Danubius Hotel Gellert - Budapest

The hotel is a spectacular piece of architecture but most areas and rooms are in sore need of updating. Our room 430 was spacious with a small balcony. Unfortunately it faced Budapest hill which was lovely and quiet during the day but a ruckus teen party place at night. Be fore warned the hotel does not have AC so you will need to open the windows. […] The hotel and bath staff are very helpful and friendly and their English is perfect. The baths and swimming pools are fabulous and included in the stay. The breakfast buffet is huge and also included. We would stay again if the weather is not hot. Lisateave

The exterior of the Gellert Hotel is fabulous, echoing history and an affluent past and the reception reflects this. However, the rooms have the same feel. The apartment door doesn't fit properly, carpets are old and dirty, ceiling tiles are broken and out of place, fixtures are old and worn, the shower in the bath is for very short people and the list […] goes on. Watch out for the inclusive breakfast if you like a latte or fresh orange juice as these are extra AND they add on a 10% service charge for the privilege of serving them to you. The alternatives are orange squash and regular coffee... And don't expect a 2nd key if there are 2 of you because they won't have one. I stay in a lot of hotels and have stayed in 6+ different ones in Budapest. This was by far the most expensive but the price didn't bring the quality or value I would have expected. I recommend that you walk past the hotel, maybe look inside at the reception and then go and find another hotel. The spa baths are beautiful and open to the public for the same amount of time as the hotel guests, so finding another hotel and just visiting for a few hours is by far the best option. Lisateave

The Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel itself and was full of grace and beauty. It was unfortunate that the rooms themselves did not continue with the theme. The carpet had a grotty patch that looked like it could have been cleaned with a little effort and the loo moved! That said rooms were warm with a comfy bed and the most comfortable […] pillow I have ever encountered. Unless you plan to use the baths, this hotel is located far from most of the tourist spots you would want to visit. The hotel needs a complete renovation although everything was clean. The baths are fantastic, but men and women are separated, per tradition.

It was wonderful to be there, and enjoy for free the thermal baths. That was a PLUS! Breakfast very good! Location Excelent!

The hotel has not been updated in years. The rooms were very old. There is no air conditioning which is a problem because when you open the windows (as you must) it is difficult, if not impossible, to sleep. The rooms facing the Danube have traffic all night and the inside ones have deliveries beginning at 5 a.m. The hotel needs a MAJOR renovation. […] We would not stay there again. Danubius Hotel Gellert was recommended to us by friends who had stayed there. They described it as old world elegance. Fortunately, we didn't need air conditioning -- that would be a plus in the summer. We did enjoy the mineral baths and fabulous breakfasts and the comfortable size of our room.

I wish every one take a shower before get in Spa.

The Gellert must have been a very grand hotel in its day. Many trappings about the place are stuck in the 70's,even so it is a pleasant place to stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast, include with the price of the room, is a good mix of European and American style treats. And the Spa is not to be missed. The building and its location were great. River-side window views were spectacular. The available services (restaurants, meals, baths) were not clearly explained and not easy to figure out. Hotel staff was not generous with information or assistance. Concierge desk was never manned during my four-day stay. "Business Center" provided no free service […] at all (not even printing boarding pass), and closed at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Lisateave

Hotel room on the 4th floor was very small, and can't have been decorated in the last 20 years. The bed had no head board and the wallpaper was very discoloured with the pattern missing where people's heads had rubbed against it. Shower was very small, with no overhead fixing so it had to be held to have a shower!! In a word: GRIM. DON'T GO THERE!

My room was smelling sewage from the bathroom, the internet connection have to be used from the tv, even if you have your own laptop, and did not work for me. i called the front desk and they could not solve the problem (and that internet would not be free as well). if you want to use the hotel to have a free entrance to the thermal resort, dont do […] it. Bye the ticket at the entrance, and it will be worthy! Lisateave

Location is good, expecially to walk along Donu at night. Spa is very confortable. Facilities looked old but acceptable. Staffs are kind and frendly. One bad thing is house keeping work. Glasses of my room were cracked or durty. Overall, however, nice hotel to stay.

