Electra Palace Hotel Athens - Ateena

We stayed at Electra Palace Hotel in plaka for 3 nights. We had 3 rooms for 6 adults in April 2012 all the rooms were small and old. The elevators are claustrophobic, too small for two people with luggage. When we arrived and saw the rooms we asked if we could cancel the reservation but unfortunately for us the rooms were prepaid. We asked for balcony […] and Acropolis view but they gave us the rooms facing rundown buildings. The buffet breakfast is average for Europe. The location is good but there are other hotels in Syntagma square that are much better than Electra Palace with 5 to 10 minutes walking distance to plaka. When we complained to the front desk regarding our rooms they told us what you see online is not always what you get. Lisateave

Great Hotel, great service, great location. All the amenities you can expect from a luxury hotel in the States. About a 5 minute walk from all the major tourist attractions -- Parthenon, Olympic stadium, Temple of Zeus, etc.

We booked te Electra Palace one day before departing for our honeymoon. Upon our early morning arrival, we were immediately given an upgraded, comfortable room with a fantastic view. Complimentary wine and cheese was delivered immediately and every request was met with ease and a smile. The reception and bell staff were kind and courteous. Very nice location in close proximity to Plaka's pedestrian streets and Akropolis. Super view to Akropolis from some of the more higher priced rooms. Good service and good food.

1) air conditioning not working 2 )carpet in room was filthy! 3) room was not as advertised on internet, very small and without any view ,4) staff really did not care and said it was their last room even though it had been reserved in January. Overall I would never go back and would not recommend it to others

Well maintained property . Solid 4 star property as opposed to a five star.. Good restaurant and delicious breakfast which was included in my rate. Friendly staff particularly in the restaurant on the fifth floor. Was a little disappointed with the fitness room which was sparsely equipped and poorly ventilated.. Air conditioning was disabled in the […] rooms I was told due to the time of the year however during the day the rooms got quite hot even with the doors open. In the evenings however when the temperatures dropped it was pleasant, Gorgeous views from my room patio of the acropolis. Would recommend. Lisateave

Wifi is very expensive and not available in the lobby. The room was very small.

Hotel was in the perfect location. Very close to all the sites and the metro. The hotel is also well known, so it was easy to get hotel pickups from tours and let the cab drivers know our location. They do not have free wifi, which I thought was a little off-putting, considering the rate of the room. While I was there they were redoing the outdoor […] rooftop pool, but had another indoor pool for use. It looks like it will be quiet spectacular once completed. From what I could tell, it seemed to be one of the few hotels in the area with an outdoor pool. Breakfast was good. Coffee was amazing and they had American staples like scrambled eggs and toast. You can get breakfast delivered to your room for only 2.80EUR a person. We did this in the morning before going on an early tour. All in all, good experience. I would recommend this hotel. Lisateave

Hotel is ideally located to walk around most of the tourist sites on the city, restaurants and cafes in Plaka. The hotel staff is very courteous and helpful. some of the rooms offer view of the Acropolis. In my opinion not worth the extra money. One has to make an effort for the view and its also not the best view of the acropolis.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The staff was excellant. Free wifi in the lobby and bar. We booked the room with a balcony overlooking the Acropolis. It was definately worth the extra charge. The hotel is in the Plaka area, we walked most places and enjoyed the nearby cafes. A delicious breakfast buffet was included. Great location in the Plaka District, better than most hotels selected by our fellow pre-cruise friends. Great breakfast and helpful staff. Room was upgraded to a suite on check-in. Room 222 is large and has a great view of the Acropolis. Book it.

I asked the front desk clerk for a quiet room -- instead I was put in a (very nice) room but on the second floor, and was treated to god-awful disco music from downstairs until 2AM!

Loved the view of the Acropolis from the room balcony and rooftop pool, amazing both day and night! Located in the center of the Plaka District with its amazing restaurants. The breakfast was included which was great, but the quality could have been a better. The room was beautiful with nice bath. I would stay here again.

Thumbs-up for this great hotel. It's in good location & more importantly situated in safe area. It's centrally located close to all the must-see sights. A lot of shops & traverns close-by too. Convenient don't need to rely on public transport. The only disappointment with my stay in this hotel is there's no kettle for hot water & tea or coffee bags […] in the room. Lisateave

You can't go wrong with this hotel. Beautiful accomodations and the staff was SO accomodating. A romantic courtyard is available where you can have a nice meal and cocktail at the end of your evening. The foyer is palatial.

Recommend a superior room for view of the Acropolis and deck. Located in a desirable neighborhood, convenient to major sites. Good pool, fabulous breakfast. The only shortcoming was the superior attitude of the nearly all male staff at the front desk.

