The Westin St. Maarten, Dawn Beach Resort & Spa - Oyster Pond (Holland)

The hotel is clean, the food is average but the service is just awful. Servers at the pool, bar, resturants and casino are not at all attentive. I dont think they have figured out yet that the more they take care of their guests, majority Americans from what I could tell, the more we tip!! Im glad to say I won enough money at their casino to pay for […] everything I did while at the hotel or Id be kind of upset. The pit boss even had the nerve to tell a person that was betting heavy at the table to walk to the bar instead of calling a server over. They just dont get it!!! Oh well, atleast the pool is nice, but dont expect any service at the swim up bar. That bartender acknowledged us and then proceeded to wait 15 minutes before coming over to us to take our orders. Ample room though the carpet not so clean The Westin is a good option in St. Maarten. The beach is beautiful, service is OK, people friendly. Location no so easy to find because lack of proper signals along the roads. Even the car with GPS made to get to the hotel daunting.

A great staff and a beautiful location. I did not get the room we asked for but the staff made it up to us in other ways. Great time!!!

Just returned from our first stay in St. Maarten - we loved the Westin - beautiful facilities, nice room, basically a private beach, located near a few fabulous restaurants in Oyster Pond (less than 5 min cab ride). We listened to a 90 min time share presentation and got 3-day car rental for free - worth it to rent a car so you can explore the island. […] It is away from the packed beaches and shopping meccas, but easy to drive to all those areas. The pool area is absolutely beautiful and overlooks the ocean. Breakfast buffet every morning was great. Helpful staff. Slight musty smell in room disappeared when we opened up our balcony doors to enjoy the ocean sights and sounds. We will stay here again. Lisateave

The pros about the Westin-Dawn Beach are that the rooms were clean,updated,spacious and comfortable. The staff was very nice and helpful. We were even able to have a late check out. Beautiful location and excellent food. However the cons are the hotel is so far from the airport. Took us over an hour to get to the hotel. Also the carpet in the hallways […] in the hotel were stained and seemed like they could have been kept in better condition for a Westin. Lisateave

I was bothered with bug bites while sleeping. I would go to bed with nothing on my skin and wake up with red lesions in several places on my legs. I am aware that bed bugs are a real problem again in our society due to so much international travel. I voiced this to the lady at the desk and she said it was probably mosquito bites. i don't think this […] is true as I never saw a mosquito and the bites didn't look like that of a mosquito. The hotel pool and beachfront alone is worth the stay. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. Rooms are very comfortable, with the bed featuring the "Miracle" mattress found in most Westin properties. Casino is usually quiet and plenty of one-one-one blackjack opportunities. Parking on-site is very convenient. Very […] convenient to the French side of the island. Be sure to visit the Butterfly Farm near Orient Beach and the Zoo near Phillipsburg. Lisateave

The Resort itself is beautiful breathtaking, unfortuantely the service was the worst Ive ever encountered. Its very disappointing to go on vacation to have the waiters and front desk practically ignore you.

We had a great stay at the hotel. Although we were unhappy at the moment of arrival that the room was not ready on time, we were very pleased by care and understanding we received from manager on duty Nadine l. She tried her best to make us happy. She assisted me with problem I had with car rental company. She was alaways there with a smile, inquiring […] how she could be of help. I would also like the than the General Manager of the hotel John H. for his professionalism and care about customers' problems. The room was very nice and clean. The bathroom was very specious. There is not too much entertainment in the hotel and it's pretty isolated. Lisateave

not a good location hotel staff not very friendly although restaurant staff friendlier hotel corridors like a motel hotel overpriced

The hotel is a very nice facility and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately this was offset my many of the staff. Many of the staff were rude, surly, and appeared to have a bit of an attitude. There were some nice exceptions to this...the concierge service was up to par and the lady who was shift manager during checkin was very warm […] and nice. I would give the bar a grade of D and the restaurant a C- at best. If you could get waited on, the wait staff was very slow and almost lazy in the way they took care of patrons. I would not recommend this place to anyone or even Saint Maartin for that matter . Lisateave

A little difficult to find since St. Maarten doesnt believe or have the money to put street signs up. After getting lost a few times in less than desirerable neighborhoods to find the hotel, we found it, The hallways smelled a little of mildew. The room was fantastic and the staff super nice.

