Hotel San Francesco Al Monte - Naples

Stayed at the hotel from the 25th -28th March 2012. Transport to hotel arranged by hotel reception-Picked up efficiently from the airport by chaffeur ..took back by standard taxi -a third of the price. We were allocated room 69 on 6th floor- room like official pictures. We had an amazing view of the bay of Naples! Lovely clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom […] clean and well equiped with jaccuzzi shower and hose style hairdryer. Soap, shower gel and shampoo provided. Towels a good size and changed every day. T.V in cupboard on outside wall. Breakfast varied and fresh with cereals, breads cheese, meats yoghurts and fruits. I didn't try the eggs and frankfhurters. Coffee comes as requested . Restaurant VERY expensive ( cost us 120 euro two courses bottle of wine and bottled water)but food was nice-wonderful view ! 6 Euro for a standard glass of prosecco). Elevator an experience- As you get past fourth floor it is glass fronted and you feel like you are in the Charlie and the Chocolate factory elevator. The hotel is located at the edge of a nice neighbourhood but near to a not so nice one. We used the funicular railway located uphill and the metro located down hill-Great in the day time but frightening 10 p.m. Everything seems to close down! We took taxis which cost 9 euro centrally . All in all we had a great stay and would stay again Lisateave

Perfect for a weekend trip, not too far from the sights of Napoli and with a great view overlooking the city. The service, comfort and breakfast are all good, not superb.

We stayed here just one night before an early flight. Having stayed in Naples before for travel and knowing it can be a bit intimidating down town, we looked for somewhere a bit out of the center but not too far from the Airport (30 mins at 0900 - not bad) but somewhere still interesting. The hotel is amazing, an old cloister on the Monte with views […] of the harbour and Mt. V, with hidden passages cut into the rock, a chapel and losts of interesting rooms to explore (silly but -we played tomb raider around the place before dinner). They also have a great roof top terrace, shame it was out of season but the pool still looked inviting. The only down side was the dinner and drinks prices. I was baffled over the cost of the smallest 2 fingers of campari soda that I'd ever had, compared to the biggest glass of wine ever (literally a third of a bottle) which cost half as much. The same seemed true of comparative dinner options. That said, restaurant staff were charming and made our evening special. We will stay here again when in Naples. Lisateave

Hotel was fabulous! Naples was HORRIBLE, but not the hotels fault. If you have to visit Naples, this is the place to stay.

This is a great property if you are trying to balance children and taking in the city. It has a pool and restaurant so you don't have to venture out in case of tantrums. The restaurant has a spectacular view, as do the rooms. The reception service was a little spotty. A hotel at this level should require at least one person at the desk to know fluent […] English, but that was not the case twice. The other plus point is a reliable A/C system, which is becoming increasingly important even in May in the city. Lisateave

I quite liked this place - despite its failings. At first glance, this hotel ticks all the boxes; opulence, history, character, views (terraces overlooking the bay), 7th floor swimming pool with grotto into the cliff, quality restaurant, spacious rooms, often with jacuzzi facilities... However, when you look a little closer, you'll find many faults. […] The air-conditioning can only be lowered to 19 degrees, too warm in high summer. The fridge in our first room did not work and was not repaired while we were there. On the third night of four, the aircon broke down on our floor (no sleep) so for our final night we moved to another room. The aircon there blew in the middle of the night taking down the aircon on the whole floor. Eventually i reset the fuses in the service room at the end of the corridor as nobody responded to our phone calls to reception for help. The lightbulb next to the bed in our second room never fully turned out when switched off. It just sort of buzzed and glowed. (I suspect a link to the aircon problems.) Breakfast only starts at "07h00" (no good for early departure), though in fact the croissants and pastries rarely arrive before 07h30. The swimming pool (gorgeous) only opens at 9 and closes at 5, so don't expect an evening by the pool or an early morning dip. The immediate area of the hotel will freak you out unless you are a hardened urban traveller. It is massively run down, with derelict and crumbling buildings, incredibly dirty and does not feel at all safe (though it largely is safe as far as we found). Indside the hotel, the fittings need some maintenance and repair. and a coat of paint would be nice. Our mini bar had no price list (turned out to be €5 for a mars bar) and the contents not consistent in all rooms. On the positive side, the hotel has great character, the beds though old were very comfortable, the staff were generally very helpful, the view from the breakfast terrace was really good, from the pool terrace even better and the p Lisateave

This hotel is remarkable and intriguing as it retains a lot of character from its distant past evident in its many cell-like rooms that although comfortable are in need of decorative rennovation and better sound insulation. On arrival we were shown a room where plaster from the ceiling had fallen in the bath. We were immediately offered another room […] that was fine but the receptionist did admit later that two other rooms were also found to be in a similar condition. Windows are small but offer grand views over the city and harbour. The swimming pool and terrace area are havens on a hot summer day but the pool bar closes at 4.30pm which is too early. Food in the restaurant is excellent, but very expensive and getting a simple snack is impossible. Service from the staff is friendly and polite. Special mention must go to receptionist Guido who answered all our questions about the area and even recommended us to his grandmother's favourite trattoria. If you don't have access to a car then getting around requires. Overall, the hotel is very worth the stay if only for being a one-off in design as well as character, but if you're looking for modern reliability and convenience, try something closer to the port area. A beautiful hotel based in an old monastery and set back in a cliff overlooking Naples. A great view over Naples and the the bay from all of the rooms the Terrace bar and restuarant and the rooftop pool and lounge area. Only fifteen minute walk to the centre of town.

