This hotel is old. The people are nice, the food is pretty good, but the property is in dire need of renovation (not refurbishing). Old windows in the dark rooms were dirty and the noise levels were high. We moved from an ocean view room to a mountain view room to get some peace and quiet and ended up listening to a very loud service elevator all night […] (it took 3 calls to turn it off). The exhaust fan from the snack bar rattled all day long. The staff liked to yell in the microphone while blasting music and the spa employees were very agressive. we were not happy with the pillows on a king size bed. They had 4 small pillows you need to increase the size of the pillow to at least a standard and have more cushion to them.

A 4 star hotell that serves jamaican chiken and rise at their japanese restaurant. No wonder I newe saw anny there. Many of the staf was rude and the maids "forgot" to servise my room. Te mini bar was suposed to be restocked every day whith soft drinks. This only happend to me once in 4 days. They have 2 pools but non of them are heated so noboddy used […] them including me. My hole wisit turned real sour when I went to the reseption to chek out and they claim I have a bill from the store on 27 dollar. This was not truh since I allways payd whit my creditcard in trheir store. To clear this out took some time. So do yourself a fawor and chek your bill beafore you leave.MM Lisateave

Bus ride to the hotel took as long as it did for our to fight from Atlanta to Jamaica! Then we arrived after 6 and the person that was to meet with us and talk with us had already left for the day! Truly loved the room on the ocean side and the bed was wonderful!! No problem sleeping!!

I traveled solo and had a great time. It's adult only and there are couples but it's not super focused on being a couples-resort, so good for singles, friends, siblings, whatever. Beach is a bit on the small side, but I never had a problem getting my spot or getting towels. Special points go to Garnet - THE MAN - bartender at the East Lawn pool bar. Just the best. You can be as social as you want to be or not social at all...both are fine. Pretty sure this is one of the better hotels in ocho rios..... Smaller than some but that's what we liked. Very well maintained, clean, very nice rooms just like in the website. Food was not bad for all inclusive. Go to the platinum rest. That was the best food, but pack long pants, collard shirt and closed toe shoes for men, it's required at platinum […] only. Do ala carte for breakfast at coral cafe, it's actually better than the buffet. They have great security on the premises, staff are friendly even when they don't receive tips. Bring one dollar bills to tip, the staff deserve it. Very well managed hotel, will def come back! I got jamaican money at the airport there but didn't really need it. if you plan on a shopping excursion i was told jamaican money is a better value but they take dollars too. And, for those who want to go topless, you can here....no one seemed bothered by the few that did. The only downside was the long bus ride to hotel. From landing to hotel it was 3-4 hours.... Absolutely loved this hotel. It's not new, but has been renovated. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful from the entertainment staff to the bartenders to the restaurant staff and everyone in between. The view from the Sapphire ocean view was remarkable. The beach, while not huge, was plenty big enough and never crowded. The water sparkling clear, […] and the entire grounds were amazingly clean and well kept. The restaurants offered good food. It wasn't all amazing, but it was very good in most instances, especially some of the local fare offered in the buffet at every meal. We never waited for a drink or a table, always had plenty of open chairs poolside and on the beach. There were plenty of activities throughout the day for anyone that wanted to partake, or you could simply shut off your mind and relax in the terrific sunshine. BEAUTIFUL!.. The staff is so great and fun to be around. I hung out t the bar that's on the beach and the bar tender Damian makes the best drinks and is the coolest guy! He makes the best dirty banana drink... I can't wait to go back.. Loved the Jewel!

This resort is not one of those crazy huge Caribbean resorts. 250 rooms total!! It was a dream No wait at the restaurants or bars......quiet......great food. The resort had so much character. We would definitely go back!!

