Best Western Montenotte Hotel - Cork

Very nice hotel with very good breakfast at a reasonable price. Take the 208 bus from Patrick St if you do not have a car as hotel is high above the city in a very good area. Up hill all the way. The going down is easy! Very quite area.

Breakfast was supposed to start at 7.30am and was not available until 8am. I was there for my brother's funeral and had to leave at 7.50 which we mentioned to the hotel the previous night to ensure that breakfast was available. Dinner service was poor and slow, food was poor and cold. I would not recommend this hotel.

This is by no means a 4 Star as advertised. I have always heard of threadbear carpet well I actually have seen it now. The maid refused to leave more than 2 towels even though I booked for 3 adults. Hotel somewhat out of the way. WIFI expensive and slow as a snail ( Isuggest dont bother you will only be aggrevated by how slow). Bed hard as a rock. hotel was very clean and tidy. bit dissappointed the restaurant stopped serving at 9pm as our ferry was delayed and didn't arrive till 9.30 Gym and pool fascilities were excellent(didn't use myself but both sons did) hotel was a bit out of the way from city centre but comfortable walk down but needed taxi back due to steep hill & poor street lighting […] on road up to hotel Lisateave

A little hard to find but really lovely hotel. Being a Best Western, we had low expectations but it was really very lovely and definitely a 4 star hotel. Would definitely recommend this for a family and even a romantic getaway (but make sure you have a car!)

Two issues arose with the room. 1. The lock on the bathroom door was damaged and could not be used. The bathroom door would not stay shut. 2. The Room was booked as a triple bedroom but there were only two sets of towels. A request at the reception desk for more towels was pleasantly accepted but not carried out. The people there were very helpful even helped us with the luggage. We travelled ALL over Ireland (North East, North West, South East, South West) and out of all the places we've been to - the Internet in this hotel is the fastest compared to all the others! The service is great and the rooms are very comfortable! 5 Stars definitely.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of city but you can walk into center of town in about 15-20 mins, all downhill. Perhaps you ought to get taxi's back which cost me €7. The hotel leisure facilities were nice and quiet and there was a pleasant atmosphere around the hotel. My first room didn't suit as there was a stale smell of smoke but the receptioinist […] did give me an upgrade to a larger room which I was very happy with considering I hadn't paid alot for the room, cleanliness was also quite good. We found the hotel to be above our expectations considering the price paid on line. Would most certaintly return and stay again. Rooms clean, tidy and quiet, what more could you want.

Hotel is not clean. It is dark and oppressive. BED VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. We were given a double bed and single bed within our room. Questioned reception as we had paid for KING upgrade. They insisted our room was the nicer, larger upgrade. ? Our room was in a basement! (of which you had to access by two separate stairways.) Housekeeping was never seen. […] Towels were not even replaced/ hung up. Service is not a priority here. Forget parking. There is an exercise gym on site which apparently everyone, even locals use, so there is no parking... anywhere. The hotel is kindof close to city center shopping, but if I were you, I'd take a look into the Best Western Ambassador, or other hotel chain. I'm usuall not picky. On this, I definitely do NOT recommend. There was a pack of cigarettes left in our room for God only knows how long. Maybe the housekeeper sneaked away for a smoke because he/she definitely did not spend time cleaning anything in our Non Smoking Room. YOU WILL NOT BE ATTENDED BY ANY STAFF AT THIS HOTEL. Expect to walk. There is definitely nowhere to park. Front door is only door that remains accessible. Lisateave

We stayed two nights at the Montenotte, and I must admit that I was embarrassed that I had booked such a horrible hotel. After traveling across Ireland in other "four star" hotels I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from that level of lodging. Obviously, I was wrong. The hotel itself is pretty, with a nice bar and is located in a convenient […] place. However, the room was dirty and dingy looking. Although it was only 50 degrees F outside, our room was sweltering. We inquired about a remedy at the front desk and were told to "turn the knob on the register toward the snowflake". The knob was already on the snowflake, and it was still too hot to sleep! We ended up sleeping with the windows open, although we didn't feel safe because our room was on a ground floor. When we came back to the room after housekeeping had come through the next day we discovered that they had reopened our closed and locked window (because of the heat?), thereby giving access to our luggage, Ipad, cell phones, etc. to any theif passing by! We were lucky nothing was stolen! Our second night at the hotel the fire alarm went off at 3 am. At this point, I was almost hoping for a fire so that the sprinklers would go off and cool us down! Overall, we were extrordinarily dissapointed with our stay at the Montenotte, and would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The Best Western Montenotte hotel was quite lovely. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the decor was beautiful. Downsides would be that they don't have hair conditioner (I'm always bummed about that with hotels), and you have to pay for wireless. Also, I'd love to see some more vegan food options. Afterall, many travelers, especially Americans, […] are starting to switch to a vegan diet and need food abroad! That said, the hotel was great, and the walk up the road, while slightly strenuous, is peaceful and a good mild workout. Lisateave

