I stayed at shosrt notice at the Pensione Hotel, Melbourne. My small room was very clean and quiet. My bed was clean and comfortable.

I stayed at Pensione for 2 nights with 5 other friends. The service was impeccable. The staff were helpful, accommodating and friendly. The rooms were small but clean and decent. Location is a bit far from the shopping district but accessible by tram. The proximity to Crown and DFO southbank is a plus. Pensione Hotel in Spencer St. has excellent location opposite train station. Arrived after flying for two days and they arranged for us to be able to check in at 10 am instead of waiting til 2pm. Quiet and cosy with excellent reception.

The room (double standard) is very very small!! way too uncomfortable even for just one person, let alone two. At the moment (April 2011) they are doing renovations to Spencer Street and so the view is horrible outside of the hotel, apart from the loud constant noise. Considering this, and the fact that we stayed a few days before at a similar rated […] hotel in the same area, without any construction works, much more comfortable rooms, and at a lower rate, this room at Pensione seemed very overpriced. Their café was really nice and reasonably priced though. The receptionists were nice and quick. The hotel facilities seemed very clean. less than two blocks from the Southern Cross train station, and on several trams, this is a very desirable location. The room was fine, and the service of the hotel staff was exceptional (the desk clerk spent much time helping me make reservations at a hotel in Sydney).

I arrived around 1100 am and wasn't able to check in early due to a late check out of the room but I was thrilled to find out that I was upgraded to the courtyard suite after only booking a standard double. The room was a bit noisy during the day as its located right next to the luggage storage rooms and lifts but night was fine. The carpets and some […] of the grout in the shower area were stained but clean. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for its front desk service, close proximity to Southern Cross station and rooms(especially the couryard garden suite). Great place! Lisateave

The bed was short (1.5m/5') and the bathroom was small, but all in good condition and comfortable. Location halfway between Southern Cross and Flinders Street Station is excellent for convenience.

The location is perfect, so close to restaurants and public transport. The room was small, but we couldn't complain because it was such a good price. Next time I would like to pay a bit extra and try a bigger better room. We had a very enjoyable stay regardless.

I was not happy in my 3 days stay that I did not receive more than 1 lot of toilet requisites. I alos had to ask for extra milk on a couple of ocassions. The room was rather small and the date on the clock was incorrect and not fixed correctly when I sought assistance. Apart from having to pay for wi-fi it's difficult to fault this hotel. It has a great location, it's been well-reburbished with stylish rooms, the staff are friendly and helpful and it's very affordable.

I chose a orignal double room in the hotel. Everything was alright except that my room was on the ground floor and there is no window; (even though there was a skylight on top of the ceiling, I still prefer a proper window.) And I couldn't find the remote control for the TV which it wasn't very convenience.

Very convenient location and surprisingly quiet. Look forward to returning.

Good location, good price. We needed an inexpensive place that wasn't too cheap. Pension was fine.

Good hotel for those on a budget although the rooms are quite cosy - dont take too much stuff! Good happy hour and very close to transport hub so a good place from which to get around Melbourne.

The Hotel overall was great we had one complaint that our room was right next to the reception door that slammed when shut so we didnt get a very good sleep every night we were there.

Pensione Hotel in Melbourne is on Spencer street close to Southern Cross and the airport bus terminal and the room would be fine for a short overnight stop on arrival or departure. The petite double had a comfortable bed, good linen and towels and small modern shower bathroom with the smallest sink I have seen - though you could wash your hands over […] it, though brushing teeth, washing face etc was more difficult. The shower was ok. An advantage of the petite double was that windows opened onto a small internal transparent covered atrium which meant that the external road and evening social noise was much less that it would have been otherwise and peppermint/herbal tea supplied!. Overall comfortable safe hotel and room in an city terminal location with a downstairs cafe and bar - but bathroom could be a problem for a person with a large body frame - as the "petite" term suggests. It's actually 50-50 cos the room was clean and comfortable but the toilet was really small and it was hard to wash hands/brush teeth without having water splashed all over Reception staff was otherwise friendly and approachable

its worth the dollar u spent on. the staff made u feel at home. i was happy everytime i saw samir at the reception as he has loads of information u can ask for the other staff are good too for improvement, a shower curtain would be good for the 'petite double room'

Small but very welcoming hotel, staff were extremely helpful, especially when helping me locate my lost luggage. Cafe was of high quality and food extremely tasty. Prices on a par with the high street for breakfast. Hotel was thoroughly cleaned daily including rooms. Hotel roof terrace was a very pleasant retreat from the bustle of the city. the location was reallly good, I could use free tram to get to the hotel. also to the air port shuttle, I can just walk under 10 mins. room was clean, but noise was not clearly blocked.

Think many times before staying there even though it is not expensive. It is very close to a train station and the neighborhood at night is not really safe, especially for women. There are many bars around and you can find drunken men at every corner. The rooms are so small that there is no space for a decent size suitcase. The sink on photo looks very […] modern but it is so small no one can use it. The bath door does not close - it is more like a screen than a door. Also a noise, a stuff that does not offer any help, TV that does not work and you get the picture. Stay away if you can. Lisateave

First room we got was very small, second one a lot bigger but both had very very small bathrooms. Almost impossible to take a shower without getting everything wet in the bathroom. Sink´s size hardly bigger than a A4 sheet of paper.

If Original Double rooms are available choose them. They are much larger than the other rooms.

Very pleasant little hotel. Hotel made some minor errors but more than compensated by upgrade and free breakfasts :) I was attending conference in Melbourne and this hotel was perfect for location and also great value for money

Good value for an hotel near the CDB.

The hotel was great, awesome location (close to Spencer Street Station and trams), but the only downside was the bathroom. The bathroom, although new-ish was VERY small. The shower was so tiny and there was no curtain or door, so the shower would get the rest of the bathroom wet! Getting ready in a bathroom that has a wet floor isn't that fun. Excellent located for travellers arriving in Melbourne via Southern Cross station, this hotel offers more you can expect for this price. Especially to mention: Very friendly staff. The perfect place for people who only want to stay somewhere central without paying too much. I highly recommend this place!!!

This is a basic hotel with some amentities. It has guest laundry, a cafe and a very convienent location. Earlier reviews have complained about the bathrooms. Mine had a normal enclosed shower and was adequate. There are not enough shelves, drawers etc. to actually unpack. The room was roomy enough. Very friendly atmosphere. Cosy.... somewhat too tiny bedrooms and bathrooms. Close to everything. Quiet. Flexible. We checked in at 8.30am and then had the whole day to explore after a cuppa.

I/We rated the hotel quite favourably. The only downside was the lack of a chair(s) & a TV that struggled with reception on Channel 7. Otherwise good!

a HUGE bed dominates the room and the room was basic, but it hd exactly what we needed, a quiet bed near the station. Staff were fine and friendly. Good if you'd rather spend your budget going out and shopping instead of the room.

The hotel is a very short walk right down the street from Southern Cross Station where the airport bus terminal is. It is a short walk from the big Entiad sports stadium, and is convenient to many tram lines serving the entire city, including the two circuit tourist tram and bus lines. There are reasonable restaurants, bars, and convenience shops nearby. […] The room was indeed small with a view of nothing. There is almost no place for large bags and almost no storage space. But there is a fridge and a big flat screen TV and a small desk. Wifi is a good signal at $Aus10 a day or $1AUD per 1/3 hour. Bathroom is functional although doorless shower causes wet floor. So, this is a terrific budget hotel in a major city which is very convenient for tourists and businessmen. It is near several nightspot clubs and bars. They have a nice bar in the hotel.
