comfortable, large enough to spread out, tea/coffee making, higher quality biscuits, new bathrooms, and quality toiletries. Although our room faced road with truck traffic, triple pane windows kept out noise, and no […] traffic after dark, so slept fine. Even if you're not staying here, stop for dinner. Marc is a trained chef. Although menu looks like the usual pub, his preparation was perfect, and far exceeded our expectations. Even though he didn't have help that night, he managed to serve a full dining room in a timely manner, and provided excellent personable service. Hats off to him, we really hope this venture succeeds for him. He deserves it. Lisateave

The new management have only been there a short time and obviously trying to turn things around, the hotel needs a lick of paint and tidying up however the room was very comfortable and clean and nothing was to much trouble, the staff were very friendly! This is an older hotel. The restaurant was ok but the room was not. The hotel is on a main highway and there was a lot of street noise. The sink leaked and the shower water temperature was uncontrolablle. Our room was (no a/c) stuffy and the bed was uncomfortable.

We only booked this hotel during ther early afternoon, deciding to take a 2 night break in the Carlisle area over the Bank Holiday weekend. We were not at all disappointed with the hotel. We were advised in advance that the location was alongside a busy main road, but as our room was at the rear of the hotel we were in no way disturbed by any noise. […] The eveing meal was excellent, despite there being a large family party taking place. The building looks like an old hotel which has been renovated, well parts have been but quite a lot is still to be done! Some bits have a nice authentic atmosphere, other parts are just old and worn down. Our bathroom had clearly been built into an already existing room and was therefore rather small. Both the room and the rest of the place could have […] been cleaner. Breakfast was not great. I won't say we would never stay here again, but next time we want to stay in this area we'll try another hotel. Lisateave
