Byblos Resort & Casino - Manuel Antonio

The villas are GREAT! Roomy, clean, comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and you feel as though you are truly in the rain forest. We watched monkeys cavorting in the trees as we lay by the pool, small animals and lizards all about the grounds, cool birds. It is also right next door to the Manuel Antonio rainforest nighttime walk (really cool to go […] out with flashlights and find frogs, lizards, etc). The food is okay and relatively expensive. Our only real negative is that it was NOISY! The hotel is on the main street (2 laned), so you do hear the road noise, but more than that, the sports bar and casino are right across the way and you hear all that hubbub all night. Fri nite was particularly problematic, as it was Ladies nite, and there was hooting and hollering (literally) until late in the evening. If you have good earplugs (which we did) you will be fine. We just got back from Costa Rica, where we enjoyed a week of fantastic ecotourism. Byblos Resort and Casino was definitely a highlight of the trip. We stayed for three nights so we would be near Manuel Antonio National Park. The grounds of the resort are so beautiful that it is like its own national park. We saw monkeys, sloths, birds, and other wildlife […] on the premises... more nature than we saw in the national park. We were able to watch white faced capuchin monkeys frolicking in the trees right outside our hotel room (far enough away to not be a threat, but close enough to get great photos.) The room was very spacious, and tastefully furnished. The beds were vast and very comfortable. The balcony overlooked the Pacific Ocean - what a view. One caution: if you don't like or navigate steps well, do not stay here. I counted over 90 steps from the pool/restaurant up to our room, and there is no elevator. We got used to that quickly and managed it well. We enjoyed the hotel pool, which was in a lovely setting (took an evening swim, watching the stars overhead, and listening to the rain forest sounds.) Our stay included breakfast, which was served in a poolside restaurant - a relaxed setting, great service, very pleasant experience. We had arranged tours that picked us up at the hotel and took us to local attractions (and there are many, many lovely activities in the area!) The staff was very friendly and helpful. At night the place is hopping -- they have a casino (we are not big gamblers but had fun popping a few coins into the slot machines) and the bar had fun entertainment - a band one night, and a latin dance night. We had a few drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere - very laid back. One other highlight - the hotel is literally right next door to a private nature preserve, which offers tours. We took the night hike, and it was awesome. Saw amazing critters that only emerge in the darkness. They provide a knowledgeable guide and flashlights and the more than 2 hour wa Lisateave

Byblos is a great place to stay - Room was fine - The Italian restuarant was really great - Davy our bartender was really nice. We especially liked that the Monkeys came by at dusk every night to see us. There were also birds and lizards etc. everywhere. If you like animals this is the place!! The sportsbar was also nice with free dance lessons one […] night and live band another night. The pool was nice and we would definetely come back here if we ever come back to Manual Antonio!! We stayed at 4 different properties on this trip to Costa Rica and this was the only one that I dont have one negative thing to say!!! Lisateave

With the monkeys swinging past our balcony or pool side at dusk, we often commented that it felt like we were in a zoo with no cages. The music of the tree frogs and the evening flight of bats added to the "jungle" like feel while we slept in comfort.

I like the concept of the hotel, because you are surrounded by beauty and nature, however I believe in constant maintenance. The water in the shower was backing up, towels were not clean. In essence there is room for improvement. they need to look into these things seriously. there are better hotels at a better rate than this one and if they don't do […] anything about it seriously they can run out of business. We arrived later on a Sunday evening after a long back road drive from San Jose. When we b Elias greeted us and gave us a few tips on dining and later helped us book an amazing guide in the park -Dago. Melissa at the desk was also helpful, pointing out monkeys and gave us other recommendations. My husband and I are in our mid thirties and enjoy the […] nightlife which can only be found after 10pm and the only at Byblos.....otherwise the town is pretty dark for drinks & fun. So luckily we just headed back to Byblos. Diago & Renzo (from the sports bar) were super friendly, social, and great and made us feel welcome everytime we saw them......basically ever night. The groundskeeper and pool bartender on two occasions both randomly brought us ice. Without asking, just cause. Last thing my husband wanted me to add was monkeys, monkeys, monkeys.....they were running around the rooftops playing, throwing rocks at each other ( we found it funny) swinging from the trees....we definitely saw monkeys at Byblos. I loved the agouti we saw everywhere they were cute....reminded me of big guinea pigs. Loved the bungalows.....a bit dated but worth the money. Lisateave

The towels and blankets are very old and not clean. This is a 2 star hotel standard.