Absolutely superb. The Jamaican people treat you like you are royalty. They are very friendly, gracious, helpful and thoughtful. The resort was absolutely beautiful. Drinks were outstanding and the food was great. A variety of foods offered; everything included except some select bottles of wine. Disappointing all-inclusive experience. The entertainment staff was very friendly and did a pretty good job at getting the mostly disinterested older folks involved. The bartenders seemed nice, if you tipped, if not service was a little slow. This is a small resort, so if you stay here and the weather is bad, there is very little to do. It also means […] there are very limited choices to get food (the biggest letdown). The Jade restaurant (reservations required), was the only decent sit down meal I had during my week there. The outdoor pizza oven was a pretty good, but it's really just takeout. The poolside grill went from Ok to horrible depending on the cook (jerk sauce was tasty, but no spice). The staff is superb. The entertainment staff including Floyd and The Mayor make you feel like a part of the Jamaican community. All of the staff are warm and friendly. The resort has a more intimiate feel and creates lots of opportunities to meet other guests staying at the resort which was fun. THe spa is nice however the massage I got was great except that it was noisy due to the fact that you could hear people outside of the massage room chatting. The gym is an open air gym with lots of machines and weights and mostly all in good condition. I would definately stay here again but I would upgrade my standard room to a sapphire room. Our room was great but just small. The bathroom was small. There is room service but for a fee. It is not included. Also the minibar is only stocked with juice, water, soda and NO alcohol. Ojaci at the bar was awesome! Not a single problem with the housekeeping! First trip out of 29 all inclusive vacations that nothing goes missing! The spa massage is so worth it! Clayon at the front desk helps you 100% Now the bad... The dining options just get old and repetitive. The buffet needs more options and more carribbean food. The restaurants should vary their menus or rotate them. The breakfast can vary a little too even though there seemed to be more options there. Also there should be at least something extra for when its your birthday or anniversary and you don't want to buy one of those packages. At least a cup cake. I would definitely go back to this resort because I really liked it and it was fun. I recommend it for 4-5 nights. Take lots of dollar bills because the staff truly deserves it! My girlfriend and I stayed for a week, and we enjoyed every second. All of the resturants were delicious and the staff was very friendly. The entertainment crew was extremely fun. One of the only downfalls was the jerk chicken wraps that were served at the aquamariana. On two seperate occasions we found bones in the pieces of chicken. We really enjoyed […] the snorkeling but don't get confused, it only includes snorkeling on the resorts beach. Its an additional cost to go out in a boat but completely worth the money. Some of the bar tenders were in a big hurry to get you drunk but some of them were amazing and helpful. Overall our stay was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone! P.S. My husband and I have stayed in many all inclusives in Jamaica, Dominican and Mexico. This hotel was our favorite by far. The resort is older- not like some of the newer mega-resorts going up, but we loved the size of it. You could walk anywhere on the resort in 5 minutes. We stayed at the RIU next door and it was no fun when you left something back […] in your room and had to walk a mile to go get it. Loved the fact that you didn't need to wear those annoying wrist bracelets at most all-inclusives and you didnt need a towel card to get beach/pool towels. The food was excellent for an all-inclusive- The Jade was our favorite- no problem making reservations. The beach is definitely on the smaller side- but ample room and chairs. We liked the fact that the pools did not close down at 7pm like most resorts. And the pool/piano bar (and swim up bar) was open till 1am!! Our room was extremely clean at all times and the bed was the most comfortable one we have had. The staff was amazing- kudos to Garnett, Sanja & of course the entertainment crew of "The mayor & Happy Feet". We usually like to try a different resort when we travel- but we are definitely going to return here next year! Lisateave

This trip was booked on very short notice and we were just looking for a place to get away and have some time to chill on the beach. Overall this property is OK and the reason I give it a mediocre review is because we were looking for something a bit more romantic and quiet. The mattress was very uncomfortable and the bathroom had a tub and shower instead of a separate bathtub/jacuzzi and shower. The dinner options were disappointing (only 3 sit-down restaurants) and the food was good but never fantastic. The Italian restaurant is the best but the pasta was always overcooked. The breakfast and lunch buffets were very good and it is too bad they do not offer this option for dinner as well. At the pool grill, the jerk wraps were fantastic. They did offer fire grilled pizza until 8:30pm and this was also very good. The bartenders are excellent and the liquor is top shelf but don't expect to find good wine (but you are in Jamaica so rum should be the drink of choice!). I would not recommend this resort for a quiet couples getaway but it would be fun if we were with friends. Staff was friendly and professional. Lisateave

My husband and I honeymooned at this all-inclusive adults-only resort Oct 1 - Oct 6, 2012. We had an amazing time. Food was excellent--pizza or burger practically anytime you want it! Room Service was also very affordable and we were very pleased with the pricing. You definitely got bang for your buck. Resort had activities all day long that you could […] participate in-- a beach party one night, crab races, turtle feeding, etc. We had a great stay, met great people, and the staff was TOP NOTCH. Friendly & hospitable in every way! While tipping is not required, I would recommend travelers to bring some $1's for the bartenders--they make some seriously GOOD drinks. One rum & coke was about 2/3 rum and 1/3 coke--delicious. And they keep 'em coming when you're ready for more! Great pools & swim up bars. The only downside was that the beach was pretty small--but it was still comfortable. Maybe 1/5 mile long? Definitely recommend this place for couples, honeymooners, anniversary-goers, or just to celebrate being a couple. Very romantic & private location & rooms, and very safe environment. When i'm looking for a resort, i first select 4 stars and above, then choose by the ratings given by travelers. Just like you, I've been reading a lot of reviews about this hotel, and boy this place had some great reviews! Well, not all of it were true. I think it's really important that they show WHO writes the reviews. I'm not racist or prejudice […] by any means but, What a 49yr old white lady from Kansas consider DELICIOUS, may not be so delicious for a 33yr Asian guy from Los Angeles like me. And I think that's exactly what happened here. If you think 'sushi' and 'California roll' are the same thing or you do not know what 'hoisin' sauce is then "yes" the so called "Japanese restaurant" at this place will be delicious for you. I'm not saying its awful, but let's just say If they open up this restaurant in LA, it wouldn't last a week. Same goes for the other 2 restaurants. It's not bad, but it's definitely not GREAT as many reviewers said. The pizza is pretty good but growing up from NY, it's certainly not Brooklyn pizza as they claimed. Breakfast and lunch is ONLY available at the buffet, UNLIKE they mentioned, which gets old pretty quick. Although over all the food is okay. Drinks are pretty good, and the entertainment group tries their best to keep you entertained daily, very family-like feel, which I liked. Small resort, I've never seen more than 30 people at one time, which was really nice. My guess it was still probably better than RIU next door. Not AWESOME but NICE Lisateave

