I was happy with it, but the room needs some upgrading. Stained carpet. Dirty wallpaper, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff a little absent minded. I had to call them back to do something a couple of times. Location couldnt have been better.

Ok, it's not the Peninsula and they don't pick you up at the airports with a green Rolls Royce. But for US$80 a night in Central, it was a good deal. The room was small but clean. I had a window with a view on the park [very quiet] and I slept well. Early departure to the airport in the morning....the hotel is 5 minutes [by taxi] to the MRT airport […] express. If you are not happy with this deal, then go to the Peninsula. For US$80, they will carry your luggage to the room....after that, you still have to pay for the room....and it's not going to be cheap. The only complain is the bathroom. Toilet bowl too low even for an average person like me (1.65M). It's quite noisy taking a shower when the water hit on the glass partition.Otherwise it is perfect place to stay.

I loved this hotel! it is all you need when traveling. Rooms are small compact, fresh and adequate. Staff friendly and efficient. Butterfly's and hug me pillows a lovely quirky touch. Value for money in an expensive city.

I have stayed at a couple of other Butterfly Hotels in Hong Kong and I have always enjoyed them. This butterfly stands out for me because of the helpful staff, Raymond in particular. Very inexpensive boutique hotel for Hong Kong standards, but you get what you pay for. This tiny hotel is cozy and in a good Sheung Wan location, which is an up and coming district loaded with antique shops & cool restaurants & bars. Walking distance of the metro & Central areas. I was here on the first leg of my vacation for 3 nights. Initilally, I saw that the hotel was on top of a hill. It was a chore to walk up the hill daily. The hotel, it's self, was very nice. They went all out with the cheesy Hollywood theme, but was amusing non-the-less. The rooms were a bit small but clean and efficient, considering it was just a base […] of operation and a place to lay your head at night. It location was was very convenent: the Western market was only a few minutes walk, as was the electric trolly and the ferry terminals. The beds were firm but not rock hard like in the other hotels you will find in China. I did not have much contact with the staff, but the contact that I did have was very friendly. I speak some Mandrin, but the staff, actually the whole island, speaks English. Overall, I liked the hotel and would recomend it to anyone staying on HK Island. Lisateave

Good location close to all amenities, walking distance to MTR and many many food stores. Not the smallest rooms in Hong Kong but close. Excellent staff, good clean tidy hotel room. Not a huge fan of having the vanity sink on the main table / desk.

At check in we were told the only rooms available were double smoking rooms or twin non smoking. We decided to suffer the stink of smoke so chose a double room. When we entered the room it was already occupied so we went back to reception and requested a twin room. They told us we could move to a double non smoking room the following evening. Not a […] good first impression. The rooms are small as was expected in a HK hotel in this price range. Large flat screen tv was good. Wifi was free and good speed. A small fridge was in the room. Bed was comfortable with a choice of hard or soft pillows. Daily housekeeping was ok. There was noise from adjacent rooms shower and toilet flush. Location suited us. A 5 minute walk to the Sheung Wan MTR station with a Starbucks opposite the MTR entrance. Getting around HK is simple with the MTR. Also a 5 min walk to Macau ferry terminal. There are a few bars close to the hotel but we didn't try them. Finding somewhere to eat was easy. A few streets away there are plenty of restaurants Overall a good hotel for the price. As mentioned by another reviewer, this hotel has been recently renovated but the building itself appeared to be older - one entire outer wall of our room was covered by semi-pungent mold. For the money, it was a decent size by HK standards, and the location is good to some local eating and shopping. The Sheung Wan MTR station was roughly a 10-12 minute […] walk away. There is a nice park for kids right next door. The staff was great, very helpful. The beds are Chinese firm, and the 'City View' room's small bathroom contained only a stall shower and western toilet; the small arm-mounted makeup/shaving mirror was out in the adjacent anteroom. Oh, and the bathroom was separated from the rest of the room by only frosted-glass walls - which I have seen before, in Hangzhou and Shanghai, in more budget-oriented hotels. Despite the smaller size of the room, it did have large closets with an almost full-length mirror inside one of the doors. The room is quite clean but the noise of the fan in the bathroom is really irritating. And this hotel doesn't have restaurant, so don't except room service if u are as lazy as me.

This hotel was good value.. The red cushion on the bed was covered in small hairs and generally seemed like their had been a pet in the room, that was pretty gross. Once I moved that aside the room was fine.

this hotel is on Hong Kong island in the old Sheung Wan district close to the city, wharf, eateries, shops, markets and the few remaining trams and backstreets that make this city interesting. The location of the hotel is fantastic. Very close to the MTR station (sheung wan) and short cab ride to all the hot spots in central. I was here with my boyfriend, we're both in our late 20s and it was perfect for what we needed. Just keep in mind the rooms are pretty small, but then again that's pretty standard for Hong Kong. Extremely small bedroom, walls were mouldy, bathroom had sliding glass door that couldn't close properly, no cups for coffee/tea (description of room mentioned coffee/tea maker, not kettle). Would not stay here again.

I recently stayed at Butterfly on Hollywood and LOVED it. The staff were super helpful and always friendly and the location is great. It is about 5-10min walk to the MTR and close to many tourist attractions. There are also many excellent restaurants in the area. Highly recommend it! :)

Location is satisfactory. Many antique galleries and a temple is located near the hotel. Main streets are five-ten minutes away by walk. Service of the staffs are good. Overall, it has cheap and reasonable price among hotels in similar level. Only one thing that I didn't like was sounds. Soundproof system was bad.

The hotel is an honest 20min walk from the main office buildings in Central and maybe 15 min to the main bar/restaurant area in Soho. This is reflected in the per night room cost being lower than at its sister hotel, the Butterfly on Wellington. This is my second experience with the Butterfly chain. The entire chain has limitations, including extremely small rooms and no on-site restaurant. However, it's quite affordable by HK standards, with updated rooms, nice linens, and free wifi that works well. Overall it's a good compromise for the price and I'll stay there again. Butterfly on Hollywood […] is in a cool neighborhood with lots of shops and cafes just down the street. I think this location will be my "go to" notel in HK going forward. I strongly recommend paying a bit extra for the larger "deluxe" rooms, as they don't feel quite so claustrophobic. They don't have extra amenities, but are about 25% bigger. Lisateave

The room was not refurbished to the standard of the pictures. I also had a problem with odour coming from the toilet which was particularly pungent when the air conditioning was off. Overall it was adequate as a place to stay but the images advertised were better than the quality of my room.

First, I must say, the staff at this hotel was amazing. Everyone (including maintenance and housekeeping) were extremely polite, and helpful. Unfortunately, this was not enough to get me to return. The hotel had some glaring issues with cleanliness. The grout and some tiles in my shower were heavily stained, and the overall cleanliness of the hotel […] was a little lacking (definitely not a pig sty, but not the cleanest). The rooms were INCREDIBLY small. I would guess my room was smaller than 50 sqft. Although the bed was comfortable, it was very small. They also lacked any amenities, including a restaurant, fitness center, and business center. The neighborhood was alright, and I was able to walk to the more desirable areas, although it was a bit of a hike. I would recommend paying a little more to stay in a hotel with more amenities, in a more traveler friendly location. Lisateave

I'm a sucker for boutique hotels in cool neighborhoods so my ratings are a little generous. One block away is a great coffe shop called Java Java and a few more blocks down is a very good Western Restaurant called Classifieds.