We had a great stay. You are surrounded by beautiful forest and every afternoon the monkeys come in a put on a show. Very clean, nice staff.

As this was our first trip to Costa Rica, we tried to find a place where we felt secure and had accomodations comparable to those we experience in the states. We found that at Byblos. Everything was what we'd expect and more, and the service was outstanding. We enjoyed the complimentary cooked-to -order poolside breakfasts. There are many near-by restaurants […] that offer a wide range of price/style choices. We're glad we opted for the resort area of Manuel Antonio as opposed to the Tico town of Quepos. While Quepos was nice to visit, Manuel Antonio, fit more with our expectations of a vacation destination. There's a nice but small casino at the hotel, and it also has a good Sports Bar , with games going and pool tables and food. While we didn't try the on-site restaurant because of other choices near-by, we heard good things from other guests. We had a chance to meet some of the owners, and they were activity on-site running the day-to-day operations. They even let us use their laptop when the guest desktop wouldn't load up our email sites. The Wifi worked well around the pool as well as in the rooms. Lisateave

Hotel management is really good here. It's centrally located. It's worth the extra money for the bungalow vs the reg hotel room.

Great location, nice big room, very friendly and helpful staff. The grounds were beautiful and so much fun to watch the monkeys come in each evening to feed and play. A definite bonus!! Would recommend it and would stay there again.

This hotel is great!! The staff was SOOO nice, helpful and friendly!!!! The beach is like a 15 minute walk (downhill going there, uphill going back to the hotel... my mom is 66 and she was able to do it without a problem)... It is a great hotel, with delicious b-fasts every morning... and I was happy I got to see a bit more of Manuel Antonio while walking […] to the beach everyday. Would definitely go back and I will recommend it to all my friends!! Lisateave

Byblos is located on the main road to Manuel Antonio/Playa Espedilla beach. The bus comes by and you can take it for very cheap (like fifty cents). The hotel is great- clean, comfortable, etc. The staff is fantastic and will help you by booking tours, calling cabs, etc. They have a computer with internet for guests. The hotel is surrounded by trees and rainforest and there are actually monkeys that jump around in the trees all around you. They have a nice bar and casino, open at night only. hotel staff spoke great english and they were very helpful with letting us check in early and holding onto our bags. pizzeria next store was tasty but a little pricey. pool was a nice break from the salty ocean but they were using a weed wacker alot while we were there. this scared away the monkeys and created a thick cloud of smoke in the air. other […] than that the only real problem was you had to take a bus ride to the beach and to quepos. the bus was cheap (about 50 cents) but it was still a little bit of a hassle.. This place is falling apart!

the hotel and service was good. no major complaints. I only thought the hotels could've looked better for the price we paid. A bit of a walk to the beach, but there are buses that run ever 15 mins.

We had a wonderful experience at Byblos. The hotel grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the monkeys each day. All the staff - the front desk, the restaurant, the housekeepers - were all very friendly and helpful. We felt like special guests every single day. The front desk staff were especially helpful in arranging tours - ask them to connect […] you to Dago (an independent guide) if you want a tour at Manuel Antonio or Carara. Our kids loved the hotel for the pizza and the clean, warm, beautiful pool and monkeys. (And by the way, the monkeys stay up in the trees or on the hotel roof, they do not come close to people.) We all enjoyed the daily breakfasts by the pool with fresh fruits and a selection of pancakes, eggs, or the typical Costa Rican breakfast. The kids thought the food was great. We thought the Costa Rican food was tasty, and the pizza was great too. Our best dinners were in nearby restaurants, of which there are many you can easily reach by walking, taxi, or the clean, convenient city bus. The room AC was great - a remote controls allows you to program in a temperature you want. The hotel also provides extra towels for the beach and pool, so that's one less thing to pack. There's a safe in the room, a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker with great drip Costa Rican coffee. I only gave the room a 4 because the beds and pillows were very firm, and I don't happen to like that, but that might be perfectly comfortable for someone else. We were so exhausted from all the activities each day that we slept fine and enjoyed waking up to the sounds of birds and howler monkeys each day. Lisateave

