I would not hesitate to recommend the Oxford Hotel to anyone planning a visit to the capital where the basics are delivered to such a high standard. Convenient location. Close by to Lancaster Gate tube station. Desk clerk very helpful in pointing out local restaurants, of which their were many types within easy walking distance. Room was small, but had a nice little refrigerator. Also real glasses, mugs, small plates and flatware. This was an old building but you had everything you wanted.The room was very clean and the bed was very good. Had a great nights sleep. The young Mexican boy that works there was very nice and friendly. Location was good and lots of nice restaurants and pubs close by. Great for the money and would stay again any time.

I had a room on the ground floor with newer windows overlooking an inner courtyard, there was really no external noise once the windows were closed! Yeah so the carpet is a bit worn, but the radiator worked, shower stall was always clean (no grubby shower tiles unlike another more expensive hotel) and WC smelt of bleach every day which I took to be […] a good sign. Microwave, fridge, kettle with tea and coffee. My second room had the more comfortable bed of the 2 rooms I stayed in (the first was noisier overlooking the road and had beds that you could feel all the springs in but was a bigger room). On my last night I got the "best roast duck in the world" as takeout from Four Seasons, and a bottle of Prosecco from Sainsbury Local and had a grand supper to celebrate all the money I saved, compared to staying in hotels that were 1.5x the price and half the value. Booked this hotel with a friend, purely because the price was good. When we arrived at first the hotel seemed a bit old, with a very narrow winding staircase (very glad i didnt take a suitcase) but the more we looked the more it felt like a gorgeous old English house. The ensuite was very small but clean. the room was lovely but it was winter and the […] heating was only on at night and they opened the windows when the rooms were serviced so we got back to a very cold room in the afternoon. Then the heating came on after dinner and heated the room way too much, we had to open the window to try to cool it so we could sleep and then it switched off in the morning so we woke up cold. Not ideal! Breakfast was simple - just cereal, rolls and croissants with instant coffee or tea and juice. Overall it was a nice hotel and I would look at staying there again. Lisateave

If we hadn't prepaid the room in full, we would have checked out after the first night and moved to a different hotel. The primary problem was that the room was not clean. Visible dirt and dust along the floorboards, the top of the door to the room was caked in dust, the carpets in the room were worn and looked like they had not been cleaned in a while. […] Same goes for the comforter. The pillows were tiny, and the linens were practically see-through. There were grease stains on the headboard above the bed from the hands, hair and heads of prior guests. Gross. The hotel had free wi-fi, but the signal was so weak that some devices couldn't even pick it up in our room on the ground floor. The registration from the password you get at the front desk expires after 180 minutes, requiring you to keep going back to get new codes. This was especially a problem at night, as no is one at the desk from midnight to 8am. Breakfast: There were stale cornflakes, un-refrigerated milk, a bare selection of instant coffee and tea, and two kinds of bread with butter and jelly. There was something masquerading as orange juice, but it was made from a powder mix; it tasted like water and food coloring. There was a sign offering hot breakfast for 4 pounds, maybe they were trying to get people to buy that. We knew to expect that the room and bathroom would be small, which is standard for Europe. Room 21, 5 nights stay. The location of this hotel is good (near Lancatser gate underground station approximately 200 metre). The room was clean and good decoratoion. TV was quite small (14inc). The staff was helpful and good service. The overview was good but I was alittle bit disappoint about the breakfast. There was not full breakfast, there was […] only cereal, milk, bread, orange juice, tea and coffee. The other disappointment was I stay for 5 nights in this hotel and I did not want to clean the room everyday bcause I was late sleeping in the night. I already told the staff that do not need to clean my room everyday but the hotel require to clean my room evryday. Fairly close to the Paddington Train Station. If you don't have a lot of luggage to pull, it is an easy walk. The room was quite large, beds comfortable...but old windows and they rattled a little in the night. I took curtain tieback and squished them between small gap in the sash-windows and then everything was fine.... we were on the third floor which […] is about 100 steps up a pretty narrow staircase. Other than that we we happy with our choice. Bonus was we arrived at 10a.m. and our room was ready. ....if not, the staff was happy to store the luggage while we went out to explore. If you're coming in from Heathrow terminal 1 or 3 we took the Heathrow CONNECT it is half the price of the EXPRESS and takes only 10-15 minutes longer and goes direct to Paddington with about 5 stops and it is a cleaner and faster train then the regional that takes twice as long and is crowded. If you're spending only a day in London between flights the Travel Card was nice for hopping on and off trains and buses all day... we actually didn't know about the Heathrow Connect and purchased the Travel Card at the airport near the regional train which got us into London, with many stops and one transfer at Earls Court, and used the card all day. So in the long run we saved about 20pounds on our way into town and had a fun day with no other worries of purchasing tokens/bus fare/underground tickets. Lisateave

