Nice hotel just up the hill from the main strip. Close to everything, but a bit quieter. Seemed to be a slightly older, more reserved clientele. Beautiful views of bay. Small beach but near outlet of local river, so probably not terribly clean. Pool smallish. Breakfast buffet with wide variety of foods.

Location was fantastic. A 15 min walk from Bangla road, Patong. It has a number of stairs - but that's because it's located onthe side of a hill, overlooking the bay. The resort has two pools; the first has a kiddie pool at one end, but is very deep at the other (3m). The other is 1.4m allt eh way - so there are no kid there. They took care of our bags for an entire day and let us use their pool and facilities while we waited for our midnight flight. Excellent location, wonderful scenery. Set about a 10 minute walk from Bangla Rd so if you want to go out to all the bars & nightclubs it's easily done. Yes it's a little up from patong beach but we enjoyed the walk. only 15 mins from Bangla rd and lots to see on the way. tuk tuk is only 6 each way anyways. A hotel way up on the hill away from the township, unless you are prepared to pay for an overpriced tuk tuk or taxi for a trip to town then you need to prepare yourself for a good 15 minute walk. Our room was a superior rated room but it was never cleaned and only supplied with toileteries and a newspaper but never before late afternoon. Don't bother […] to complain they don't care. The buffet breakfast was good but be prepared for a long walk including some 98 steps to get to it if your room is closer to reception! The hotel is beautiful, set on a cliff. However if you are expecting to go from bed to beach, look elsewhere. The beach that the hotel is on is not swimmable. The hotel itself has decent restaurants and the breakfast buffet is very good. However the trek to town is not manageable by foot. You would need a tuk tuk or taxi to go shopping.

The location was perfect as we were able to escape Patong when we wanted and also it was only a short walk down to the main beach of Patong. Nice hotel, best quality is the location close to Patong (but not IN Patong). Bathroom needed renovation - it was too small for a hotel of this standard and needed descaling. Internet access is not included in the rooms, and cost around 65 USD for 5 days - too expensive for our taste. I stayed at the Amari Coral Beach hotel in Phuket from 22nd to 29th September 2011 together with my family. The service level and friendliness of the staff in all areas of the hotel was excellent, as was the quality of the buffet breakfast which was included in the room rate. The hotel location is great as it is within walking distance of the central […] Patong area (20 min walk) and Patong beach but also far enough away to escape the noise and bustle of Patong when required. The only small downside is that the hotel does not provide a shuttle service into central Patong (many other Amari hotels have a shuttle service). We have been travelling around Thailand starting with Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and now Phi Phi Island. Our stay at Amari was the worst place I've ever stayed in all my travels and especially in comparison to stays around Thailand. I'm not sure how this hotel received 4 star rating, but they clearly spent all the money on the restaurants and lobby […] and not the hotel rooms. The rooms could use some spackle and even paint to make them more presentable. Bathroom was awkward and the air conditioning didn't work properly, walls were very thin and you could hear everthing. Restaurants were a hike down the hill from the room. Tuk Tuk rides down to Patong Beach and shopping were $200 baht each way which isn't a lot but it does add up...I would recommend staying somewhere more convenient for less $ such as Holiday Inn or there was also a very nice looking resort and spa down the hill as well. This resort was set-up like a motel as well. If I were expedia I wouldn't even allow people to book with this hotel. Staff were not nearly as friendly as the rest of Thailand people we've met. Situated at the southern part of Patong beach, the Amari is set in it's own lush tropical landscaped grounds, and faces the sea along the full length of the resort. It has a Jetty that is a fair walk form the main building but definitely worthwile. Our room overlooked the sea, the waves lapping beneath our balcony. The room was a standard one but was […] well maintained and very clean. Complimentary tea / coffee in the room as well as a daily supply of drinking water. A free newsaper is also provided daily. A good selection of restaurants on site, with themed nights - the Seafood BBQ was excellent (wine with the meal pushes up the cost but compliments the meal and atmosphere). The excellent buffet breakdfast caters for all tastes and is well presented and of a good quality standard. The 2 swimming pools are great! plenty of towels.If you want to go to the beach or on a day trip to the Islands, the hotel will let you take their towels (available from the concierge desk). Only downside (for some) is the fact that hotel is built on the side of a hill overlooking the sea; so lots of steps to climb (there is a lift located in the lobby area that serves all levels but some steep inclines will need to be faced). On the upside - the steps help burn the holiday calories. Easy access to Patong: beach, Bangala Road etc; Suggest walking into town (downhill) and take a Tuk Tuk back fromthe town to the hotel. Positives: Short walk to neighboring beach town, filled with seedy dive bars, over-zealous massage options, and tattoo parlors. The hotel lobby is gorgeous, and it has two lovely pool options and a private beach. The complementary breakfast (don't purchase a breakfast plan, they upgrade everyone to free breakfast) was one of the most impressive free […] meals I've had. Very pleased. The room was very small, and the deck was almost unusable in the evenings because of bugs. They should enclose the patios. The price was good for the actual accommodations. Negatives: The beach in town is filled with locals trying to sell various water sport experiences and sex services. In several of the night spots, literally every girl in the bar offered "partying" for money, and on the way to the bar, we received many offers for illegal drugs. It contained an unsavory crowd, better for partying than for a family vacation. The hotel staff spoke very poor english, and when we tried to upgrade to get a larger room or to get two rooms, they did not understand. We requested double beds, and were provided with two single mattresses on one wooden platform. It was very uncomfortable, but would have worked for a couple. Traveling with other male friends, I would have liked more space or separate beds, or even enough space for a roll-away, which there was not. There are a lot of stairs and inclines without elevator access, so if you are disabled or have difficulty navigating stairs, this is not the right spot for you. Lastly, the employees tried to force us to take very over priced taxis driven by their friends. They offered a cab to the airport for 1300 Baht, but our cab from the airport costed only 500 Baht, and we negotiated down to 800 Baht (approximately $26 USD). A cab to town should cost no more than 150-200, but it's a short walk with nice views and the chance to stop at some bars alone the way. Lisateave

