Perfect for running the marathon..not great food if you have young children and as we were there at the sametime a wedding party was we were lucky to get any food at all....not much choice for the paying guests

Mericure was quite nice hotel central to all the tourist places and very handy if your using public transport. The room was pleasant for a nights stay have stayed at better places in Brighton but have stayed at a lot worse!I would give it 7 out 0f 10

Evening meal better than I was expecting. Staff helpful maintenance issues at the hotel; no hot water one morning staff responded quickly. Excellent location

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival they rearranged cars in the car park to make room for us. Room was large clean and comfortable with an enormous bed. Breakfast was excellent. It's hard to find fault.

We spent a night in Brighton for my birthday and were just looking for somewhere to rest our heads. The pictures of this hotel looked fine and whilst not cheap, thought it's a well known chain and a good bet. Not so... the hotel is very dated and creaky, it had no atmosphere, and the rooms pokey. Our first room looked onto an alley and the bathroom […] was so narrow one could almost not tun around in it. We asked to be moved which they kindly agreed to. Our second room was better and a 'normal' design, but still tiny and a strange, long walk to get to. Very disappointed in our stay unfortunately, unless this is sub £50 a night, I'd not recommend staying there. Lisateave

We never went! I made a mistake when booking and got the date wrong. I tried to correct it by phoning Expedia and the Hoyel Mercure, but ended up paying £76.20 for nothing

very good stay at this hotel. Everything clean and tidy and in working order. Only one negative was being asked to pay £15 to use the car park for the night. Hotel was very quiet - so plenty of empty parking bays. Ended up moving my car and parking on the road for free.

The mercure is the latest name for a hotel that began life as the Norfolk in the heyday of brightons fame as a beach resort. Long in the tooth now, it is still a comfortable and friendly hotel. I enjoyed my stay, and recommend the hotel. In the interest of balance, I felt the food was expensive so can't comment on the quality. And one thing I found […] odd.. The hotel is much further along the seafront than google maps suggests that it is.. I had to do some hunting to find it! :) Lisateave

Friendly & helpful staff. Double bed is smallish & far too soft. Capet slightly worn, needing replacement. Beachfront location is great. Overall, really enjoyed the stay. Room very clean. Will be back again!

Overall very good value for money in a nice buidling and a very comfortable room. The building is however a bit tired and since it was a weekend you could feel the staff /hotel stretched to their limits. Parking was a problem, the procedure to get drinks charged to your room is cumbersome and breakfast was a bit minimal

I've stayed in the hotel before when it was a Remada. The parking and breakfast were both a lot cheaper then! Room was comfortable and clean but not 4 star there was no offer of help with bags or asked about newspaper or wake up call. No freebies or happy hour. All really underwelming but great location.

The hotel is a bit far away from the town centre and is probably a bit over priced for what it is. Everything felt a bit dated. Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The room we had was really small. We could just about walk around the double bed. The bathroom was similar as you could almost hit the toilet when you opened the door. […] The bed was so nice I fell asleep so quick when I got into bed! I would say this was a good hotel but could be more attractive if the price was lower because of how date things are. It is a 4* hotel though! Lisateave

This is NOT a 4 star hotel. Desperately in need of an revamp, and daily maintnance. First impression, swingdoor full of fingerprints, whatever, and totally worn out. Walls like paper, every noise was heard. Am I beeing to negative, NO. This is really bad, except for the personell doing their best under catastropical conditions. Stay away...

Booked for a short break. We were able to book in early and were able to upgrade our room to a sea view at a fraction of the normal rate. Lovely stylish room, nice touches, bathrobes, slippers. Sofa. Lovely comfy king size bed. Paid for continental breakfast in advance but we were given full english. Lovely self-serve selection in beautiful dining room […] with pleasant and attentive staff. The hotel was advertised on Expedia that the room will have free wifi. This was not the case when we arrived at the hotel. The breakfast was not nice.

The room we stay in was not to bad it was ok for what we needed.The Hotel itself needs to be up dated and could do with a lick of paint. We stood at the bar for 10 mins before someone came to us,not very good for a 4 star hotel. If you want to park your car at the Hotel it will cost you £15 a night just to park, way over the top. This is a great place to stay in Brighton. The hotel has character and is well maintained. Our large gorgeous bathroom had high ceiling and huge tub. Our room was sort of in the middle of the hotel, so very quiet, but we still could see the sea from our window. Gorgeous sea breeze. The staff was great and the location was an easy walk to Brighton Pier, […] the Lanes and the Royal Pavilion. We were there only one night. Good location and good choice of breakfast. Older hotel but has some character. Very disappointed though with the £15 per night parking charge for residents that we were unaware of adding £30 to our stay. The car park was VERY tight and there wasn't any space for us when we arrived. As there is no nearby parking at all, especially when you have bags […] to carry - it is mainly resident parking or short term pay and display, we felt that charging residents was out of order. The hotel was well located and mostly satisfactory, mostly. There were no parking spaces left, the room was hot and stuffy and the servers in the breakfast room were forgetful. On the plus side the room was very clean, the service was friendly and the hotel looked fantastic from the outside.