Cork is a hilly town and has a lot of hills around. Although the description of hotel says 1 mile from town centre, the return journey is a very steep hilly walk which you will end up paying for a cab each time you go out. Might aswell pay more to a closer hotel in town. This hotel also has about 20 stairs to go to any room and no lift for this bit […] is available, and although there's a wheelchair lift, it wasn't offered for our suitcases. All taxi drivers said bad things about the hotel although the neighbourhood is a nice one. The town is full of hotels and guest houses, so our recommendation is to go there. On a good note the room was clean but in general furnishings and decorations are old. There is a view of the river (being on the hill) but not worth the hassle. Make sure breakfast is included, as we discovered our rate wasn't giving us breakfast with it and we had to pay an extortianate amount at the reception, even though the night receptionist on checking in confirmed we had breakfast included... Really disapointed with stay at this hotel. Room was pretty bad with moth holes in the net curtains and tiny bathroom. Corridor was grubby with stains on carpet. Got back to hotel after being out for dinner and teenage disco going on just outside room window with people shouting and loud music. Had to change rooms but then was woken at 4am by drunken […] people shouting in corridors and singing in next room. The walls are obviously paper thin. Absolute disgrace to call this hotel 4star, more like a 2star! Lisateave

We only stayed one night in this hotel and after a little trouble trying to find it we were happy enough.It is fairly newly renovated hotel but the throw on the bed was dirty which made us wonder what else might be. Otherwise we were happy with our visit.

We were pleasantly surprised with the room as the last time we stayed we seemed to have a basement type room...very dark and facing the carpark. Unfortuately it was the noisiest stay I have ever had in a hotel. There was shouting and running on the corridor 'til all hours on the first night, on the second night, the TV in the room next door seemed to […] be blaring all night long. There was a locked door between the 2 rooms so this probably did nt help. Also, the handle on the bathroom door kept coming off in our hands....Despite the bad sleeps, I do like this hotel! This hotel was lovely, however the location is a bit inconvenient. If you have a car or don't mind hiking, don't hesistate to book it; the room is standard, but the facilites on property (gym and bar) are outstanding. The main thing in any hotel where you are going for a few days is your room. Our room was perfect, we couldn't fault it in any way. The rest of the hotel appeared excellent but we never used the facilities. The walk to town is approx 1 mile which we enjoyed but after a few pints on a night it's probably best to get a taxi back as it is all uphill.

Stayed here for one night for a wedding, lovely views of city from hotel, only 10 min walk from city. Room lovely, no complaints

Very nice clean hotel, friendly staff, good breakfast, nice pool in leisure centre. i would recommend this hotel to a friend. it's not far from the city centre.

Nice hotel, a little quirky on the layout. Rooms were large comfortable and clean. It's pretty long walk to to city center, but the hotel is on a hillside overlooking the river with nice homes along the way.

When I stay in a 4* hotel I expect the attention to small details to be there. This hotel was lacking. The bed was uncomfortable, the mattress sagged in the middle & it was 2 singles pushed together, with nothing to hold the 2 mattresses together except the top sheet. I was in a lot of pain on Sunday morning after the stay here. There was no glass […] in the room, not even something to rinse your teeth with! Car parking was another nightmare, not enough spaces to cope with the number of people there & we didn't arrive that late on Saturday night, around 730pm and had to park way down the hill in a spot which was slightly dodgy. The girl who checked us in was very very slow & when I went back to ask about internet the girl at the desk was chatting on the phone (on what sounded like a personal call) and didn't even acknowledge me! My husband and I stayed here for a 3 night south of Ireland get away after a week in Dublin. The hotel has nice sized rooms with modern decor.It is about a 15 min. walk to the city center which saves you the stress of finding parking. However, make sure you wear comfortable shoes because it is a bit of a steep descent and climb back. The restaurants […] provide a view of the River Lee but there are quite a bit of loading cranes which disrupts the view. Prices for dinner offerings start at around 23 euros up to 60 euros for the main course alone(not cheap). The hotel is located in a residential area and is difficult to find, so a GPS device is helpful if you plan on driving to Cork as we did. It was an expensive 3 day outing, but we enjoyed our stay at the Montenotte hotel. Lisateave

Fantastic hotel, staff very helpful would highly recommend but you do need to be fairly fit to walk up the hill from centre of Cork . Will be going back if ever in Ireland again.

