Hotel should consider updating interior of rooms. Make them feel new and fresh. Mildew smell and old tv and furniture. Food is HORRIBLE.....! I don't think management or owners eat at all the restaurants. Very very dissapointed in food. Price to add a person to our party was ridiculous and even more ridiculous after we tried the food.

As stated by others the beach is excellent. Staff in restaurants were very good.Went with 4 other couples and stayed in the grand section from Jan. 20-Feb. 3. Disco is horrible the 70s are over should have an area such as the club lobby where people can have a few dances say from 9-11 pm. I know there are rooms in the area but considering that the pizza […] area is right outside with screaming drunks till 2 am a little music would not hurt. Also hotel should get into the 21st century and stop charging $2,00 per day for an outdated safe. We had a nice resort experience at Marival for our family vacation (6 adults, one child). Our room was fine and clean, but on the first floor so people could see in. It's a humid place, so expect some dampness in the room--it didn't bother us. We liked the shower, beds, pillows--all comfortable. The pools were clean, the service was great, the bartenders […] and wait staff were all very friendly. Overall a good stay. Things I wouldn't have minded an improvement: 1. The beach is small, and there are not enough lounge chairs or shade for everyone. If you'd like a chair on the beach or by shade, expect to get up early, like 7am, throw a towel over it, and then go back to bed like you deserve to on a vacation... the pool chairs were easier to grab, but still by breakfast expect to save a chair if you want one... 2. The food at the buffet was just... mediocre. As a result, we ate every breakfast at the restaurant where you can order off the menu--that was great! And we had most dinners at the restaurants too, and the food was much better!!! As for the time share speech, just let them do their speech and politely refuse if you aren't interested and they aren't pushy. If you aren't married or are under 30 (or, like us, left your rings at home and have different last names), you might luck out and not be pitched to. I recommend bringing your own beach towels too, it was nice to have two. Also, visit the turtle refuge up the beach to release baby turtles into the ocean! Fun! Lisateave

Like many have said, Marival is not the hottest, newest, most gourmet resort on the block, but for our family of 4 it was ideal. 5 pools of various action and depth. Playground. Well maintained beach. Numerous activities for all levels. Restaurants (that you book ahead) were delicious. We were never bored. Recommend getting a suite so you can have a […] "sleeping" and "waking" room. Also recommend eating the buffet for most meals but eating the "special" of the day. Mexican breakfast every day and fresh papaya were highlights. Our young kids were in heaven--we did not use the kids' club, every time we dropped by the kids were watching TV. They also loved the nightly shows, though incredibly cheesy. Also, the resort is mostly Mexican so much of the activities were in Spanish--but if its good enough for the locals, its good enough for us. Very laid back, felt like family run. I have stayed in several all inclusive hotels in mexico and I can say this was one of the worst. The only good aspects of the hotel is the precious puerto Vallarta beach (which obviously does not depend on the hotel, the non motorized activities are fun an in excellent condition and the kids pool with the slides... Now I will write about the bad stuff: 1. […] I went to a wedding and the father of he groom needed a wheelchair.. They charged him a daily fee for using it! Unbelievable! 2. All the drinks were awful! Orange juice was from the worst concentrate ever being that in mexico you can get 1kg of oranges for 20 cents of a dollar. 3. Food in general was bad quality and low variety... There wasn't cream cheese at breakfast and fish tasted like plastic. 4. They cleaned the room until after 4pm. 5. Check in procedure was a torture. 6. There are no waiters in the pool and beach area, if you want some thing to drink, you have to get up and get it yourself. Even at the bar, if you don't tip the bartender big time, they won't pay attention to you. 7. In general, the hotel tries to get money out of you anyway they can, for example, they will charge 5usd if you lose your hotel key (plastic card). If you are looking for a cheap all inclusive you will get what you pay for. Cheap food, staff that dont care about you enjoying your vacation and really loud rooms no matter how many requests you make for a quiet location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The suites are spacious and comfortable. Two bathrooms was great for the four of us and the cleaning service was very accomodating. The ocean view is beautiful, especially during sunset! It was great not having to give the kids money every time they wanted a snack or drink. The all-inclusive was worth it!

One night there was a wedding rigt outside our balcony and a party at the hotel next door, this went on till 11 and we were trying to sleep cause we like to enjoy the sun not the night, it was so LOUD couldnt get any sleep. The only real problem was we paid for an upgraded room that was supposed to include a safe, and it did, but you have to pay 2$ a day more to use it. We had a great time but honestly we wouldn't go back to this hotel. It has potential if they got rid of the time share deal, made a quite side for people to enjoy the vacation how they want, and and got rid of the "hawkers" on the beach... Lisateave

Fantastic location. Good food all the restaurants. Buffets can be tiring but if you space them out with the a la carte not so bad. Lots of variety. There is a panini bar at lunch for sandwiches as well. If you like the beach lots of waves for boogie boarding.

