We were a bit disappointed with our stay at Turtle Bay. We had originally booked a Cottage Suite King, but got "upgraded" to a 1-bedroom Ocean Villa, which sounds much nicer than it actually was. I almost think that had we NOT been upgraded, we would have had a better experience. The good things about the villa were that it had it's own washer and dryer […] and kitchenette, and it was also very close to the beach (quite convenient). The bad things were that we ended up getting a double bed (not even a queen), we saw a big cockroach in the bathroom, and there were ants in the kitchen and bathroom. The room also wasn't as modern as we had hoped (or at least what we saw in the pictures for the Cottage Suites). The service was also not over the top like we expected at a resort. It was the same type of service you'd get at a Holiday Inn. Nothing special. Overall, we didn't have a horrible experience, but for the amount we paid, we were disappointed. There was nothing about this hotel that would make us want to come back. To end on a good note, the service at Ola and the hotel lobby were great! Lisateave

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Turtle Bay! From the minute we checked in, our comfort and satisfaction seemed to be the first and foremost concern for every member of the staff. Whether it was the slide attendants who were so kind to my son, the friendly wait staff at the restaurants, or even just employees we passed in the hallways, everyone […] was so warm and welcoming! The housekeeping staff was incredibly respectful of our privacy, but also made sure that our room was clean and tidy. I was so grateful that their attentive staff who provided such great customer service to make our stay more comfortable. I rated the convenience of the hotel location as a five, but be aware that it is remote (which we loved after having spent 5 days in Waikiki). You'll drive several miles for stores, gas stations and restaurants. The hotel location and the surrounding neighborhood make for a quiet and peaceful experience, so if that's what you're looking for then you'll love it! My husband and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2014 and are in the beginning stages of planning a trip. We've been considering some fairly distant and exotic locations, but Turtle Bay has shot to the top of our list. We've always considered ourselves Maui people, but we're sold on the North Shore - AND Turtle Bay - now!!!! Lisateave

We did have a very nice stay, 7 days in a cottage on the beach which had a beautiful lookout. However, for what we paid it was in our opinion overpriced, but as I knew before we even arrived it is the only resort location in the area and for that reason everything was expensive ! by the time you added the mandatory tax and not so mandatory tip on you […] day to day bills it made every day bills (sorry checks!!) pretty steep. There must be an employ older people policy in the hotel, if that is the case they please let them dress down a bit, 50+ and a short skirt don't work !! One thing that we found strange was even though we were paying over $500 a night we got Paper cups to drink out coffee out of in the room - maybe it a cultural thing but personally I like a real cup ! You definitely need your own transport whilst staying as there are great locations on the north shore to visit and a car makes it so much more easier and fun. All in all though we had a very pleasant stay and would consider visiting again (when I win Lotto !) Lisateave

I thought that I was going to get a lux resort vacation but not so much. Maybe next year when they finish all the updating. The pool was great but the spa was tiny and filled up with large guys who monopolized the tiny pool. Wish the staff would have been mindful to that situation. also they shut down the pool and spa at 10PM - hey I'm on vacation here! […] who goes to bed at 10PM? The area was nice and relaxed in comparison to Waikiki, so that was a plus for us. The people at the Lei Lei Bar were awesome. Golf was fun! Room was ok, a little dated but they r n the middle of reno's. All n all it was a nice stay.

The resort is between two of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. We spent one day watching a parade of whales when we weren't snorkeling. Plus there's surfing, horseback, 36 holes of golf, tennis, four pools, and two hot tubs. Every room has an ocean view and the surf lulls you to sleep.