Sometimes the staff can be slow to help when you ask for something, but then again, (just by observation) I think that most Jamaican people take their time to complete any task. My husband and I spent a wonder week at the Jewel in September 2012. I was very concerned about traveling to Jamaica during Hurricaine season. We were very lucky! We went and it was Sunny and 90 degrees all 7 days! From the minute we got to the Jewel the relazxing and fun began and continued until we left. The only minor issue we had was that the room […] keys they gave us a check in didn't work. The bell man ran back to the lobby and the 2nd set of keys didn't work either. They then ended up upgrading us for the trouble. We were very excited for the upgrade and the way the staff handled the unfortinate situation. The pool and ocean were amazing and just what we were looking for. The whole staff did an awesome job. A special shout out to Kevin (from moonstone/pier dinner/ beach dinner) outstanding service all three nights! He deserves to be promoted. Also Maurice and OJ for all the wonderful drinks at the swim up bar. The entertainment staff was fun up beat and kept the fun times coming! The Jewel Dunn's River Resort & Spa was a great choice for my boyfriend and I, who were both were looking for a relaxing yet interesting vacation. From the first step off the shuttle, we were greeted with smiles from the host and bellhops who took our baggage and gave us some sort of delicious drink and refrigerated towels to cool off. Our room was […] more than spacious which included a king-sized bed, small walk-in closet and private balcony. I was able to easily call down to the front desk to ask questions a couple of times (one call was actually for a plumber after my boyfriend... well, let's not go there. The point is, the plumber showed up and had everything fixed within 15 minutes!) All of the food is great and the jerk chicken and pork is particularly fantastic (hence the need for the plumber). The bars have all kinds of shelf liquor, including Absolut, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Capt Morgan, etc. If you're adventurous, there's tons of free water activities - and the one's you do have to pay for are pretty affordable. Snorkeling was $20 per person for an hour - we took a short boat trip a few miles off shore and got to see sea urchins, flounders, anenomies, and feed the tropical fish under water with bits of bread stuffed in soda bottles. All in all it was a great trip, and I highly recommend this resort if you're considering visiting Montego Bay/Ocho Rios! Lisateave

This is actually the second time my cousin and i stayed here. We are both single females and though it seems more like a couples resort the staff is so wonderful we came back anyway. If something wasn't the way it was suppose to be with a call to the front desk it was immediately addressed. My wife and I had a great time! One of the best vacations that we have ever taken and we travel a lot. The best part of this resort is the staff. They have a full time entertainment team that actually live on the resort property that did an excellent job in making our stay fun and memorable. We also did the Jewel Dunn's Water Fall excursion with snorkeling […] and the catamaran. It was a great time and a great deal for all that was involved, but prepare to get soaked going up the falls! We also got a taxi one day and went to Scotchie's for authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Pork which was excellent and then went to downtown Ocho Rios to do some shopping. I would skip going downtown for shopping. Lots of high pressure sales for nothing but a bunch of crap that you can buy at the resort or the airport. Overall, a great experience! I would definitely suggest going if you haven't been to Jamaica before and this is a great resort to stay at. Remember to bring money for tips (American Dollars work everywhere in the country, so no reason to exchange. The exchanges will rip you off anyway). Jamaica is a very poor country as you'll surely see on the drive to the resort (which did take around 2 hours from the airport, but wasn't too bad), so every dollar you tip goes a long way in helping the people who work on the resort. Overall, a great time for a great price and I definitely recommend going. Lisateave

This was our belated honeymoon.It was so awesome!!No teenagers or babies to deal with. On Tuesday night they have the 'beach party' which includes dinner on the beach with a band, entertainer, snake handler, flame thrower and dancers. It was so much fun!!! Also on Friday nights is dinner on the peir. Be sure to take an 11:00am tour #they have them everyday# or you miss all the free things that come with your reservation.This is EXACTLY what I hoped it would be for our honeymoon. The place's pictures are deceiving - It looks really nice - And when you arrive the opening and lobby are - then you go thru the different areas and the wood is old and the tile's grout is coming out and the place really is run down and needs updating....