Neat hotel with great rooms and friendly/helpful staff. Food leaves a lot to be desired. We recommend "La Hacienda" restaurant. Hotel a poor choice for any one who has issues with stairs. Local buses are convenient.

Everything was wonderful. We were in Costa Rica for the first time and really wasn't sure where to go or what to do. The Manuel Antonio area provided everything we wanted in our vacation! Byblos was the perfect hotel for the Costa Rica experience yet had enough of the American flare to make us comfortable. Diego (sports bar bartender) was exceptional! […] He and the other "regulars" had great recommendations on what to see and do. And since it was football season, there was always games on. We enjoyed the pizza at the pool bar and met other friendly locals there. We were amazed by the monkey show each afternoon and then was lucky enough to see a Toucan and Howler Monkeys right at the pool (both of those are a rare site around there). One suggestion is to boost your step training before you go. Elevators are a rarity in this country, and the steps aren't uniform ... workout before you go. Lisateave

This hotel is very well located. The bus stop is very clsoe by and we were able to take the bus everywhere and it saved us some $. The hotel is very close to all cool restaurants as well as the Manuel Antonio park. Very convenient. We got the ocean view room. The view was beautiful but you could not see the ocean for most part of the day due to clouds […] and weather conditions. So, it really does not matter whether you are assigned a ocean view room or not. The hotel is located in a very beautiful setting and the views are spectacular. We got to see monkeys and many other animals right from the hallway leading up to our room. The owner as well as the staff are very friendly and help you with any thing that you may want. Breakfast is included in the price and it is great value. Hearty breakfast served by the pool by attentive staff. I would recommend this hotel to others. Lisateave

No need to look for wildlife far...there are monkeys already jumping around the hotel. Really pleasant experience. Recommended for friendliness, cleanliness, uniquness, location. There is nothing to not to like about this hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights when we went to visit Manuel Antonio. It is very close to the park and easy to get to from this hotel. There are a number of places to eat in the area, including two places right on the premises. The staff was incredibly friendly and were willing to hold our bags for us the day we were leaving, so we could enjoy some time […] on the beach before heading out of the town. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. For the price, this is an amazing value. Lisateave

I would highly recommend this hotel during a visit to Manuel Antonio. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The bungalows are well-kept and clean. The hotel property is very scenic. The location of the hotel is within a mile from the park. All in all, this is a great hotel!

Checked in late at night, shower (HOT knob) could not be turned, forced to take a low pressure cold shower. Drain was clogged forced to stand in water. I asked to change rooms the next day. In our second room I found 85% of the shower water flowed out of the bottom nozzle (2 feet above the floor) which consisted of the Hot water. We got a weak drizzle […] of cold water for our shower, while burning hot water scolded our feet. Again the drain was clogged. Since we were convinced all the rooms had faulty showers we asked in the morning (2nd morning of our 3 night stay) that a repair person fix our shower. We were assured it would be fixed during the day. After spending the day in the Manuel Antonio National Park and returning to our room around 4PM we were shocked to find NOTHING had been done to repair our shower. We dealt with the weak stream of cold water again, and checked out the next morning, but not before the owner overheard me complaining at the front desk. The owner "Davis" an American seemed sympathetic to our situation and personally checked our shower shortly before we checked out to see first hand all the hot water flowing out the bottom and weak stream of cold water dripping from the shower head. We also found several dead bugs on the bed, and lots of dead mosquitos along the window near the shower. The maids are not trained to clean the rooms very well. On a positive the note the little pool was sparkling clean and the grounds were lovely and the location could not be better, but my basic needs (working shower) were not met. Lisateave

