Dergvale Hotel - Dublin

This hotel is situated near the Writer's Museum in the centre of Dublin but it is in quite a quiet location, so you'll be able to get a good night's sleep. The neighbourhood is a bit run down. There is a shop nearby for the late night nibbles. I was satisfied with my room and the breakfast was alright.

The location was inconvenient as it was about a mile from the city centre and the neighborhood was very unsafe. Multiple locals warned me not to go out alone past dark because chances are I would get mugged (it gets dark at 4pm in the winter...) so I had to take a cab everywhere. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the city centre and very close to Croke Park. Easy access to the airport, so no problems on that score. Friendly staff, reasonable rates and a good breakfast to set you up for the day. Well kept me going anyway. Would use again without doubt.

The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was well maintained -decent water pressure in the shower and comfortable bed. Its a little bit off the main drag but in the direction of the airport so that wasn't too bad. My only complaint is wifi is only available in the lobby area.

The room was cold almost all night, the breakfast was limited, the sweet was noisy because of the window panels, the wind came through the side of the window, The street was messy, not clean entrance. They forgot to call us in the morning for wake up call. People were very friendly though.

It was perfect for what I was looking for. It was very close to city center so it was easy to get to all of the sightseeing I wanted to do. I had actually booked for the wrong night but when I get there the staff was extremely accommodating in that situation and were very helpful with storing my luggage and giving advice on what to do around the city. […] The room was small, but that didn't bother me at all. I stayed at this hotel in Dublin 30 years ago so my memory of it brought me back. It is a 23 room hotel, building built 75 years ago, and charming. The staff is superior. The breakfast is very good. It is close to the new conventioin center so always booked. Book well enough in advance to secure a room. There is no elevator and no internet but wi-fi […] access. Staff will assist you with luggage. I asked about heat and they brought me two heavy blankets right away because the heat hadn't been turned on due to warm weather during the days. Not the greatest hotel but it was good for what I needed since I was flying out of Dublin the next morning. Breakfast was good. Just be careful in the surrounding areas since you don't want to be walking around by yourself at night.

The hotel desk managers were marvelous for our very brief stay (just as a stopover on the way to the airport). They ordered our cab for the next day's trip to the airport, and even prepared a light breakfast of coffee and toast and jam for us, though we were leaving before the usual breakfast time. The wireless was nice, even though we had to log on in the obby then walk to out room...the night manager didn't really knw the system. He carried our bags to the room and then out tot the cab for us in the morning. Yes, it's an old-fashioned place, but quaint and tidy. Overall, very good indeed. Beds and duvets were comfortable. No keys are given out as there is 24 hour reception cover which worked well for us. and was a good security measure. Our room (7) had good wardrobe space, a hairdryer by a mirror, and was in everyway clean and satisfactory.

The room was very good and quiet,the hotel's location was good,but the breakfast was very limited and their orange juice was very,very watery (the worst I have ever drunk) and tasteless.They should provide honey and a variety of cereals.They only offer the cheapest cereal on the market (cornflakes). Visitors have to ask constantly.The cheese is the cheapest(already sliced) and from the local supermaket. The pics on their website are old and do not match the reality. It has been revamped for good. Room 6 was very good ,simple,clean and modern,but without mini bar. Tea and coffee free on request,due to the lack of facilities in the rooms. I would rate this 2 STAR hotel without the breakfast 8,but including their horrible breakfast 6 .Sorry. THEY HAVE TO IMPROVE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. There is not lift,because it is an old georgian house. Extremely friendly and great service. The rooms and decor are a little old fashioned, but the hotel was great for the money we paid. Great brekkie and comfy bed. Only negatives - walls a bit thin (not a prob if people are considerate) and we were little uncomfortable walking back late at night as on a quiet side street. Great budget hotel!

We had a lovely experience at the Dergvale Hotel. Of all the different places I had booked for our entire holiday this one was the least expensive (and least stars) so I was wary at first. Happily though, it much exceeded our expectations. I think much of this was thanks for really lovely, personal and friendly service and advice from their amazing […] staff, in particular Nancy and Gerard who did such a good job of looking after us and making us feel at home. My only minor negative is the stairs. We were on the 2nd floor but there were 4 small flights of stairs to lug suitcases up to get there. Other than that, the Dergvale is an easy walk to the centre of Dublin and many attractions and Nancy and Gerard were helpful in explaining about tours, places to go, and helping us book them. Our room was great. The bed was very comfortable and whilst the ensuite was tiny, it as with everything else was spotlessly clean! The other thing though that must get a mention is the breakfast! Yummo! All in all, am not really sure why the Dergvale is only 2 stars as our experience was certainly better than that, but I can happily recommend this place to others going to Dublin! Lisateave

The rooms are spotless and appointed for visitors. The bathrooms are updated and pristeen, with details such as a real glass for water, plenty of toiletries and towels, and a design that allows for storage. The bed offered cool, white sheets and the heavy comforters of my Irish memories. I slept for 9 uninterupted hours when I arrived. I come to Ireland once a year and I will never stay anywhere else. Travel TIP: The Dergvale may be hard to find for the first time visitor. Take the bus from the airport and get off at O'Connell Str. Walk back up the hill to St Georges Church, turn right and the Dergvale will be a few blocks on your left. Very short walk. Lisateave

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful as i was not quite sure of my way to the O2. Hotel was quiet no noisy music. I was also given an upgrade on the room I booked. A great breakfast next morning. I would stay there again.