Even though the hotel claim all rooms are sea-view, do take note that you want a full sea-view when making reservation as our superior room only had a partial view as we were obstructed by the roof top of the block in front of us. All massages are outdoor in open huts offering a fantastic sea-view with lots of surrounding greenery, but unfortunately bring with it a squadron of mozzies. We stayed in the deluxe room which faced the beach. It was a pleasure to sleep at night with the sounds of the waves. The balconies are very private so you could be in your own world. The rooms are very spacious although the bathrooms are very small for a luxury hotel. We also had consistent trouble with the toilet flush. But as soon as we called housekeeping […] for any problems they were there within a few minutes. We also found it strange that the TVs were not flat screens but rather the old ones and were far away from the bed for viewing – not that we came to watch TV. We were very happy with the location in that it was close enough to Patong to walk, while not being in the middle of all the noise. The resort is very inclusive and you do not have to leave it to holiday. The staff are wonderful and tried to accommodate all our needs. The spa is very pricey but even if you do not have a massage there, you must go take a look at the location and the spa rooms. The effect is unbelievable but the massage not so great. We took a driver for 4 hours to see the main sights in Phuket – the Big Buddha, temples, an elephant ride and the scenic spots. Don't use the tour guide desk at the hotel – it was literally double the price of any booths down the street. We used a gut called Wit at the "Nice" booth. We also took the boat ride to Phi Phi and stayed there overnight. If you want to do this make sure that you book the right boat as not many give that option. On the way they stopped at two other islands for snorkeling, well worth it. The hotel put up a stage next to the pool area for Christmas shows. The construction was particularly noisy over one whole day and also blocked the entrance from the grassy areas to parts of the pool. After complaining, the manager of the hotel offered us a free meal at the very exclusive La Gritta restaurant on site. Breakfast had a vast array of foods, although we found that Thailand is not big on salads or cheeses. There was nightly entertainment Lisateave

Great location. Very close to all the Patong action, yet just far enough away for a spa-like retreat. A short 5-10 minute walk into town, or very quick tuk-tuk ride. Facilities are superb. They were somewhat indirect in their communications, and I always felt like they were not quite on my side. For instance, the concierge is basically a third-party tour operator only promoting a few specific tours. They are not good at explaining all of the independent options. Likewise, the bellhop/transportation desk dealt solely with taxis stationed outside the hotel and ready to upcharge you (hint: walk down the hill and catch a taxi/tuk-tuk). Lastly, at check-out they made us wait while someone went to check on our room (minibar, I presume). This is clearly a sign of mistrust, unlike most other 4 or 5-star hotels, and worst of all, an inconvenience to their valuable guests. Lisateave
