I have stayed at ELL before so I knew what to expect, and it didn't disappoint. Was nice to unplug and relax for a night! Before lake and lovely hotel/cabins. My coffee maker didn't work but the heated bathroom tiled floors made up for it :)

This hotel more than fits the bill for some outstanding hiking and scenery but is shy of being a great resort. It was not a bad stay but their website gave us the impression it is more than what it really was. In short our expectations were set high because of thier advertising. The food was priced on the expensive side and had it been great food the […] cost could have been over looked...but the food was not great. Keep in mind ''Cilantro'' is thier highly rated restaurant and it was not yet open for the season. As for the rooms, cozy fireplace but the rest of the room was just OK with a very small bathroom. The grounds offer good scenery but in spots have garbage on them. We were disappointed to look over our deck and see rubbish at the edge of the lake. All in all, go for the scenery and awesome hiking (Emerald Basin) it makes up for the room. For food, eat at Thistle Pig in the town of Field! Lisateave

The lodge is gorgeous. It was disappointing to be given no notification or information prior of the shuttle that takes you to he lodge as your vehicle is not allowed on the premises. The 2 front reception staff we encountered were rude and unwelcoming. The waitresses however were remarkable, happily knowledgeable and very friendly. The food was very […] sub par. Steak cooked so long it tasted boiled (meant to be med rare). Sticky date pudding tough as boots and lacking any flavor, tasted like a packet mix cake that was a week old. Breakfast of Eggs Benedict got sent back and we did not reorder. The hollindaise sauce was chunky, curdled and just revolting. Again, the waitress handled this magically given how disappointed we were. (we later heard from other guests that they had the same issues) The chef needs to undergo some basic professional cookery training. Overall we were very underwhelmed by this resort. We were looking forward to a little R and R in a beautiful country and we left feeling hungry and over the rudeness of the front "service" staff. Lisateave

The parking area is remote from the hotel, which requires a shuttle to transport luggage etc. This created some difficulty if you are planning to do any outside activities (like skiing or snowshoeing) and require the equipment that is otherwise in your vehicle. We had to shuttle several times each day with some delays waiting for a pickup. In one case […] this was 40 minutes! The setting is beautiful however and makes up for some of the inconvenience. We were celebrating a special anniversary and had mentioned this when we booked the hotel. They were kind enough to leave a small tray of crackers, cheese and fruit for us. Some of the fruit was moldy and the crackers were soggy having been placed under cellophane with the fruit. Although a nice gesture, we were disappointed with the quality and the presentation. This hotel could be so much better than it is. Overall, it's getting run down and the service was pretty disappointing for a hotel of this calibre and reputation. The rooms could use a facelift as nothing has changed in almost ten years when I was there last, and small upgrades could really get rid of the run-down-cheap factor that is emerging. For […] example, the bathroom door didn't close properly, the rug was ripped, the shower head was pathetic, and the shower curtain rings were white plastic. Poor. The hot tub and clubhouse were perhaps the most disappointing as far as the facilities go. The clubhouse is run down and DIRTY. In the change rooms there was dust and clumps of hair and dirt in all of the corners. It was disgusting. If you are looking for a fitness room, keep looking. One or two pieces of work out equipment and three random chairs thrown into a room does not make a gym. Clearly no one tested how high the water level would come up when they designed the tub; our upper body was left exposed. It was also kept at a very low temperature. After a day of skiing you want a HOT tub, not a barely warm tub. The food was good; skip the breakfast buffet. Staff was mediocre at best. They lacked refinement, professionalism, and maturity. Overall, a fantastic location and a mediocre hotel. Hopefully they will make some improvements or keep charging less and less to keep things fair and reasonable given its shortcomings. Lisateave

This is a wonderful location with fantastic views and friendly staff. If you are looking to disconnect from the world for a few days this is the place to go. Wifi is available in the lodge and cell service is not availalbe. The perfect hideaway while being only a few minutes to the rest of the world. Quiet and relaxing, we had the hot tub to ourselves many times. Great location, great service, staff for transport back and forth from overnight parking were awesome! Rooms were comfortable and cozy, only complaint was the food in dining, tasted good but please let me leave somewhat full! Very tiny portions for a very high price. I was always hungry […] and i'm not a big guy, bring some extra food with you... Restaurant staff was friendly and did a good job, just high prices even for breakfast. We drove up just to stay one night at the beginning of March 2013--wow, what an amazing place! Pricey but worth it! When you arrive you'll park in a parking lot designated for overnight parking. There is a small heated waiting area to wait while a shuttle comes to pick you up. The driver will then take you up to the main lodge building where you check […] in, then walk to one of many four-suite cabins. We had a Queen room, which was quite small, but very cozy with a wood burning fireplace and balcony. Everything was extremely clean and in perfect shape. We had supper at the restaurant which was expensive ($40 steak) but very good. We didn't check out the other food options. There is only a coffeemaker in the room (no fridge/microwave) so don't bring anything perishable unless you want to keep it in a cooler with ice/snow. We did not come prepared with good shoes or winter gear, but we will next time as there are plenty of outdoor activities to experience (snowshoing, X-country skiing, hiking, etc). DEFINITELY will be going back next year for a weekend, maybe it will be an annual thing! Lisateave

Great place to escape. Not to much to do other than enjoy the outdoors, sit in a hot tub, or enjoy the wood burning fireplace in your room (that is built built for you in the morning, all you need is a match). The food is good but it is expensive and there are no other options unless you take the shuttle to your car and drive 15 min away.