My 84 yr. old and extremely well-travelled mother and myself, a 54 yr. old single professional female, stayed for 4 nights. We had booked a triple room, and luckily didn't need the third bed because all it was was the sofa (not a sleeper) made up as a single bed. That was the only disappointment in an otherwisae flawless stay. Stayed in room 215 which […] has no view but was otherwise quiet and very well appointed. The concierge went to great llengths to help me retrieve a carryon bag I had left on a tour bus. Breasfast buffett was included and it was very good. A garden courtyard is the perfect place for nreakfast. A small ferrel white cat greeted us each morning with her charming face and polite manners. The highlight is the rooftop restaurant with delicious and adventurous food that sits beneath the nightime lights of the Acropolis. Very special. Location could not be better. Full breakfast was excellent. If I had a single criticism it would be that the beds were hard. Front desk very helpful and spoke perfect English. I would def. stay there again in Athens.

Me and my wife have spent our week-end in this hotel and it was fantastic! Real 5 star service! The view on Acropolis from our balcony was grate (6th floor, corner room). Also we recommend to spend a night in the roof-garden restaurant.

Great location and hotel, the pool on top is always amazing with its Parthenon view. The hotel employees were great in organizing transport for me whilst the taxi strike was ongoing. 2 thumbs up.

We are a family of 4 (two adults and two adult children) I chose this hotel because of the previous reviews. As rescearched the hotel is in a perfect location. It is easy walking distance to the plaka and even a pleasant walk to the Acropolis. You think its far but the walking track is easy and you are there before you know it. The hotel staff were […] really great. There was nothing to fault about this hotel and I am very particular with the cleanliness side of things. They arranged transfers to and from the airport for us and were helpful with any questions we asked. The highlight was dinner at their rooftop restaurant. It was a perfect way to end our stay. The Electra Palace Hotel was our final stop in a nearly six weeks holiday - and what a way to finish! When we arrived we were informed that we had been upgraded to a full suite with a fantastic view of the Acropolis. Everything about the hotel was excellent - the staff, the service, the suite, the decor, the food and the position. Situated in the […] heritage listed Plaka district, only a two minutes walk from Syntagma Square, the hotel was perfect for us. We headed off towards the nearby ruins of an ancient Roman Agora, but 21st century shoppers could choose anything from some high class designer label shopping near to the hotel, down to the hustle and bustle of the flea market just a few streets away. Rooftop dining, watching the Acropolis light up in its evening splendour, is an experience not to miss. The meal was excellent too. Lisateave

Best location in Athens. Decent size room. Nice breakfast. Rooftop pool and restaurant very nice. Good value.

We spent one night here on our way to Turkey and what a treat. The rooms were very large with balconies that looked out onto the Acropolis. The service was excellent and the location - just a block off The Plaka - was perfect. This will be my hotel in Athens going forward.

While the location of this hotel was ideal to reach many of the tourist sights it was a bit expensive. We did recieve a free upgrade to the jr suite. I had chosen this hotel for a 2 night stay out of our 5 nights in town mainly for the view. The balcony was very small but the view was incredible. However since in rained the nights we were there we were […] unable to take full advantage of it. The views from the roof pool and dining room were so amazing that i think we could have skipped the balcony room altogher and saved a bit of money. I was disappointed in the hot tub/pools. The roof pool was closed for the season and the hot tub was located inside the indoor pool in the basement. Although lovely it was not the hot hot hot experience we were hoping for after a long day of walking about the city. The tub was kept at a cool 80 (not the 100 needed to melt away soreness) . The hotel staff were wonderful. They opened a bottle of wine we had brought with us, and were very patient when they came to show us how to open the door to the balcony that had utterly confused us. The breakfast that was included with our room was extensive. Many european and american favorites. It was a great way to fill up before we headed out for the day. Also breakfast started early enough for us to be able to take advantage of it prior to leaving for the airport. The hotel is an easy walk to the main subway station which has a direct train to the airport. Overall it was a wonderful stay. Lisateave

The Electra Palace was a great surprise! Not only were "all" the staff polite and helpfulll, but the Hotel was in a great location, with fantastic views of Plaka and the Acropolis. The rooms, were clean and smartly attired, with all the necessary amenities. The beds were comfortable, but the plastic covers under the sheets were not pleasant in that […] they made a lot of noise when one moved. The breakfasts we had were tasty, but the selection was standard, did not offer any change and when something run out, it was not replenished, unless asked for. Overall, I would strongly recommend the Hotel and would return without any hesitation. Lisateave

i would not recommend this hotel. Althought the hotel has a great location it was not worth it. As a single woman traveling around athens I stayed in large hotels so that I would feel safe. I might as well have been invisable at this hotel. Upon check in a was not offered any assistance with my bags or information about the hotel. I struggled to my […] room with my luggage alone. My room was very small but clean. i decided to go to the pool and have a swim and lunch. After my swim I sat waiting for a waiter in the restaurant patio for about 45 minutes. As soon as a couple came and sat down they were served immediatly. I finally had to go up and order my food from a bartender. The same thing happened at breakfast,i practically had to hunt them down for a cup of coffee. The hotel is in a nice local but there is a very dark stretch of road that u have to go down in order to get to the plaka...not the nicest alone in the dark. Upon my check out I was left waiting while two men that were behind me were served..then I asked for a cab to a different hotel . My request was met with distain and a complete denial of the existance of said hotel...even though it was another major hotel a few blocks away. overall my experience at this hotel just confirmed that if i want to stay here again i should bring my husband Lisateave

