My wife, daughter and I stayed at Captain Oliver's over Christmas. It's a nice place, and a good value. The staff was always very pleasant and accommodating. We requested another room from our original room to get something more updated, and the staff kindly obliged. The breakfast package for the three of us was very reasonable, and it was a nice buffet […] style with eggs to order. The restaurant was priced similarly to other venues of comparable quality. The pool was very clean and well kept, though some of the furniture was a little dated. The rooms have MAGNIFICENT views for the price, and the restaurant is on the water. For those planning to go to St. Barths, the ferry is less than 50 yards away from the restaurant so you can time your breakfast accordingly. The rooms were somewhat dated, but priced appropriately. St. Martin is not a budget destination. We own a timeshare across the bay at Oyster Pond, so we would go there during the day to spend time with other families and walk to the beach which is next door. Overall we liked the resort. My daughter and I prefer a little more resort amenities, though my wife prefers the simple and non-commercial style at Captain Olivers. One note that is not the fault of the resort: mosquitos. Make sure you bring protection of some sort b/c they are a nuisance at the resort in the rooms and in the reception area where you'll find free wi-fi for hotel guests. Good luck and enjoy! Lisateave

The hotel is located on the east coast of the island on the French/Dutch border. There are amazing water views available. Overall the hotel is fine. It def needs to be updated, but if you aren't looking for luxury it is great for the price. Each room has a private entrance. Our first room smelled moldy and the bathroom was too gross. They moved us into […] a different room that was in much better condition. Again not luxurious but clean. We didn't want to spend lots on the room bc we wanted to be able to spend our money experiencing the island. And we did! Zip lining at Loterie Farm, horseback riding at le galion, and delicious French dinners in Grand Case. Lisateave

Quaint, secluded and peaceful. Excellent buffet breakfast. Very pleasant spot with a laid-back atmosphere.

A real throw back in "Island" vacationing. The views of the Ocean view rooms are absolutely beautiful! The front desk personal are very helpful. The food is very good at the hotel, and there is plenty of fine food nearby. It is very quiet and European. We found the only down side to be that their WIFI is slow and hard to access. It is not a 5 star spa/resort, […] but we would stay there over and over again. It's a good value for the money! Lisateave

Captain Oliver's is a marvelous hotel for pure relaxation. Our room had a splendid ocean view, and the small private beach was just a few steps away. The food at the Restaurant was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the authentic French cuisine at Quai West. This the place for people who do not want a wild scene, loud music, or a noisome casino.

The room smelled like dead fish, we could not and did not stay there. We had to find another hotel to stay at. They were very good at helping us do this however.

The hotel sits on the Atlantic side and has a lovely view of St. Barts in the distance. It is not on a beach but has transportation to Dawn Beach. It is difficult to find.

Rooms are clean, people are friendly, but the beds are uncomfortable - two twins instead of queen or king. TV all in French. Breakfast was mediocre. Good for one night if you are sailing out the next day or moving on to another resort, but I would not want to stay more than that.