A little out of the way if you want to get away from the hotel dining and nightlife. On the other hand we attended the "pirates night buffet" (very nice)and went to nearby oyster bay for dinner a couple of nights. Pool and beaches were very nice. Staff above average. If you plan on going to Phillipsburg or Marigot you mind as well rent a car for the […] week because one trip to each place in a taxi will pay for the car rental. Lisateave

The Westin Dawn Beach Resort was awesome! The beach was beautiful and the pool was slightly heated. They have a dinner buffet every wednesday called Pirates Buffet at the Ocean Restaurant and the buffet itself was outstanding and very fulfilling. They had a fire dance show as well with live caribbean music at the buffet. The only problem is that the […] hotel is 30 minutes away from the airport but the ride back and forth is breathtaking and you see a vast view of the island. They don't recommend you to walk around outside the hotel at night but there are only really 2 restaurants inside the hotel not including the little eating place by the pool, so it's best to explore the eating places around the hotel at the daytime. I definetly recommend this restaurant called "Big Fish" which is like 5 minutes away from the hotel. They have great seafood and jerk chicken. I absolutely loved the glass frame shower. Lisateave

We've stayed in St. Martin 5 times. Once in Anse Marcel-way over a very steep mountain-no fun; twice at Esmeralda-nice location-hotel run down-staff touchy;once at Beach Hotel-nothing special; and this time at the Westin- Clearly since it's new it's in great shape. Staff in previous reviews were iffy but for us they were very helpful at front desk, […] concierge, restaurants, bars, beach front. One very minor altercation over room towels-whatever! While I know my way around the island at this point, the Westin is pretty isolated. Orient Beach is pretty close. We used to eat at Grand Case alot, this time we did not because of the Westin's location. The hotel is ten minutes from Philipsburg. This time with a detour in Cole Bay it took an hour to get to Simpson Bay (in July-low season) hopefully finished in Aug 2009. Hotel was cheap and we had a great time there. Lisateave

What a lovely, clean hotel. The beds are beautiful and so comfy! Bathroom is tremendous. Great place to stay just alittle far from airport and places to shop and eat. Nice pool and the staff are soooo nice. Great experiance. What FUN!

Fiquei decepcionado com o atendimento dos funcionários do hotel. Parecia que éramos importantes para eles. Logo na chegada, por volta das 21:40 hs, ocorreu demora na localização das bagagens recem desembarcadas, pois o maleteiro havia se ausentado com elas, misturadas com as de outros clientes. Por isso, somente chegamos ao restaurante para jantar às […] 22.20 hs e o encontramos fechado. Indagada, a funcionário interna respondeu que o restaurante fechava às 22:30 hs e que a cozinha estava fechada. Entendo que nos deixaram sem jantar sem justificativa. Lamentável. para una isla que no se destaca por los grandes hoteles, está muy bien. solo dos observaciones: está muy retirado de las atracciones de la isla lo cual obliga a taxis(caros) o a alquilar un vehiculo (dificil la movilizacion x ausencia de señalizacion vias pequeñas y obscuras y pocos parqueaderos en zonas turisticas); y lo otro es la piscina que es muy […] fria y no tiene climatizacion. afortunadamente tiene un jacuzzi grande. Mycket snyggt hotel perfekt läge mitt på ön,lite svårt att hitta till. Fantastisk strand och poolområde, dricks alltid välkommet för extra service. Snygga stora rum med både dusch och litet badkar. Verkligen rekommenderas.

Excelente hotel. O único ponto de atenção para quem alugar carro, é ter um bom mapa, principalmente para quem chega na ilha de noite. As placas para Dawn Beach são escassas. Inicialmente, recomendo seguir as placas para Philipsburg. Durante a minha estadia estava de aniversário e ganhei uma champanhe francesa de cortesia.