Parfait : une seule chose à dire sans grande importance : quel dommage qu'une salade de fruits frais de soit pas proposée au buffet du petit-déjeuner !

Hotel plein de charme avec une vue imprenable sur la baie de Naples .... Chambre spacieuse et tres confortable , magnifique terasse qui surplombe la ville .... Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas un bar à la hauteur !!!

Nice roof top pool but the fogginess of the water wasn't inviting, and the waiters somewhat slow and forgetful. The restaurant has a beautiful panoramic view over the Neaples bay with the Vesuvius in the far distance. Food served was nice and met the hotel standard.

Vi hade en fantastisk upplevelse av detta hotell! Utsikten var förträfflig! En stor behållning var poolen på takterrassen eftersom badstränderna är få och inte ligger i direkt anslutning till staden. Servicen var underbar och frukosten intogs på takterrassen med vulkanen och stadens alla hustak som utsikt. Likaså kan man beundra detta scenario från […] hotellrummens fönster. Hotellet ligger högt beläget, vill man inte promenera upp och ner för dessa branta gator kan man alternativt åka den sk. funicolaren som tar en upp och ner till stadens kärna där stationen ligger precis runt knuten av detta fantastiska boende. Bel hotel et bel emplacement. Vues splendides depuis les chambres et la terrasse. Situation trés calme dans une ville animée et tumulteuse. A recommander.

Albergo particolare, suggestivo, sia per l'immobile sia per la vista sulla città e il golfo, personale gentile, letti comodi bagni molto belli, un meritato 4 stelle.

Une établissement splendide (architecture, décoration), des chambres spacieuses avec une vue magnifique sur la ville (dont on peut aussi profiter sur une terrasse arborée, fleurie, confortable et pourvue d'une piscine), et par dessous tout un personnel extrêmement serviable et sympathique... Un accès rapide au centre ville à pied ou en funiculaire. […] Un petit déjeuner varié. Lisateave

L emplacement et la vue sont les grands atouts e l'hotel. La vue sur Naple et le vésuve sont fantastique En pls j avais une très grande terrasse. LA piscine et le jardin sont aussi très agréable. Par contre les chambressont très décevante, clim asthmatique, douche massante fonctionnant mal, propreté moyenne de la salle de bain et housse d'oreiller déchiré, […] mobilier des parties commuhes en mauvais état. Bon service cependant, maisquel dommage qu cela ne oit pas en meilleurs état Lisateave

Smukt renoveret tidligere kloster tæt på Napoli lufthavn og inden for gåafstand af den gamle by og de vigtigste seværdigheder. Værelserne er ikke de største, men tingene virker, som de skal. Flot udsigt til Vesuv og Napolibugten fra restauranterne og tagetagen. God morgenbuffett. Serviceminded personale. Ingen parkeringspladser.

Der Start war mittelmässig, unser erstes Zimmer im 1. Stock wurde uns offensichtlich ungereinigt übergeben, nach einer Beschwerde am Empfang wurde uns aber sofort ein anderes Zimmer angeboten. Von da wars einfach nur toll, der Service im Hotel und dem dazugehörigen Restaurant war super, und der Pool und die Aussicht auf dem Dach ist einfach nur gen […] ial. Lisateave

The hotel has a potential, the building is great, the atmosphere might be wonderful, but... The noise from the main street is intolerable. I was unlucky to get a room close to the street even though there were only a few guests. The garden is lovely but unfortunately there was a lot of garbage laying around, it was shocking and made a very bad impression. […] The refrigerator in the mini bar was not working. Nice to have drinks for free, we helped ourselves to two warm beers, but I would rather have a nice collection of local wines and pay for them, to be honest. The internet connection did not work. It was a big disappointment. Breakfast terrace with a spectacular view and helpful waiters was the only asset. Overall impression: definitely overpriced, the quality is 3 star not 4 star. The website of the hotel promises a lot but the reality is rather shabby. The cleaning equipe on Sunday arrived at 5 pm so we thanked very much and resigned of having the room done. The staff is friendly, one of the guys from the reception hurried outside with an umbrella because it was raining and I did appreciate his reaction. Lisateave

le charme de ce beau bâtiment ancien, qui domine Naples, avec sa terrasse au 7e étage, son ancienne chapelle... Le double vitrage, la clim et les volets intérieurs protègent efficacement du bruit et de la chaleur. Notre chambre "standard" était grande, propre, jolie, avec du carrelage au sol, ce que j'apprécie beaucoup. Contraste avec la crasse de la […] partie intérieure de la porte de la salle de bain ! Le lit très bon, le petit déjeuner copieux et les serveurs stylés et aimables. Regrettons l'absence d'un restau "sans façon" dans l'hôtel, car on n'a pas toujours le courage de redescendre au centre pour le repas du soir (peu de restaurants dans le quartier proche), et le restaurant situé dans l'hôtel est "sélect" et cher. Les funiculaires sont à deux pas, et c'est heureux car l'hôtel est en contre-haut du quartier espagnol, déjà sis sur le piémont de la colline qui culmine avec le chateau St Elmo. on parle français et anglais et on vend des timbres à la réception.