This hotel is far both geographically and spiritually from the fast pace of Waikiki. Located on Oahu's north shore the hotel offers travelers the ability to get out of Waikiki and experience pristine and uncrowded beaches. It's a great place to chill and enjoy the real Hawaii. Much of the staff live in the surrounding small communities where the pace […] is slower. As result the service is less businesslike and more personal. Stayed here for a wedding and it was amazing sleeping to the sound of the ocean! The room was nice however they had us move due to a broken sliding glass door. They offered to comp breakfast the remaining 2 days but I'm not sure that was worth giving up the view we had for a room in a higher level. I would recommend requesting a room in the east wing […] facing the bay on a lower level. This gets you close to the water and is more private when you look out your balcony. The location is incredible! The hotel itself is VERY OLD and going trough some much needed renovations right now. Had two very loud weddings and a surf competition during our stay and we where never informed that they would take place right by our room. Very lovely facility, however, very expensive, then they added a $25/day "resort fee" for wi-fi, self park, beach towels... things other hotels provide with the cost of the room. As well, when we checked in, there was a list of things that, if we did or didn't do, our credit card would be charged. We ended a 3 week/3 island Hawaii vacation at this hotel in Jan 2013. The front desk was short staffed, but the porters were nice/helpful. Upon arriving in our west wing room, we were shocked. The price did not reflect this old, smelly, outdated room. We opened the door immediately to get some fresh air while we called the front desk. The views were […] great. The bathroom needed completely gutted, tub tiles were cracked, the grout was old and stained, cabinet doors did not close properly and the vents were rusted. The front desk showed us another room which was just as bad but did not smell. Disappointed, we asked to talk to Mgmt. He explained that they are in the middle of major renovations (which should have been posted while booking and greatly discounted - Even so I would not have stayed in those 2 rooms). There were no newly remodeled rooms available so Mgmt showed us a cottage unit that is separate from the main hotel and had been renovated 8 years ago. It was very nice and big. We were so happy for this upgrade - although for the price, it was about what I expected. The beach area is beautiful, the restaurants in the hotel were very good. The spa was in a temporary location, and not very enticing, so I did not go. Nice big pool, Plenty of parking. Close by are some good activities. It takes about an hour to get here from Honolulu. The trip ended well after our change to a new, clean room and we were happy with how Mgmt handled our issue. Lisateave

I stayed in a 3 bedroom villa with my husband, 3 boys and my sister and her daughter. The villa was in great condition and was a real treat to stay in...large and comfortable. The villa pool was perfect for my boys and the ocean view was spectacular. We were pleased with the Surfer bar for wings, pizza and a burger as the other restaurants on the property […] were very expernsive and a bit fancy for what we were looking for... Overall the experience was wonderful, however we had a lot of wind to contend with and couldn't really swim at the north shore beaches because of strong currents. We did all snorkel at turtle bay which was nice and protected and could borrow snorkel gear for an hour a day. Lisateave

We had a great time! We loved the free hour of snorkeling everyday. Staff was very friendly and no pressure to purchase things. The trails were wonderful, we saw turtles and seals. The resort also brought in entertainment several nights. Our one complaint is in February the beautiful pool was not heated and was a little cold for swimming. The room was luxurious. Everything was provided - bathrobe, slippers, shower cap, refrigerator, safe, iphone docking station, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, even an emergency sewing kit. We had visited the Polynesian Cultural Center (which I highly recmmend) and did not want to drive back to Honolulu (about an hour). There aren't a lot of choices […] of hotels at the North Shore of Oahu but this was a wonderful place to stay. We didn't arrive until after 9 p.m. and checked out around 10:00 a.m. (required check-out is 11 a.m.) so our stay was short - too short for such a great place. After we checked out, we had a late breakfast at one of the restaurants which had a great view of the ocean and the beach. The waves were unbelieivable. We then walked through the lobby and there was a walkway and display with interesting facts about the Hawaiian culture. Lisateave

We had a 6th floor room that just gave breath-taking views of the sunrise every morning. Coming from the East Coast, getting up @ 6 am local time was no problem so it was a special treat to wake up to that view every morning. This was my favorite hotel we have stayed in ever. Location location. Awesome views. Waves crashing. Staff were all super friendly and down to earth at the same time. Bed was only a seven in comfort when accompanied by the sound of the ocean at nite I slept great.

