"Not the HoJo's i thought it would be.."
I've stayed at many hotels in my travels and the Howard Johnson's in Vero Beach Florida is probably one of the worst maintained facilities I have ever stayed at. The room was dirty from the carpet to the walls. The bathroom was some what clean, but when you stood in the shower and shifted your weight, you would hear air coming out from under the shower […] tub as it was not installed properly. The shower heads didn't have the ability to get any type of pressure to take a comfortable shower. The carpeting was dirty and stained and the lamps had dust inside them as though they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Lisateave
The older man at the desk was friendly, but I was totally uncomfortable. I walked into the room and it had a smell, kinda musty. It had another door going to a room next door so I made sure that was locked and then noticed the room had a patio, that was kinda of cool till I realized that the door was unlocked and I couldn't get it locked, the front […] desk guy was able to lock it...but it wasn't very clean, and it was old, I was worried something was gonna get me in the middle of the night...but nothing seemed to bother me so I was happy. "HJ's on US1 Vero Beach"
GPS will not find this hotel. It's on US1 NOT A1A! Try an alternate search not using address (hotels) on your GPS. Got that tip from Desk Attendant who was aware of problem. KUDOS to him! But he forget to tell me that the entire area was set to have power turned off at 6:15 AM the following morning! Loss of A/C was killer!

great location, very large rooms, the pool is nice and clean and there were more extras than the more expensive hotels.

The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were clean. The people that worked there, including Manager Les were very nice to deal with. It was a very good value for the price. We'll stay there again, during our next visit to Vero Beach.

My family and I, 3 adults and 1 child, stayed five days with these folks. We did not require daily service, but when we did, they tended any need. They have courtesy deals with nearby eateries for their guests as well. It was quiet and felt safe. If I had one complaint it is the lack of a vent fan in the lavatory. The man at the desk was lovely and the location os the hotel was good in that it had stores and places to eat within walking distance BUT: Room tiny and dated. That would have been ok except at midnight I was awoken by screaming, fighting of bad elements in the neighborhood. I felt unsafe. I needed to stay in Vero Beach for about 2 weeks and at the price I got this room for it worked out well for me. The rooms were clean, the place is older but kept up adequately. The staff is nice and accommodating. The continental breakfast was bagels, toast, honey buns, coffee, juice, and cereal but some days that was all I needed. "A great bargain"
Management has indeed improved. Rooms are now very clean, and a more friendly staff. The internet connection over wifi is very fast, and now the rooms include widescreen TVs. A great bargain.
"I stay here 2 nights every year"
The motel could use some renovation, but it is a great value for the price. Every room has a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, plus free wireless Internet. The front desk staff is very nice.
"annoying incidentals"
The one annoying detail of our four days in the Howard Johnson was the clothes hanger feature which was not a normal hanger hanger that could be stolen and taken with you but one that fit into a socket if you knew how. The problem was that it was always falling out of the "catch" that held the hookless stem to the floor. It was maddening.
The map which hotels.com publishes for your hotel is not even remotely close to where you are, we were lost for over 30 minutes

"Home away from home"
I really enjoy staying here. This hotel is clean, nice beds and not too far from the beach. Has all of the amenities of home, frig, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, cable and wifi. Will stay here again!
"good for price"
close to the beach and a few restaurants, don't try to find it using a GPS you won't. It's on US 1 and otherwise easy to find.

Very convenient location, hospitality was superb!! View from the balcony was nice. The rooms are clean and plenty of comforts fridge, microwave, iron, dryer, TV close to 24hour convenience store came in handy. Staff really friendly I will stay here again. Supplied shampoo was refreshingly good as well!!

"Our 2-night stay"
First room AC not seeming to work, but they gladly switched us to another. Older hotel, but still in good condition. Complementary breakfast was good, as well as the staff & service. Convenient to restaurants & businesses. Would recommend to others.

The hotel is old, No doubt, but the room was clean and comfortable. The maid came everyday, cleaned bathroom, vacuumed, cleaned out the coffee pot and made beds. Bedding was clean and comfortable. The location cannot be beat. Right on the main strip, easy to get to shopping and the beach. We stayed for 4 days, and actually saw a pool cleaner and landscape […] service, so they do take pride in the appearance of the hotel. The price, through hotels.com could not be beat. hotel had dead bugs in it, it was obviously not cleaned in a long time. When I returned at night the room was not clean, and the bed was not made, and I had no fresh towels. The manager stated maid service was gone for the day, and the room could ot be cleaned until the next morning. Overall, the room was a good deal! The only problem I had was that when I went to make some coffee in the room, there was old and moldy coffee in the dark plastic caraff from a previous guest - gross! The housekeeping staff cleaned it thoroughly and with bleach after I alerted the desk. I couldn't bear to use it after that. Our original reservation was for 3 days, we actually showed up one day early, and expected to leave 3 days later, but decided to stay an extra few days. There was no problem to extend our stay at all. The front desk clerk was extremely friendly and easy to work with. We received excellant […] customer service from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. Our room was spic and span every day. We never had to ask for clean towels or anything for that matter, everything was there that we needed. The hotel is only a short distance to the beach with lots to eat in an around the area, you could even walk if you wanted. We will definitely stay at Howard Johnson again and again. Lisateave

"Visiting from out of town"
This is a great buy, in a great location. Restaurants everywhere, beach right around the corner and hotel is clean. Will stay again!
"Roaches!!!"
The staff at the hotel was friendly. The building is a little out of date. As I went into the room I picked up the alarm clock and saw 3 roaches running away. Will not stay there again!

"Satisfied"
I travel for work and have to pay for my own expenses, this worked for me. The neighborhood was very edgy, lots of sirens and police cars. I would stay there again if I had to travel to this part of Florida. Rates were very good compared with other places I checked.

"GREAT VALUE"
This room is in an amazing spot. Lots of stuff to do, shopping and restaurants all around. The beach very easy to get to from this location. The room decor is ok for the price. Pillows and Bed are GREAT! Pool was clean and grounds are kept very clean. I will stay here again!

"Can't Be Beat"
I've stayed at this Howard Johnson several times. It is always consistent in all aspects. The price is always very competitive with other hotels of similarity. I'd always recommend it to anyone I know.

I stay at this hotel 2 nights every year and am always pleased with the friendly service. Each room has a mini-fridge, microwave, and free wireless internet. One year I left behind a jacket in my room and they shipped it to me at their expense!

"Downtown Vero Howard Johnson's a pleasant surprise"
I booked this hotel due to it's great location and the great discounted room rate, but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was, fully stocked with everything I might need including a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and blow dryer. It had a nice balcony, a comfortable bed, great cable TV with all the channels I like to watch, and free WiFi […] that was easy to access. It had a very nice pool with lovely palms and flowering bushes around it. There was a free continental breakfast with more than you could ask for, cereal, fresh fruit, sweet rolls, bagels, juice, milk, coffee, all in a very nice setting in the lobby with free newspapers and a nice big TV to watch while you eat. When I left my key in my room one night the desk clerk was very kind and gracious (at 2 am!) when he gave me a new one. All in all, a great hotel experience, I will definitely be back! Lisateave