This customer service of this hotel is very lousy. 1) It started with the Gellert thermal bath usage. I checked-in the hotel at 6:30 pm, and the termal bath would be closed at 7 pm. The hotel receptionist told me that I was too close to the closing time and he would not issue me the swipe-card for the bath. I really wanted to use it before the dinner, […] so it still went down to the bath. They let me come inside after showing my room key. I was there until 8 pm. Even they closed at 7 pm, people inside could stay quite awhile after the closing. 2) After the thermal bath, I went to my room. The room was so hot. I turned the knob down from the radiator panel to a complete shut off. Then, I went to the dinner. I toured around the city and came back to the room. The room was unbearable hot. I called the reception desk to report about the problem with the radiator heater. They said that all the technicians went home and there wasn't anything they could do about the heater. I requested for a room change. All single bed rooms were fully booked, and they could not switch me to a different room. I opened the door to allow cold air coming into the room. It was in November so the outside temperature was around 4'C. I had to adjust how big of the window I should open to have a comfortable temperature inside. Finally, I was able to do that. 3) While I was adjusting the room temperature with the window, I went downstair to pick up a card for the internet. The internet card was equivalent to 4 euroes after converting from their currency. They told me I could pay for the card when I checked out. The next morning I paid them a 10 euro bill. They didn't have a change. I went to the car and brought the change. I gave them a 2 euro coin, a 1 euro coin, and 2-50 cent coins to make up for 4 euroes. The receptionist refused to take 2-50 cent coins because he said the bank would not take them. I told them that's all I had. Finally, they took them. I stayed at the Gellert for two nights on business. It is a very impressive building, but my room was small (I was in the cheapest room) and decor was a bit chintzy; basically the whole place could do with a bit of a refurb. There was no air conditioning so the room was stuffy. The main incentive to stay here is the free access to the Gellert spa; this […] can be reached by a private elevator for hotel guests leading to the main reception of the spa. It can be a bit unnerving the first time you walk through the reception in your hotel gown and flip-flops but lots of people do it so don't be embarassed! The buffet breakfast is wonderful with a huge selection of continental and cooked breakfasts and mountains of fruit. I also ate at the terrace restaurant which has a fanastic view of the Danube, Gellert hill and the Liberty Bridge - good food and hungarian folk music, although I could have done without the personal serenade as I was dining alone! Bell and restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly but some of the reception staff were a little snooty so I have marked the hotel down a bit on that. Overall I would recommend the hotel to people who like to stay in landmark/historic buildings but don't expect absolute luxury. Lisateave

liked this hotel. staff helpful and very to the point. the attachment of the baths was a real plus. rooms very nice but no air conditioning and very hot (stayed in July). despite this would stay again.

I loved my stay at the Gellert and will return. Yes, the rooms are small with old furniture, but the art-nouveau decor in the main halls and baths are beautiful and the very cordial, sincerely well-meaning staff members were nicely attentive to giving me a well-needed relaxing stay. A truly generous breakfast buffet is included with the price of your […] room as is access to the baths. There is a 24-hour store very close by. People interested in old-world charm will love the Gellert and Budapest! Those who need everything to be like their new sub-division homes, might want to stay elsewhere. Lisateave

För oss passade det utmärkt med att bo här rummen var rena men gamla som resten av hotellet maten och frukosten var utmärkt samt det fria inträdet till badanläggningen var perfekt ,det låg också centralt till vi hade utsikt över Doanue.

Hotellet har charme, en god placering, fri adgang til termisk bad, men værelserne er slidte.

Äldre hotell med lite nedgångna rum. Härlig atmosfär och byggnad. Bra frukost och bra SPA med prisvärda och bra behandlingar.

男女別の鄙びた温泉大浴場、湯音は二種、温めの温泉にのんびり浸かるのが良い、またAM６時からの朝風呂も良い。朝食はさすがというレベル。

Lite slitet men charmigt! Direkt åtkomst till SPA-anläggningen var toppen. Helt OK frukost. Vi som var här för att bara vila och se oss omkring var detta perfekt. Centralt läge, ta spårvagnen eller bussen precis utan för dörren och utforska Budapests spännande historia.

Vi har hatt 6 flotte dager i Budapest. Hotellet er hyggelig og behjelpelilge med det meste - fra reservasjoner på restauranter til trikkebilletter og generell informasjon. Kan trygt anbefales.

ホテルの建物や部屋の設備は古い。最新の設備が好きな人はがっかりするかもしれない。ただし、故障や不便なことはなく、快適に過ごせた。 朝食はビュッフェ形式で豪華で大満足。4泊したが惣菜＆デザート全品目制覇は普通サイズの胃袋では無理。しかも毎日何品かおかずも変更される。 ホテル内のレストランも妥当な価格で、味も良かった。 なんといっても温泉は、建物がすばらしい。温泉の利用方法が分かりにくいという意見もあるようですが、詳しい手引き？説明書？（A41枚英文）を読めばそんなに困ることはない。 温泉は別組織が経営しているようですが、スタッフの対応とかで不満に思う点はなかった。 38度というと日本人には物足りないとか、ぬるすぎるという人もいるとは思いますが、数字以上に温かく感じた。温泉だからなのか、ゆっくり […] 使っていれば、風呂から上がってもいつまでもポカポカしていました。朝6時から開いているのも、観光前にひと風呂浴びられてちょうど良い。 プールの温度は26度くらいで、冬場はちょっとつらいかも。 8歳の子供と利用したので、子供も食事、温泉ともとても喜んでました。ちなみに子供の宿泊金額、朝食、温泉代はすべて無料でした。ファミリーでの利用だと満足度が高いと思われます。 値段的にはもっと安いところがたくさんあるので、若干高く感じるかもしれません。 Lisateave

Väldigt fint att kunna börja dagen med ett utomhusbad i 36 gradigt vatten och sedan gå och käka en god frukost. Bra service.