The Montenotte was near the railwaystation and had a fantastic view! The room was clean and the people working there very nice!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights,and would reccomend it to anyone, the cleaners kept the room we stayed in excellent clean condition, the staff were friendly and helpul, with excellent swimming pool, gym and garden etc, also we booked this hotel from hotels.com online, and that made it very good value for money

The room was very comfortable to stay in with good cleanliness and very friendly staff who was always there to help with trip planning and general things like ordering taxi and room service. The food was moderate and slightly expensive. Room service was expensive (5 Euros for a bottle of mineral water!- It maybe useful to know that there's a vending […] machine in 2nd floor) The location of the hotel was quite far from city centre, depending on how keen you are as a walker! It's uphill- about 15 minutes to Cork Kent Railway Station and 20minutes walk to Parnell Place Bus Station, and 30minutes to City Centre (St. Patrick Street). Recommend to visit nearby Cobh (25minutes by train), Kinsale (50minutes by Bus) and Blarney Castle (25minutes by Bus). Très bel hôtel, un peu excentré sur Cork, mais ayant fait plusieurs villes lors de notre séjour, nous avons été étonnés par le tarif des chambres par rapport à la qualité de l'hôtel. Centre de loisirs et piscine couverte, chambre très confortables, nous le recommandons !

Avevamo prenotato una tripla per 2 giorni ed una doppia per un giorno. Nella tripla abbiamo dovuto richiedere ogni giorno il terzo set di asciugamani, per la doppia (al momento del check in ci è stato detto che potevamo restare nella stessa camera ma il terzo giorno, innanzi tutto il servizio di pulizia ha bussato alla porta addirittura all 8.30 del […] mattino, ed inoltre non risultava la nostra prenotazione. Infine vogliamo segnalare l'eccessiva rumorosità dei servizi e degli avventori. Nel ristorante dell'hotel si tengono party e cerimonie ed hai partecipanti, compreso i bambini, è permesso andare per i corridoi delle camere urlando senza che nessuno dica niente. Ett välskött hotell med ett högt läge och utsikt över stan. En utsikt som vi tyvärr inte fick njuta av då vårt rum hade utsikt över en betongvägg... Läget är inte detbästa för den som inte är bilburen, detta då det ligger högt upp på en kulle och bussförbindelserna var sådär...

Het hotel is goed bereikbaar met een auto of taxi, als je liever wandelt, indien je vertrekt van het treinstation in Cork, verwacht je dan op 15 minuten berg-op wandelen. Neem voor je eerste bezoek zeker de taxi zodat je een wandelroute hebt, of toch een vorm van orientatie hebt. De staat van de wegen naar het hotel is niet meteen subliem te noemen, […] verwacht je niet meteen aan de properste wandelroute van de stad. Het bied wel een zeer goed uitzicht over de stad, en bij avond is het zelfs prachtig om de stad te kunnen overzien met hun vele lichtjes. Het hotel zelf heeft voldoende parkeerruimte, de inkomhal heeft rechts, de toegang tot de 'Merchants Bistro' en de 'Vista Lounge' waar je aan mooie prijsjes een maaltijd of drankje kan nuttigen. Het hotel heeft toegang to het bitbuzz netwerk waardoor je toegang hebt tot het internet, dit is wel niet inbegrepen in de prijs, verwacht je aan €5 extra per dag, je moet de voucher zelf aankopen aan de receptie. die receptie ligt vlak voor de ingang van het hotel, de kamers liggen links. Er is een trapje naar boven (uitgerust met een lift platform voor rolstoelgebruikers), het hotel heeft ook een gym(fitness ruimte) een zwembad, sauna ,stoombad en jaccuzi. Deze heb ik zelf niet gebruikt en kan hier dus ook niets over kwijt anders dan dat me verteld werd dat deze toegangkelijk zijn voor hotelgasten zonder extra betaling. Het personeel is zeer vriendelijk, in het hotel alsook in de eerder genoemde eetgelegenheden. De staat van de kamers leek goed op eerste zicht, na wat zoeken in de kasten kan je een waterkoker en thee servies vinden alsook suiker en melk, een struikplank inclusief strijkijzer en badhanddoeken, in de badkamer vind je minizeepjes en zowel douchegel als haarshampoo en weeral badhanddoeken. Na verdere inspectie viel het op dat het strijkijzer nogal beschadigd was, het werkte nog wel. Een kamerlicht wilde ook al niet aan gaan, het bad was beschadigd alsook enkele tegels, en het raam ging niet echt ver open. Deze Lisateave

Je hebt een mooi uitzicht over de stad Cork. Het hotel heeft veel faciliteiten; een lekker zwembad, sauna, bubbelbad, stoombad en dan heb je ook nog een bad op je kamer. De kamers zijn erg ruim.
