The Belvedere Hotel - New York

The last time I was at this hotel, I got stuck in the elevator and had to use the emergency phone. This time the key card didn't work and the front desk swiped it twice, sending me up to the room promising a service engineer would be at my back. Of course, no service engineer showed up and I stood in their hot hallway waiting. Finally, on the third […] try, another service manager swiped the key so it worked. My feeling, though, is they should have given me another room and not made checking in so bloody inconvenient. This hotel as a boutique lobby and that's about it. It's not worth the money. Lisateave

Hotel was basically awesome ... only thing that wasn't great was being an older hotel as far as the building is concerned, the elevators were small and you often had to wait for one, both in the lobby or on your floor. The Belvedere was a great hotel in all respects bar one - the slow lifts! Located just off Times Square, it is in the heart of everything. Close proximity to subway, restaurants, shops etc. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed with small kitchenette. There was no street noise whatsoever which is a big plus in NYC! The 2 lifts were very small […] and slow and we often just walked down the 10 flight of stairs rather than wait. A small price to pay unless tight time-keeping is essential to your stay. Lisateave

If I could give the Belvedere more than five stars, I would. The service from the hotel staff -- bellmen, doormen, front desk staff, housekeeping, everyone-- was exceptional. Every staff member went out of their way to be accommodating to meet our every need. Our room was very spacious, beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. We had the 2 x double bed STD rooms, and the rooms was a good size, there was ample space to tuck 3 large suitcases away either in the built in warderobe or under the kitchen work surface - which is a problem I have had in previous trips to New York in other hotels. Room was very clean, comfy beds, and good showers. As prevously mentioned in other posts […] there is not a lot of storage space in the bathroom, but a minor issue. When we went (end of May) the weather was very hot and humid over 33 on a couple of days, this meant that the rooms were hot so you had to have the AC on at night, which is quite noisy, even if you dont have your AC on you can hear all the other rooms AC units as they are all built into the windows. After a few days it cooled down a bit, so this wasnt a problem but if your a light sleeper the constrant droan of AC units may be a problem for you. Staff were good very friendly and helpful. Lift wasnt a problem for us as were on the 4th floor so generally used the stairs, but I can imagine they may be a problem on upper floors. Our room was next to the lift, and we never heard it once - which is surprising. overall very pleased with this hotel and would recommend to others. Lisateave

Our room and the corridors smelled terrible. The machines on the outside were so noisy we couldn't sleep. Rooms very small compared to what is advertised. No free wifi (really? In today's day and age?). Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I searched online for months looking for a good rate on a Manhattan hotel. After accepting the fact that it simply costs around $300 for a decent hotel, not fancy, just decent, to stay here, I finally settled on the Belvedere for just under $300. Wow, were we blown away! It is a beautiful boutique hotel, with 1st rate service, very clean, everything […] worked and the room was beautiful with a spectacular view of the skyline. We were 1 block from Times Square and took advantage every evening of the great food and fun activities going on there but walked each night to our hotel for a quiet nights rest in our luxurious room. Hotel was old and smelled bad. Our rooms were small and the beds uncomfortable. We also had to pay for wifi ( really????) I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We had a great stay and service was excellent. Our only negative was that the bathroom was so small. We staid in room 916. We will definitely consider staying again.

This hotel needs a remodel. Rooms are large and peculiar. There are no amenities to speak of- staff nice and efficient. Shabby decor , bathrooms and bedding. Beds terrible big divets where people have slept are visable before you even remove duvet. Do yourself a favor, spend more - stay somewhere else

The Belvedere was on the "other" side of Broadway versus where we usually stay. Loved it. Restaurants all over, nearby. 3 blocks from the show we went to. Large beautiful room, esp for NYC. I would recommend this hotel to everybody.

I have now stayed at the hotel twice and will surely stay there again soon. The service, staff, hotel location near the theater district and the lovely and hearty full breakfast buffet make this hotel a must stay. As an added bonus, the restaurant Mont Blanc is right next door. What a perfect stay.

While the room needed several minor repairs done (fan not working in the bathroom, dresser knobs loose...) and updating, the location was great and the staff were always courteous and helpful. Would stay there again.

The hotel is recommendable for its good service and cleanliness. Few blocks to most of tourist spots.The only comment I have is the elevator where I experienced being trapped for 10 minutes. Good thing was that there was personnel with us and ensure that we will be okay and someone will get us out immediately.

Great hotel, reasonably priced for Manhattan, and ideally located for the Theater District. We had an executive room with 2 double beds, free wifi, marble bathroom, and small kitchenette area (microwave, coffee maker, and frig). The only negatives were slow elevators and the bathroom was very small. Other than that, highly recommended.

While the hotel was in a fine location and our room was clean, it was on the small side for the price we paid for a one night stay. However the thing that I did not like was in the cafe which serves breakfast, you could only order the continatial breakfast or the full breakfast buffet, even though the menu in the window showed a menu with a la carte […] pricing. Extremely well-located for daily attendance at Broadway theaters. Microwave and small fridge a wonderful benefit. Close to subways and the 8th Ave bus that goes uptown. Only drawback is the speed of the elevators(slow!!) and the fact that there are only 2 of them, plus one at the end of the hall that is heavily used by the housecleaning staff during […] the day. Had a couple of issues that needed an engineer to solve, and that happened very quickly. I would stay here again, and have, actually, several years in a row. It is on the edge of becoming too expensive, but I hope to squeeze my funds to make the Belvedere my NYC base of operations for as long as possible. Lisateave

The Belvedere is in a wonderful location of Manhattan, within walking distance to Broadway theaters, Times Square and transportation. There were many restaurants, delis, grocers and pubs along 8th and 9th. The hotel has been recently renovated and our room was beautiful. The Bellman said our floor was renovated most recently so I was glad we paid extra […] for the Double Executive Room which has 2 full-size beds. The staff was very polite and accommodating. The bath drain was slow and they sent someone up within 20 minutes to fix it. The hotel lent us a wheelchair so my 82 year old mother could get around the city easier. I would stay there again. The hotel was full of French speaking tourists for some reason?! Lisateave