Rooms could use a major update, the hotel was expensive and you don't feel like you are in an exclusive area, as anyone from the public could walk onto the grounds, use the pool, hot tub, facilities, etc. I actually overheard someone talking about how they go there all the time as a non-resort customer and no one ever knows. Glad I am paying to be there […] :/ The beach is public which is ok, but the resort should make reserved parking in the front for hotel guests only. It was hard to find a parking spot at times. Food at the golf course was great and worth every penny, but the other restaurants were not that great and over priced. Turtle Bay was an amazing place to stay. I was pretty disapointed with our room though. We had a delux ocean view room. First off we got 2 Queen beds when we asked for a King. Our remote in our room didn't work and neither did the in room safe. My Husband had roses and a package sent for me there and called 3 times asking the it was held at the front […] desk till after check in so he could come get them and present them to me in our room. Well while I was checking in my husband went to look at the view and the receptionist gave me the flowers!! I thought they were from the Hotel, having NO idea my husband planned it!!! I felt so bad, he was so upset!! The Headboards for the bed wernt attatched so every time you moved they hit the wall, very annoying. Plus the wall paper was pealing in our room. But, as I said before, the property was gorgeous and we had a beautiful view of the pool and ocean from our room. Lisateave

Fabled clientele, surf lessons, snorkeling, horseback riding, rubbing elbows with the locals; there is something for everyone! One hour away from airport and less than 15 minutes from Polynesian Cultural Center, Waimea Falls, and beautiful surfing beaches. The room was excellent and the staff very helpful and courteous. We would like to go back to this hotel on every trip to Hawaii.

It's a very pricey resort. Especially the resort resturants. Also very dissapointed that one of the resort lounges "The Surfer" requested a $10.00 cover charge admission just to enter. Room was outdated, however we were told that they were in the process of remodeling

Beautiful location and amazing views from almost every point in the hotel. The cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful, although the rooms were not that clean. The biggest disappointment of the stay (1 week) was Christmas dinner booked at 21 Degrees North. It was a nightmare dinner~ we waited over an hour and a half for appetizers and the food […] was only Ok, not warm and we did not have dinner until 3 hours after sitting down. The staff was totally incompetent and the whole experience ruined our family Christmas dinner away. The staff tried to justify why it had happened explaining something about over booking (not neccessary for guests to know). Part of the bill was taken off, but still desserts that were to be served as part of the Christmas features menu(and paid for) were never served. Pretty poor all around. Overall very disappointing and very embarrassing as I had booked this reservation months in advance. Over all, the beautiful view and scenery were breathtaking~ but our stay at the hotel was only mediocre. Lisateave

The resort was beautiful and the villas gorgeous, but when they're already charging such exorbitant fees, is it necessary to extort from your customers financially with everything else as well? The room service should not be ordered. There is a Foodland down the road about 5 miles, much better option. The people were very nice, but just be prepared […] to pay 3-4x the norm for everything because there really isn't anything close to the resort at all. Haliewa is maybe 10-12 miles and they have nice restaurants that are much for feasible. Hawaii is not a cheap place, obviously. But I have traveled the globe and stayed in 5star everything for work and haven't paid prices so high for quality so poor... I don't think anywhere. Everything else is beautiful, gorgeous wonderful and thankfully my man and I lovvvve each other's company so very much because we went on adventures every day to save a buck (that was more me. He didn't mind. I was just astounded. I've never written a review and I just couldn't not on this one). Lisateave

Turtle bay resort is a great resort if you dont need personal service and money is no problem. Everything is very expensive plus a $25 daily resort charge.The fodd was less than adequate in fact very poor which was a great shame. Our internet was not working and the response was to get the internet provider to call me, he asked me to find the modem […] which i couldnt, only after I created a great fuss did a person come to the room and locate the modem which was behind the TV and involved moving a large piece of furntiure to identify. Great location if wanting to hang out at the North Shore beaches. Would not be nearly as exciting in Summer though when there are no waves. Not alot else to do location wise, unless you are into golfing, hiking or just hanging out by pool etc. Beautiful sunsets. Rooms are large and comfortable, although bathroom a little dated. Our room was clean, however […] for some reason the carpet in one area of the room was very wet (maybe someone stored their surfboard/wetsuit on the floor?) We had access to the pool (+ towels) the entire day after we checked-out and given access to "hospitality room" to shower and change and get ready for our red-eye flight back to the East Coast.