Sadly my experience was really bad. We were expecting more than we found. The hotel was crowdly and perhaps just perhaps the service was pretty bad, especially within the receptionists. There was always a line to make for having food. We enhance our stay 1 day and a guy from reception wanted us to move to another room! The pools are nice, food is decent, rooms are clean and comfortable (though nothing fancy) but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, and would definitely not stay here again. Right from when you check in, they start pushing the timeshare on you. The person who shows you the hotel map, gives you the all-inclusive bracelet, etc., tries to sell you […] on a timeshare presentation. Even if you say you aren't interested, they offer you free massages, say "it's only 90 minutes and we'll do it during your breakfast, and you have to eat anyway," various guilt trips, etc. If you say no, for the duration of your trip, you will receive flyers under your door, and whenever passing through the main lobby or high-traffic areas, they will try to pressure you again. After finally giving in, the session took 3 hours instead of the promised 1.5, was very high-pressure sales, and impossible to leave. They pass you from one person to the next, each time promising it's the last person you'll talk to. I mentioned to one employee that I would be giving a bad review and he said, "But the timeshare staff isn't the hotel staff. That isn't fair." That may be true, but the timeshare staff is everywhere, permeating your entire hotel experience. I came on vacation to be relaxed and have fun, not to be annoyed and guilt-tripped. Lisateave

We booked an "oceanfront suite with a kingsized bed". When we arrived they gave us a view of the pool with the ocean in front and two double beds. They considered this room ocean front.They said that a kingsized bed would not be available for a couple of days.We downgraded to regular room with a better ocean view. We've stayed here two years in a row. The service is excellent; the atmosphere is fun. It can get loud and crazy in the pool area with "fun and games," but there is a quiet pool (no activities# and the ocean waves are right there as an alternative. The beach vendors are constant but not pushy--you can easily wave them away. Beware of weekend weddings...wherever […] they set up the poolside reception it will interrupt the slumber of pool view rooms until midnight #sometimes revelers go even later). We saw lots of Mexican families vacationing here, so it's not one that only caters to American & Canadian tourists. Be sure to make reservations ahead for the specialty restaurants! Stayed at the hotel in mid September, it is low season so it was not crowded. They have themed nights for the menu. They have a nice variety of food, the food was good, did not care for the orange juice as it was from a machine and was very water down. The alcoholic drinks were good and plenty. Dreadful stay, the rooms were full of humidity, the floors were therefore slippery, rooms were smelly of humidity. Food subpar. Staff was pleasant. I wouldn't rate this hotel more than 2-3 stars. My ratings were mostly 4's and 5's except for one 3 becuase of an incident with security. I had local family come visit and pick me up to take me into town. They arrived and waited in the lobby area and then walked to my suite so I could get ready. Suddenly, I hear banging at my door. It was security telling me that my I was not allowed to have visitors […] and demanded that I follow him to management in a rude manner. When I got the front desk area and spoke with managment, she was pleasant and said my visitors could wait for me in the lobby. I asked why couldn't they simply have told me this over the phone instead of escorting me out of my suite in front of my visitors (embarrassing). She apologized for the security guard being rude. My wife was in fact pleased to learn that they take security seriously, but I still think it could have been handled a more professionally. But overall I will return. Bed was hard as a rock. Food was ok not great, did get sick by the end of the week. Pool area and beach area nice almost too clean for shell searching. This was our first time staying at an all inclusive resort. We stayed at Marival for 7 nights with our 3 kids (15, 13, 8). We had an excellent time! The staff is super friendly & attentive to the guests. The food was really good. Remember to make reservations at the three restaurants! The activity staff was very good with the kids & seemed like they […] worked very hard to keep all entertained. They had a lot of activities for the kids & adults too through out the day. They encouraged people to participate in some of the shows at 9 & 10:30. Our second night there, my daughter & I went to the activity they had at 10:30. The staff in charge came up to us and told us we should get up & dance with them. My daughter (15) was very shy to get up & go participate. One of them came over again and made my daughter go up there. The participants & staff did a type of couple dancing competition. She ended up having so much fun! I felt very safe with letting my kids go off on their own around the resort. The beach was very nice & very clean! We had a two bedroom suite & was very spacious for all of us. The housekeeping staff did a great job on keeping our room clean and were also very friendly. If you let them know you arent interested about the timeshare in the beginning, they will leave you alone. It was aweful reading some of the negative reviews. Hotel stay was good. The check in was horrible. We were harnessed to attend a time share session before we could get our room keys and bracelets. The staff insisted un phased by our 1 year old crying, tired from the flight, and uncomfortable from the heat. We had one of our beach towels taken by mistake and were charged $30 for a replacement card for […] this, with the explanation that " unfortunately we are in a country were this happens " that seemed like a scam. Great place for families. Not so good for the adults wanting to relax. Pretty much constant noise even at night. Was awakened more than once by kids/teenagers screaming in the halls. The front desk told me someone was stuck in the elevator and told my sister-in-law that someone was locked out of their room. Not sure why someone would scream like they […] were being attacked over that... Anyway this was my 4th trip to Mexico, 3rd to the PV area. I was mostly disappointed here. I am used to getting fresh squeezed juice for breakfast and here it was Sunny D and something that tasted like grapefruit drink. All the bars had a list of specialty drinks but every one of them was undrinkable. I kept saying "I can't drink this". And then at the Buffet it was "I can't eat this". The other restaurants were pretty good though. I thought it strange that the only pool without a swim up bar was the adult pool. The other 2 pools the bars were crowded with kids. The staff here was not too friendly. No one said "hola" when we walked by. Again, if you have kids you will probably enjoy this place. We are used to staying at Adults only properties that seem to be higher end places. This was a family reunion and it was not my choice. Also don't go in June if you don't enjoy sweating. We were at this hotel four years ago so and it was awesome. Whether it is the economy or what, the hotel provided much less this time so we were disappointed. This was especially noted in the food. The entertainment was great last time but this time much of it was "R" rated. There were a lot of children there which made it even more inappropriate. My […] husband fell at the theater the second day we were there and cracked his knee. We didn't support--including any staff helping me get him up off the floor. The wheelchair wouldn't fit in the elevator so that was a problem. The room with disability access meant we changed from a room with a great ocean view to one with a view of a fence and the hotel loading dock. The ramps are steep and hard to get up and down, which made us even more immobile. We didn't get the appropriate help to make a bad accident less of a negative experience. Lisateave