When you walk in there is at least two people to help you. Everyone seem to speak English and made us fill at home. The hotel was quite and comfortable. The beds although very firm as it seamed all beds were during our trip were comfortable. Food was good and morning breakfast patio was very nice. Great location to Plaka and Acropolis.

Best location, great hotel! When ever we go back to Athen, we will stay in this hotel again. With kids it especially good because they will have connections and fun with other kids at the pool on top of the hotel after walking the historic sites or the shopping areas which are all close by

I went to Athens for 4 days / 4 nights for a wedding a friend decided to have aboard. While most wedding guests stayed 20-30 minutes outside the city, my fiancee and I wanted to stay in the city of Athens. We are very happy we stayed here. It is in the neighborhood of Plaka which is really the only place you want to be in Athens. This is the touristy […] area at the eastern/southern base of the Acropolis. I am American and have only been to Europe one other time before (Paris w/ day trip to Amsterdam 2 yrs ago). Here are some random bullet points about the stay: - All Athens buildings are old and this is the same. The inside is renovated to it looks nice as soon as you walk in the door. The rooms are small and the shower is only 5 feet high and cramped, but it gets the job done. - Cleaning service is excellent. 100 out of 100 score. - Air conditioning is sufficient. You need to insert a key card in the slot by the door for everything to work, so if you leave the room and want the air conditioning to remain on, you need a second key card. - You can flush the toilet paper in the toilet here - The staff is very nice and enthusiastic to help you with taxi transportation, directions, dinner reservations, etc. The taxis they call are honest. Didn't find a deceptive cabby, but some on street quote fixed price 3-4X the normal cost. In general Athens taxis are approx 25% cheaper than the states. - There are two computers w/ printer in the lobby and wireless access in the lobby - Buffet breakfast is included in your stay. It was a good to have. Ok but not great. Bacon is different here, not as good as in the States. Eggs aren't as good as well. Orange Juice freshly squeezed but warm and no ice. Can't complain though, because it's free and you really only want a bite to eat since you'll want to eat outside the hotel. - Indoor pool on basement floor and "fitness area" were closed - The building is 7 floors but there is an excellent outdoor pool on the 4th floor roof (part Lisateave

This hotel is close to Plaka and the Syntagma metro station. The view of the Acropolis from the roof is wonderful. There was a wide selection of food for breakfast and the staff were very nice.

The Electra Palace Hotel in the Plaka old town of Athens is deally suited for all the main tourist-type attractions. The Acropolis and old-town shopping are literally minutes from the front door. It is a really fantastic location. The hotel is very-well presented and the service was excellent. The rooms however weren't quite what I would call 5 star... […] We stayed in a standard room and it was quite small - a lot smaller than the photos on the website suggest. There is no interactive TV service which is defacto-standard in all luxury 5-star hotels these days. There were no 'tea-making' facilities, trouser-press, iron etc... again all the things you expect as standard in a 5-star hotel. Worst of all was the fact that the bed was unbelievably uncomfortable. If you like sleepling on a plank of wood, then this place is for you! To be fair the staff were great when we asked if we could get some blankets or the like to put under the sheets to make the bed more comfortable. Housekeeping were round in minutes to remake the bed... although it didn't improve the comfort level too much! The roof-top pool is small, but has a fantastic view and is a great place to relax. Just get there early-on to get a lounger as there aren't that many. The gym and basement pool are... limited, as is the spa... they do however provide robes in the rooms and towels at the pools. The food was great, and the choice at breakfast was huge. We left to return to the UK at 5am in the morning and even though the main kitchen wasn't open, they made sure that coffee and pastries were laid on - which was a nice suprise! Lisateave

If you are going to Athens as a tourist there is nothing worse than being too far from the sights, but this is not a problem with the Elektra Palace which is located at the edge of the old city, in easy walking distance from just about everything you might want to see. The welcome is efficient and friendly, the rooms, although not oversized, are well […] decorated and clean and the hotel breakfast was also of high quality. Better still, there is a roof terrace with a small swimming pool (in the summer) which gives amazing views of the Acropolis across the rooftops of the old city. Highly recommended. Lisateave