The room was a good size with a nice view during the day but smelled like a lobster party was held in the room. The shower head keep on falling down the bathroom is in need of major updating, the bed was rock hard but some like that I did not. The staff very helpful. If you plan on watching any TV forget about it , only one HBO channel and the same […] show kept on repeating. There are three or four eateries in the area along with the Dingy dock bar/restraurant which is a nice place to have a drink after running around all day. The ribs are very good there as is the staff. I recommend walking to the French grocery and stocking up on water and snacks, they also serve a nice breakfast. Wifi was only avalabal in the lobby. Would I stay there again? Most likely not unless some major updating was performed. I had breakfast at the main restraurant one morning, what was left was burnt pancakes, powered runnie eggs and no coffey not much else, the staft never came to my table to ask if i needed anything they were to busy talki g to each other and was charged $18.00 not worth it all. When the island is this small, it's kind of nice to be a bit off the beaten track. Captain Oliver's is like a series of little buildings nestled into a continuous garden. Attractively laid out and spacious, it also boasts a fine restaurant on the water that is quite good and reasonable (for the island). Service is the best part - very very good and […] accommodating. Where to start... the Hotel is a shell of its former self. Furniture and facilities are in bad repair, and the location itself is terrible if you plan on going out at night, because the Oyster Pond is deader than William the Conqueror. The advertised facilities are either substandard (the pool's water is bathtub-temperature) or plain don't work (like […] the internet). BUT, we could have lived with all of that, because the rates were exceptional (thanks in part to a hotels.com offer) and so were the views from the (actually pretty nice) rooms. However, what we couldn't live with was the absolutely appalling customer service. St Martin was hit by Hurricane Earl during our stay (sort of) so we expected some setbacks. What we didn't expect was that the hotel would lose its power for 2 FULL DAYS - and not have a backup generator sufficient to bring at least basic power to the rooms. This in a self-styled 4-star hotel, while across the bay, just 200 yards away, we could see other hotels with all their power on, working merrily away. For 2 days, we sat in the dark with the storm blinds locked, sweltering in the humid heat, and enjoyed the contents of the hotel's "hurricane survival kit": a toy "The Incredibles" flashlight with no spare batteries, 2 bottles of water, 2 apples, 2 bananas, 2 packets of biscuits, some crackers and some cheese spread. This for 2 guys, one of which is 6'2'' and weighs 180lbs, and the other of which is 6'5'' and weighs 220lbs, for 2 days. Within 4 hours the batteries of the toy flashlight were flat and we had no food. We stayed like that for 2 days, in the dark, reading by using the light from our cell phones to light up the pages of our books. We were never contacted by hotel staff during this time, because they weren't there. At the end of the second day of confinement, in despair we risked the hurricane and drove around the bay to the nearest hotel for a meal. Fading hotel with a great restaurant- often feels like the restaurant is the point. Some fixtures were broken- crack in the toilet, tiles were cracked, bathroom door was broken, air conditioning was too weak to control the room's climate. That said, the restaurant is *outstanding*- not a bad meal in the place, and the bar is excellent, as well. Overall, […] not a bad hotel- out of the way (rent a car, don't rely on taxis) and okay if you're looking to be far from the action to relax. Lisateave

If you are sailing, it is a good place to stay at the beginning or end of your turn. Otherwise it is hard to get around.

Captain Oliver's is a great place for adults to relax for a couple of days. The property is built on a hillside, at the entrance to Oyster Pond, a natural harbor. Our ocean view room was terrific, I don't know about other accommodations. There is a small marina with sailboats available for charter. The restaurant did a satisfactory job with the breakfast […] buffet, which was included in our room rate. Oyster Pond is a more secluded area, you'll need a car to get to touristy shopping and activities... if you really want to do nothing but rest and recharge, this is the place for you! Lisateave

What they don't tell about Captain Olvier's is that there's no decent transportation in or out of the area. St. Maartin/martin has a rather decent transit system, but it seems that the hotels in the area have a deal in which the only place on the island they don't go is around Oyster pond and either you have to rent a car at around $30 a day, or you […] have to take a taxi and pay twice as much just to get to the ATM machine. Also, since it was not high season, most of the emenities were unavailable. Lisateave

Hotel was very clean and spacious. Other than the fact that there were no American electrical outlets it was great! Prices for their restaurant were kind of deceiving as it stated $45 for Sunday Lobster Buffet but charged us in Euros which was clearly not stated.

hôtel très bien situé avec de belles plages pas très loin, le restaurant est d' un très bon niveau; excellent accueil par le personnel de la réception.

Bon rapport Qualité Prix Situé dans un des endroits encore préservé de Saint Martin Accueil et convivialité satisfaisants

Superbement situé, accueil très sympa, restaurant et buffet d'excellente qualité. Seuls points "noirs": vetusté des salles de bains et robineterie.

Nice small hotel with great breakfast. Loaction is a small minus, but if you rent a car, that is no problem. And if you would like to have a view or balcony you should reserve a room with ocean view.