The condition of the room was deplorable. First and foremost, they promised free wireless internet but it was only available on the lower two floors. As I my room was on the 4th floor, there was absolutely no wireless internet - not even a signal! When I asked to be put into a room on the lower two floors so that I can access the internet, they said […] they were sold out. So I ended up sitting in the small tiny lobby of the hotel all night in order to use the internet. The rooms were also filthy, carpets soiled and the bathroom door was old and broken. The blankets were stained and dirt - please attached photos. I chose these hotel because they had 90 over reviews and were rated 3.7 out of 5. I now wonder how did those ratings came about. You need to have a recommendation that says "depends" ... because if you went there expecting the equivalent of a US 3-star hotel - it would be disappointing but if you consider the location and bang for your buck... then it is a decent deal. Staff great, very friendly and informative. Fantastic value for money. All round value for singles, couples and families should be able to afford a place to stay inside London. We had a family of 4 adults (parents plus almost 20 year old and 18 year old) which had affordable and very pleasing accommodation for our 4 night stay in London.

Pretty much what we expected. Older hotel. No elevator. No frills. Family room was surprisingly large. Location is good--about 4 blocks from Tube. My only complaint was the meager breakfast--hot water for tea/instant coffee, airline-quality croissants and cereal. If you are looking for a cheap hotel in a good area, this is a decent one.

The hotel was very well located and not very expensive. However, the overall state was bordering on shabby, the bedding was washed but had permanent stains that looked very unappealing. The room was a good size for a family of four and was good over all apart from the hot tap in the basin moved and some of the plugs didn't work. The corridors badly needed airing as the were very musty. The breakfast really was minimal and the communal toilet wasn't in a very good state at all. Overall was ok for somewhere to put your head.

There was no table in the room, though they did let me 'borrow' one from the restaurant. WiFi was free but unusable, and being in the basement I had no wireless signal either. After reading mixed reviews on this hotel we went with nervousness. We were pleasantly surprised. Very dated, but very clean. Can't fault cleanliness or comfort of the room. Quiet, close to public transport, friendly and in an excellent area. This hotel is a great deal for travellers not worried about a high level of comfort. The Oxford is a great deal -- the price is one of the lowest in that neighborhood -- where you can walk less than 10 minutes to Paddington. We stayed there, instead of a Heathrow Hotel, and frankly this is more convenient (walk to Paddington then take the Heathrow Connect or Express to LHR) than is the Hotel Hoppa at LHR. I always tries to stay at the Oxford Hotel while I visit London. It's a nice budget hotel with nice staff and clean rooms. This was a good location, but very little money is being spent on this hotel and it shows. While the room is passable but shabby (dirty bedspreads), the breakfast was appalling. Coffee was instant sachets that one had to sprinkle into a cup oneself and pour on water (milk in little cartons). The orange juice was orange squash and very weak. The size of the room was of my closet at home. Hard mattress. Sheets not long enough to cover the entire length of the bed. I am sorry but the bathroom was so small I was practically hitting the door with my knees (I am 5'9"). TV set looked like somebody found it discarded in the streets. Breakfast consisted of stale, 2 days old croissants, jams, cheese […] and instant coffee.