Upon arriving, we were told that the bungalow we had booked was already taken, so we were "upgraded" to a suite. The airconditioning hardly worked, all of the windows were unlocked and some were cracked open (there were no screens, therefore we had bugs), and there was a big gap all along the side of the door frame that let in bugs. We even had a cockroach […] about 3 inches long in our bathtub! To be fair, we were only staying two nights and did not bother to mention our complaints, however, I don't know how they could have fixed the gap in our doorframe or added screens to our windows. Some of the hotel staff was friendly, (not all, many times they seemed annoyed by asking for the services they claimed to provide) but I will say that there were three positive notes - location was good, pizzeria was excellent, and there were tons of monkeys both days we stayed. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay again. Lisateave

Liegt auf halben Weg zwischen dem Dorf Quepos und Manuel Ant. N.P., hoch über dem Meer. Casino im Haus, daher an gewissen Tagen Life-Musik bis Mitternacht. 2-3 km zum Strand und 4 km zum N.P. Abgeschlossener Parkplatz für Mietauto. Liegt an der Hauptstrasse, mit ÖV gut erschlossen. Ohne Mietauto besser Hotel/Lodge nahe Strand und N.P.-Eingang buchen: […] es gibt viele dort. El personal del hotel hizo todo lo posible para que nuestra estancia sea satisfactoria no obstante el hotel no tiene las comodidades que dice ofrecer y tuvimos serios inconvenientes durante nuestra estadia lo cual hizo que el Gerente nos redimiera por todos los problemas haciendose cargo de los extras de nuestra habitacion. Quiero agradecer a Melissa […] quien en todo momento nos atendio excelente y se preocupo en solucionar los problemas que estuvieron a su alcance, lamente no poder conocer al gerente quien en ningun momento se comunico ni se hizo presente durante los 3 dias de nuestra visita. Hubiese preferido hablar con el para darle mi opinion acerca de los varios problemas que tuvimos, comenzando con la habitacion que no estaba disponible la primer noche a pesar de haber pagada y confirmada por adelantado, tuvimos que dormir en un bungalow que no era nuestra reserva con olor a humedad y sin vista al mar ni premium. Luego el aire acondicionado de la habitacion que no funciono el segundo dia teniendo que cambiar nuevamente de habitacion y el TV y su control remoto que tampoco funcionaron, demasiados inconvenientes para 3 dias. Por favor solucionen los problemas que no son graves pero que a un turista no quiere pasar por eso, el costo de acondicionar el hotel va a ser infinitamente menor al costo de insatisfaccion de un cliente. We loved this hotel. When we were in Manuel Antonio it was very rainy so we kept staying an extra day, hoping for better weather. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Also, we enjoyed the restaurant, pool, and bar all in the same hotel since walking on foot is hard with no sidewalks on the very curvy main road. They had a very reasonable dinner […] special: you get a glass of wine, the main course with salad, and desert for only $16. This includes tax (a restaurant down the road surprised us by adding a lot of tax and service fees after a pricy meal). The meal at the Byblos restaurant was the best food and best deal we found in Manuel Antonio. A great place to stay! Lisateave

Hemos ido en pareja y el hotel ha superado nuestras espectativas, el personal era encantador y el bungalow en el que nos alojamos precioso y con todas las comodidades, nevera, aire acondicionado e incluso un microondas, la terraza tenia unas vistas increibles sobre el rio. La comida estaba muy buena y el precio adecuado (las pizzas riquisimas). La piscina […] no era muy grande, pero si muy agradable rodeada de arboles inmensos, aunque por este motivo no le daba mucho el sol, pero al atardecer podias ver un monton de monitos a tu alrededor... El hotel cuenta tambien con un bar muy agradable y animado, con actuaciones en vivo algunas noches y en el que tambien se puede cenar. La playa estaba cerca, a 5 minutos en coche, igual que el PN Manuel Antonio, aunque el autobus tambien pasaba por la puerta del hotel. La experiencia ha sido maravillosa y si volvemos a Costa Rica, sin duda volveremos a Manuel Antonio e intentaremos alojarnos en el hotel Byblos Lisateave