We had a great time at Emerald Lake. We booked late and so only had a double lodge - all was great with the room, meals were a bit pricey but food was delicious and the service was excellent. Had a fabulous time skiing and snowshoeing and we're already planning our summer visit.

It was very quite and peaceful and very relaxing. The cabins are equipped with fireplaces and fire wood. It was an awesome experience and this was our 2nd time back.

It's was a beautiful stay. One could not ask for a better backdrop and the staff was amazing. The hotel was just starting to show age. More run down in some areas. More rustic feel than luxury feel. One parks approx. 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from the Main Lodge and you are picked up by the Bellman in a courtesy van. This ensures that the pristine quiet is not disturbed by erratic car alarms and also keeps vehicles out of the scenic property and allows for wandering on foot without traffic. The cabins and property as a whole take advantage of good views […] of Emerald Lake and the setting is breathtaking. Cabins are not super luxurious but that was not an issue for my lady and myself. We enjoyed the homey and warm feeling of both the cabin ad Main Lodge. The food is of good quality and portions are generous to large. Most of the food is NOT processed and has a home-made quality and taste. Staff is all young but courteous and willing to please. I found them all pleasant and efficient. Treat them with respect and it will come back to you in quality and pleasant manner. They are not stuffy and have common courtesy in all dealings with you. We would definitely go back and try the summer activities as well. We tried both the skiing and snowshoeing in the local area and found both were amazing opportunities to explore the beauty of the region. Quality of all the winter gear was very good but can't comment on the summer equipment for obvious reasons. Go there and live a few days without the TV or your iPhone and you will love the experience to enjoy your partner, or read or look at the raw nature. You won't regret it! Lisateave

although the rooms was a bit aged ie, the carpet was unravelling, the staff and the attention that the staff gave was excellent. The hotel itself is beautiful and the outside acitivty level is and was amazing also.. Will be back again in hte summer for another visit.

Lovely time once again. First time cross country skiing. Cheap rental - beautiful trail. Awesome alternative for a day with no new snow at Lake Louise or Kicking Horse for downhill fun:)

Great place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff, great food, and amazing scenery! Wish we could have stayed longer. We will go back again. The only complaint we have is that it can be hard to find. The road you turn on to the hotel has no signs and no name on the street. We drove pass the turn off when trying to find it for the first time.

Fantastic hotel just off the beaten path. Pristine mountain scenery. Just enough to do to keep you interested. Hotel staff are very friendly and overly helpful. Food is very good. Wood burning fireplaces in rooms are a great touch. Highly recommended.

The lodge is really off the beaten path and is in a beautiful setting on the lake. What really stood out is the food in the main dining room and the more casual bar side. Both meals were absolutely delicious. The main lodge is surrounded by cabins with 4 rooms in each. The rooms are comfortable with basic furnishings and a lovely fireplace. Emerald Lake Lodge is a great place for couples and to a lesser extent families. It is a wonderful "get away from it all" place - no TVs in the rooms and no internet access (except in the main lodge only) add to and enhance the experience as far as I am concerned. I had been before for Valentine's Day, but this time, just before Christmas, was even more enchanting. Our only small complaint was that the hot tub was not really hot - just warm - which we told them about upon our departure and they thanked us and said they would look into it.

This is the 3rd time we've spent time at the lake and it never stops amazing us. blue skies and crisp snow and luckily this year, no wind. The trails were track set and just to walking around the lake is like being in a winter wonderland.

The staff is excellent and helpful, the accomidations are extrodinary. One of the biggest bounuses for us was that you parked remotely and were bussed up to the main buildings and accomidations, so there were no smelly loud cars for the whole weekend! Just the peace and beauty of the mountains! It is especially nice in the snow and as an added bounus […] you can start x country skiing just metres from the door. The hotel is excellent. Although I was told gluten free options were plentiful by the hotel manager for my partner who has celiac disease, they were not. We always show up prepared so it wasn't a big issue. Amazing location, a beautiful winter fairyland, but the rooms are long in the tooth and badly need refurbishing. The lodge itself is nice but we found some of the wait staff to be stand offish and not particularly helpful. The meals were good but not at the "outstanding" level we had expected. The wedding planner was quite wonderful.

Our driver was very pleasant and started our experience off on a high note. The return driver also very pleasant. The check in/out staff are below average in service and appearance. Rather frumpy and not very professional or helpful. The was no desire to go the extra mile. When asking how we get our luggage and return to our vehicles we were told "go […] wait by the thing". Having been our first visit, we had not idea what the "thing" was or where it was located. A bit of helpfulness would have gone a long way. Our coffee maker in the room did not work and when we mentioned that to the front desk, there was no apology or offer of coffee then. The hot tub is great, could be hotter though as it felt like a luke warm bathtub. Rooms are rustic and quaint, no fridge but outdoors patio could be used to keep things cold. Walls are paper thin. Decorated for the holidays the resort itself is magical and romantic, we would return and recommend however will advise not to expect any extras. Food was amazing and great value for what you get. My husband and I went there for just one night,but we wished it was longer, it really is a lovely place and so peaceful, the only problem was the slippery pathways, we had to be very careful walking to and from our lodge.We would highly recommend it.