Bästa läge, med helt underbara varma pooler ute och inne, olika behandlingar som var mycket prisvärda och sist men inte minst serverades en helt fantastiskt hotell frukost.

Frukosten var fantastisk och personalen var mycket hjälpsam och trevlig. skulle gärna bo här igen.

Vi booket hotellet mye pga SPA/varme kilden og forventet at hotellet hadde sett sine bedre dager.. Men, dette ble gjort til skamme! Hotellet var utrolig sjarmerende, flott og virkelig prisverdt. Delux suiter med utsikt til Donau er absolutt å anbefale. Vi bodde 3 på ene suiten, og 2 på den andre. Store deilige rom. Veranda og stort walking closet gir […] litt luksus følelse. Når man i tillegg kan ta på seg badekåpen og vandre over til SPA'et, sette seg ute i solen med et iskaldt glass hvit vin før man synker ned i den varme kilden føles livet ganske perfekt:-) I tillegg var både Restauranten og Brasseriet på hotellet supre når man ønsker å spise nydelig mat&ha kort vei hjem. Vi reiser tilbake om 4 måneder - og skal selvsagt bo på samme hotell!! Lisateave

Merveilleuse ancienne bâtisse jouxtée aux bains thermaux. Personnel très avenant et efficace. Buffet de déjeuner copieux et varié dans une décor fastueux. On se prend pour Sissi le temps d'un séjour. Chambres un peu vieillottes mais confortables. Magnifique vue sur le Danube. Proximité du pont de la Liberté et des trams.

Har nog sett sina glansdagar. Trevlig personal fast lyxstämpeln det en gång hade är långt borta. Bra läge vid donau, och det har ett härligt men turistigt bad.

L'hotel est bien et bien situé. Les chambres ne sont pas modernes du tout mais grandes et propres. Personnel très acceuillant. Les thermes ne sont pas aussi beau que sur la photo (la piscine à l'extérieur n'était pas en route en début mars) mais nous avons fait faire des massages géniales et pas chèrs.

Værelset var slidt, men morgenmaden fantastisk, spa´et lækkert, massagen rimelig billig. Der tales en smule engelsk.

Hotellet har en flott beliggenhet med utsikt mot Donau og med gode trikkeforbindelser i alle retninger. Direkte tilgang til badeanlegget er et stort pluss ved oppholdet. Dessverre trekker romstandarden ned. De er slitne og trenger oppgradering. Selv om vi bestilte ikke røker-rom, var lukten på rommet svært ubehagelig.

Un hôtel comme dans les comtes de fées, dans des décors faisant revivre les fastes d'antant. Thermes enchanteurs, service impeccable. On a tous adorés. Préférez la semaine, le WE les thermes sont envahi dès le vendredi soir pas les "city-tripeurs". Famille avec 2 enfants (8 et 13 ans)

Äldre hotell men väldigt rent och riktigt bra service. Perfekt hotell för tjejgänget som vill ha lite behandlingar på shoppingresan. Fri tillgång till badet och bra service om man ville boka behandlingar. Obs termalbaden har separerade avdelningar för kvinnor och män alla dagar utom söndagar. Bra frukost men en kväll åt vi i deras brasserie och det […] kan inte rekommenderas. Ska man äta ska man bege sig till finanskvarteret 6oktober-gatan och sas-gatan. Budapest ä rett perfekt resemål för den som vill ha lite kultur och shoppa men ha lite avkoppling på bad. Lisateave

Trivsamt, slitet, rent och med charm. Om du tycker att designhotellens likriktning och opersonliga look är tråkig - välj då detta. Fantastiska gemensamma miljöer och mycket bra bad. Slitna rum och möbler - men med charm! Mycket trevlig och hjälpsam personal.

Hotellet är lite slitet men elegant. Bra frukost och service. Det allra bästa är fri tillgång till Gellert spa. Man går från hotellrummet i morgonrock direkt till spa där man får en egen låst hytt att lägga eventuella tillhörigheter i.

Første gang vi besøgte Gellert blev vi begejstrede for personalets smil og gode service, og derfor valgte vi for 3.die gang dette sted, som udgangspunkt for en vennetur: Hotellet og kurbadets samarbejde gør det til noget særligt, og selv om hotellet er slidt af tidens tand, oplever man en dejlige afslapppet atmosfære, med et strejf af storhed og et […] personale der kan lide deres job og kender til god service. Belligende med den smukke udsigt til Donau og god offentlig transportmuligheder lige ved døren giver gode muligheder for at finde rundt i byen og nemt at komme hjem til dagens badetur, som må være et MUST for enhver livsnyder.