Four star rating is not appropriate, would struggle at a three. Public areas of hotel are fine but the rooms were very small and not comfortable. The room was not air conditioned which meant that the window had to be left open at night, on our first night we were awoken very early by the sound of the refuse collection vehicle, we thought we might fare […] better the second night only to be woken by the hotel staff wheeling cages about, the third night we suffered the heat. Our stay was three nights, although we didn't have a lot of luggage, there was not a single drawer in the room so apart from the clothes that we could hang on the rail, we had to live out of our suitcases. We are frequent hotel guests and having stayed in a Mecure hotel before we found this very disappointing, a Travel Lodeg would have comfortable. Lisateave

For the price I paid for the room I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and comfortable it was. The staff were very helpful and the cooked breakfast in the morning was great. For a weekend away in a central location I would highly recommend it and would definately stay there again.

We booked a family room for a couple of nights. It was what we expected for the price, clean, helpful and a great location. The beach is across the road, the pier is 25mins away (slow wander) Watch out for the cyclists lane. you could also get the tour sight seeing bus, tickets valid for two days and you can jump on and off at certain stops including […] train station and bandstand which is outside this hotel. After visiting Brighton with relatives from USA, We had a great stay at this hotel the breakfast was fantastic our family room was very spacious and fitted all 4 of us well! The staff we good and the hotel was well kept and very beautiful! Overall Impressed with the hotel. It would be good for them to extend the Free WIFI to your room, as this is mostly standard these days. Also slight problem with the bath draining, which to be faire do not think that they were aware of, didn't spoil our stay.

There is no way this a 4 star hotel. Bed is poor and rock-hard, breakfast was below average and no help with luggage, location or made to feel welcome. The rooms are not air-conditioned nor do they have any fans etc. However good location and excellent parking (at a price)

I selected this hotel based on its location, its handsome exterior and impressive reviews. The location did not disappoint and was perfect for our requirements (a wedding nearby). The exterior of the hotel was as pretty as the pictures, and could have been a setting for an Agatha Christie mystery - I half expected Miss Marple or Poirot to make an appearance […] at breakfast. The interior was rather disappointing however. Our room had a pungent smell (308), which was also noticed and commented about by more than one visitor to our room. Another disappointment was that all of our key cards (for both rooms in our party) didn’t work when we returned late in the evening following the wedding. On a positive note the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, but it wasn’t quite a four star in my opinion. Lisateave

Basic double rm booked. I had a good sized room which was very comfortable with tea,coffee facilities and still/sparkling water. Breakfast was in the smaller room on the seafront during the wk and in the main hall at the back at the wend. Front room was nicer. Staff very helpful and pleasant(they work very long hours). Very helpful staff-gave us a seaview room with a balcony which made the stay all the more pleasant. When we had stayed at the Mercure in Reims recently, we were told it was company policy for breakfast to be included if you were over 60. On enquiring we were told this was not true- obviously this needs investigating.

Firstly we were placed into a disabled room, with a granny shower! On top of that is the disabled alarm cord dangled down onto the middle of the bed. We were then moved to what was apparently the "only other room left in the hotel" which was very old fashioned, in need of renovation, and the shower was what I would expect from a Travelodge I booked […] the Mercure pretty much based on the name, but will not make the same mistake twice The ultimate lowlight of the stay was the special needs maid who seemed unable to notice the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign hung on the front door and burst into our room at 11.50 to clean while me and my girlfriend were buck naked in bed, and didn't even apologise While the front of the hotel gives the impression of a grand 4 star, the rooms themselves were of a 2-3* quality AT BEST Lisateave

our room had a big stain on the carpet just as you walked through the door so very of putting room smelt of damp we should have complained but we just didnt want to as we were there for only one night but also the noise was bad in the corridors at night up to 4 oclock in the morning we go to brighton quite a lot just for a nice break and stay at differant […] hotels but as there are so many to chose from dont think we will go back to mercure thanks mercure for a bad night Lisateave
